MLB: July

Eternal game equals Reds win! Damn that thing took FOREVER.

Aaaaaaaannnd, that makes it 13-0.

Swear to any diety you like, this conversation happened today between me and a coworker:
Coworker: So what do you think, can Puig keep it up, is he for real?
Me: yeah, I think we’re good, as long as he doesn’t run into a wall.

OK, I’m not superstitious about anything except baseball. I accept full responsibility. :smack:

Get a rope.

Hey, the Giants manage to avoid a loss today!

The rain got the Reds brooms all wet!

Red Sox now up 4.5 in the division.

So how about that Raul Ibanez? 41 years old, with 21 home runs before the All-Star break (with a few days left to get a couple more). And he only needs 9 more HRs to break the record for most HRs by a 41-year-old player.

And as far as the All-Star game, I don’t seen any Mariners getting voted in, but since they have to have at least one representative …Iwakuma? Best ERA and WHIP amongst AL starters. And dammit, Ibanez should be there.

<sigh>

Stupid Mariners and stupid Aaron Harang. How in the world the Reds hitters didn’t catch up with this washed up tub of goo is beyond me. That hateful tirade aside, Harang was a great Red and is by all accounts a good guy.

Dammit though! His straight line 90mph fastball should have been feast for the famine!

I know, is’t it awesome

I also kinda liked Eric Wedge’s decision to put two rookies with less than 6 weeks Major League experience between them in the 1-2 spots.

Announcers during the game mentioned that the last Reds pitcher to beat the Mariners in interleague play was … Aaron Harang.

BTW, does ESPN Radio ever stop talking about basketball?

And that’s the only win the Reds have against the Mariners all time. We are now 1-9 against them. Chances are good today’s game will be rained out. Good grief, we’ve had more rain in the Cincinnati area this Summer than I can ever remember.

At least we know what to do with the “extra” outfielder. I have a feeling Kemp and Crawford will be platooning until at least the break. After that, we’ll see.

Okay, that’s what I thought I heard the announcer say, but I wasn’t sure and I didn’t feel like looking it up. But the Mariners have done surprisingly well in interleague play over the years.

Ah well. you guys probably deserve it after we stole Griffey from you, but to be fair, you got to have all his good years.

Still trying to wrap my head around the fact that at this point, the Pittsburgh Pirates have the best record in the majors. This MIGHT be the year they finally have a winning record after 20 consecutive seasons of losing records.

Something I’ve never seen before in the Giants-Dodgers game this afternoon…

With one out and a man on third in the bottom of the first, Buster Posey hit a double down the right field line. Giants lead 1-0.

But wait…the official lineup card listed Pablo Sandoval batting 3rd, and Posey 4th. That’s “batting out of order” for those of you keeping score at home…

So Posey’s at-bat doesn’t count, the runner goes back to 3rd, and Sandoval is ruled out (Catcher unassisted on the scorecard). Posey then takes ‘his’ at-bat, and flies out to right to end the inning.

The Giants have now moved beyond “not hitting, pitching, or fielding”, and are now apparently scouring the rulebook looking for new ways to lose…

On the topic of “What the fuck happened to Josh Hamilton?”, the Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo wrote today (behind a paywall, sorry) that there’s word going around it’s related to him trying to kick his smokeless tobacco habit. His recent flashes of resurgence may be due to his starting to dip again. Oh well, let’s let the guy have *one *substance problem, okay?

Which still doesn’t account for Albert Pujols.

No. Football, too. Sigh.
