MLB: July

Hay, lookit that! The Giants won a game!
And made Yasiel Puig look positively human while doing so…

Oh yeah. I guess they have to talk about basketball to fill space until they can start talking about the NFL draft. If only there were a summer sport to fill the gap between the NBA Finals and the start of the NFL season. Oh, wait …

They’re looking good to break .500, and I don’t just mean the wins: the team is better than they have been the past couple years. I think they need to pick up some bench help, and maybe some help for RF before the deadline, to help their push for the post-season.

Nats are closing the gap with the Braves!

For the first time in ten years, the Royals have two players selected to the All-Star squad. For one year, at least, the Royals are not that embarrassing team that only has an All-Star because every team has to be represented.

The last place Dodgers are now in second, having climbed over the Rockies and kicked the Giants back down where they belong. Mattingly said his strategy is just to win every series, not every game. It seems to be working so far. Now we’re off to Arizona to see if we can gain some ground on the D-bags.

That’s all I want as well: 82 wins. Get this monkey off of our back and then worry about a pennant race.

I was just looking at the AL team, and the first thought that crossed my mind was, “Wow, this is the most Yankee-free All-Star team I’ve seen in years!”

Mattingly is a joke. What kind of strategy is that? I get the idea of winning two out of every three is good, and don’t that the rest of the season will be enough to get them in the playoffs, but 1) that’s the goal of every manager for every series and 2) to actually state that this is your goal is embarrassing.

. Agreed.

The Pirates have 4 for the first time since the 90’s

Reds, Reds, Reds…you cannot win by relying on the long ball all the time. Your pitchers are staking you 2,3, 4 run games. You actually have to SCORE to win!

Jesus. Worst team in MLB with RISP and yet they hang on above .500. It cannot last.

Am I the only left-coaster watching the Giants leave 837 people on base as they head to the 14th?

And we start Tuesday morning with the bottom of the 15th…

Well, as you know…you’re not.

After 15 2/3 innings, the go-ahead run scores on an error…

<sigh>

Bah!

I’m going to bed.

Yeah, the RISP average will come up. They’ll stay above .500. They’re not “hanging on,” they’re well above .500 and in a wild card slot.

Maybe. Meanwhile, they keep losing 2-0 games like tonight because they can’t hit. And, Derrick Robinson was safe for the inside the park homerun, too. Stupid lack of review.

My word, the Giants are floundering.

Tell me Robinson wasn’t safe…watch the last angle at the end of the video. You can see his hand touch home before the tag touches him. Why can’t this kind of play be reviewed? It’s such a shame.

All of you who predicted that at this point in the season the Cubs, Mets, Rockies, and Padres would ALL be ahead of the defending World Champion Giants in the standings, raise your hands–
