They’re pissed he’s a mere rookie doing this stuff. and we just need to get Swindell and Graves’ lawns. BTW, Henderson had planned to slide when he set the run record, the fact it was on a HR is what made the sliding weird.
What you are missing is that Swindell and Graves are low-rent pig fuckers.
If anything ever makes me stop watching baseball, it’ll be these unwritten rules–the ones where grown men decide they get to hurt you if you disagree with them.
Pretty funny from a sport that gets so rah rah about veterans and flags and America.
ETA: Kinda priceless that Puig is from Cuba. Let’s show him what freedom is all about by beaning him for not being like us!
My thought, whenever somebody gets upset about somebody else’s over-exuberant celebration, is “well, if you hadn’t let him ‘beat’ you, he wouldn’t have had anything to celebrate about. So sit down and shut up.”
Well, the road trip from hell is certainly living up to its billing so far for the Cards. Now all they have to do is get swept in a double-header tomorrow and be out of first place! The total of 4 runs scored over 4 days has been a nice touch, I’ll admit.
Well, the Reds scored what, three runs in three games playing the Dodgers? The Cards being swept by the Braves was a prime opportunity to make up ground and hey couldn’t do it. So I guess…you’re welcome?
Sorry man, but being on the other side of that series was fun. We’re still a little bitter about that whole infield fly thing from last October.
Hell, I’m still bitter about that and I hate both teams!
The Dodgers have signed former Giant Brian Wilson. Reports have yet to state whether he has shaved or not.
Seriously, though, it’s hard for me to get terribly excited about signing a former Giant, given our recent history with the likes of Jason Schmidt, the record-setting Eugenio Velez, and the first two years of Juan Uribe. However, I recognize that Wilson could wind up being a tremendous contributor down the stretch. We’ll hope for the best!
The cool thing about unwritten rules is you can just make them up as you go along.
Seriously, someone show me, somewhere, where anyone prior to now has talked about the “unwritten rule” that says “you can’t slide into home plate as part of the celebration of a game-winning home run.” Really, show me ONE example. Or make a logical case for it. People have been hoisted off the field, jumped onto the plate with both feet, thrown their helmets in the air, and done pretty much anything else you can think of. Why is sliding wrong?
Well, the answer is that it’s not. If you don’t want Puig celebrating a walk off home run, don’t pitch incompetently.
I understand they signed him to a Minor League deal…I suppose that’s simply because he hasn’t pitched since April of 2012, and they have no idea whether or not he really has anything left in his arm.
I’m hoping he’s still good enough to be a Major League pitcher, but not quite good enough to do it ***well ***
Tigers pick up a pair of Joses-- Veras and Iglesias.
As a Tiger fan, I’m happy with these picks. Veras will be great as a set-up for Benoit. Iglesias was needed to replace Jhonny Peralta as his suspension (likely) becomes official this week. I suspect Peralta has played his last game in a Tiger uniform, though. Who needs the old man when you’ve got a young buck with actual defensive range and potential at the plate? Plus, I don’t think Illitch will appreciate bullshit like doping during a year he has put so much dough on the line for a World Series.
I’m not so happy about losing Iglesias, unless Bogaerts is ready to come up right now (and maybe he is). His hitting has been more what has been expected of him recently, so he may never be more than a slick glove long-term. But he was still a good price to pay to get Peavy, especially if Boston can sign him long term. They obviously came to realize they weren’t getting past the Rays’ pitching in the playoffs even with Buchholz back.
Hurts to lose Garcia though( and in the division too:( ). But there are only so many AAA OF you need on a win-now built team
Pretty happy that the Astros got someone to take the current closer off of their hands. Veras has been reasonably effective, but on a 50-60 win team, reasonably effective 32-year-old relievers are not really where you need to be. I wish they could have gotten a pitching prospect instead, as the system is very deep in position player prospects but not so much in pitchers.
dodgers get a walk-off win against the Yankees! What a great month for the Blue. Let’s hope the August thread is just as kind to us.
The Reds scored more than one run in a game for the first time since last thursday last night in a 4-2 loss to the woeful Padres. Pirates sweep the Cardinals to take first place in the division and now have the best record in baseball (what year is this anyway?!?!!?).
And this weekend the Cardinals come to the Nati to play the Reds in a series.
It was a rowdy crowd there last night. I forget how many Yankees fans come out of the woodworks in LA. Still, everyone got to witness a really good game.
My only regret is that I didn’t get to see Mariano pitch one last time in person. But given what that probably would have meant about the status of the game, I’m not too disappointed.
Well the Tigers are really padding their runs scored-runs allowed stat against the NL. Winning that is equally import as winning the World Series right?
Well, the Royals traded another top prospect away in a futile effort to make the margin of not making the playoffs just a little slimmer. Kyle Smith to the Astros for Justin Maxwell. We don’t need a RF - we need a 2B. And in a few years, we’ll need an SP to take Smith’s place. (We’ll probably trade away Adalberto or Bubba for Mike Montgomery when that time comes…)
