MLB: July 2025

Interesting call. Obviously quite rare.

It’s also unique, as you stated, that all runners move up a base. In a ‘normal’ catcher’s interference (when the bat and mitt make contact), the batter is awarded first base, but other runners advance only in a ‘force’ situation.

The Colorado Rockies rose from the dead long enough to sweep St. Louis in three games. The Cardinals responded by designating for scapegoat assignment pitcher Eric Fedde.

Stoopit redbirdbrains!

Today’s game was a 6-0 Rockies victory. It was their first shutout of the season.

I believe our local sportstalk people said it was their first shutout in something like 228 home games. :face_with_crossed_out_eyes:

While he’s not having a stellar season, I wouldn’t mind the Cubs picking Fedde up for depth if they can stash him in the minors at the moment. See if he’s a candidate for a “change of scenery” improvement.

Seth Lugo got the win for the Royals today in Wrigley. Word is that KC is trying to shop him for some much-needed offense, but he’s in his player-option year, meaning he could become a FA if he doesn’t accept the 15 million dollar salary for 2026. He’s also 35 years old. Don’t know if anybody needs starting pitching that badly for the rest of this season. This season he’s 7-5 with a 2.95 ERA. He could certainly help a contender.

Guards have won 11 of their last 13 after a 10 game losing streak. Tigers lost 7 of their last 8 I think?

We’re still 8 games behind Detroit and I don’t see us winning the Central but we do have the “easiest” schedule of second half in all of baseball. We definitely have a shot at a wild card slot.

I have no idea if this team could work its way through the playoffs. Our run differential is -34.

The front office is going to have a real hard time at the trade deadline. Gonna be a lot of “is this team good…?” questioning going on.

ETA: Sorry @LSLGuy didn’t mean to make this a reply to you. My bad.

Actually, Detroit has lost 9 of their last 10.

If any team has a shot of catching the Tigers, it’s Cleveland. Unless something drastic happens, KC and Minnesota aren’t going to sniff the playoffs this season.

Ohtani, 5th straight game with an HR.

The Yankees are currently playing the sloppiest baseball I’ve ever seen. 4 errors tonight leading to multiple runs.

And it’s starting…

Arizona traded 1B Josh Naylor to Seattle for two pitching prospects.

The Mariners’ biggest problem this season has been a lack of talent at first base, so getting a player who was an All-Star last year is a huge upgrade.

I’d love to see Suarez come back to Seattle. I was not happy when he left. He’s probably the shiniest apple that teams are reaching for right now, so I doubt it’ll happen, but I’d really like to see it.

Not a blockbuster trade but the Mets add a much needed lefty arm in the bullpen.

Ryan McMahon escapes Colorado. Its not the sexiest move for the Yankees but it does improve the team. McMahon has had a down year but he is on the Rockies after all. The team has been struggling defensively and this improves them there. He has some bad numbers this year offensively but it’s still better than what they have.

Since RBI became official in 1920, only one MLB player has had, over the course of his entire career (same game or not):

A game with 4+ HR
A game with 5+ XBH
A game with 6+ hits
A game with 6+ runs
A game with 8+ RBI

That player is Nick Kurtz of the Athletics, and he did that tonight against the Astros.

And he’s a rookie.

Either he is destined for Great Things, or his career peaked very early.

We’ll see which it is, but I certainly wish him all success.

I’ve commented before that the nature of scoring in baseball is akin to bowling. Offense that comes in tight clumps yields a much higher score than the same total offense spread throughout the game.

A batter gifted with loaded bases in front of him who can then hit deep racks up some impressive numbers for the team and for himself. And if that happens in multiple innings? Wow.

Amazing day by Kurtz. The perfect storm of hot hitter and terrible pitching.

The fourth home-run coming off an outfielder cheapens it bit, though.

Aaron Judge has an elbow problem, and if it leads to Tommy John surgery, the Yankees should switch gears and sell before the deadline. Dealing Bellinger, Devin Williams, Luke Weaver and Trent Grisham could bring significant talent to the Bronx.

Yeah, I listened to Locked on Athletics this morning just to hear them talk about the game. Saw most of it myself online, much more entertaining than the White Sox shellacking of the Cubs
