John Riggleman resigned as the Nationals manager today, despite having won 11 of the past 12 games.
Sucks to see him go, but I can sort of understand his position.

I agree. Phil Wood pointed out that if they won’t talk about the contract when you’ve won 11 of 12, they weren’t going to resign you anyway.
This timing just sucks. It was fun that they were on an actual hot streak.
Two managers in the same diviosn simply quitting mid season. How truly bizarre. How often do you hear of a manager resigning midseason, and now it happens twice in quick succession?
Tell Georgia Frontiere or Al Davis.
Surely we aren’t referring to either one of them as being sane, are we?
Bring back ol’ Leatherpants!
Word. [Del]If MLB[/del] *When *MLB sells the team, here is hoping for sane ownership. Mark Cuban has already said he doesn’t want to touch that mess with a 10 foot poll, so that’s out. But there has to be someone who wants the team. Right? Anyone? It’s the Dodgers for crying out loud.
Maybe that Russian guy who’s bringing the Nets to Brooklyn wants to do the same to the Dodgers.
Jesus, I’ll buy them. Do I even need any money? It’s the frickin’ DODGERS. Their attendance has dropped off significantly this year and it’s still excellent, and once McCourt is gone it’ll jump back up to 3.5 million plus. You can make money off the Dodgers with even the most basic of business acumen. Surely to God a bank would drool at the possibility of loading into a Dodgers purchase.
Clearly you don’t. You just need the ability to shuffle debt around.
The last story I read had Cuban saying that he was very concerned about all the trouble the Dodgers are in, but that he wouldn’t rule it out if a reasonable way could be found to right the financial ship. So I’m not sure he’s completely out of the hunt.
I wonder if Barry Bonds has given any thought to team ownership…
I think you and I read the same article (or read articles sourced from the same interviews.) I took away from it that Cuban wants an MLB team, but that the Dodgers aren’t on his list anymore. Have you (or anyone else) heard anything about the former players who were putting together an investment group? Hershiser, Garvey and a couple of others I think.
I keep dreaming that Mark Cuban will buy the Mets. I know it won’t happen - I know - but hope springs eternal and as a Mets fan, what else do I have to hope for?
I’ve heard no news about that in quite some time. On last week’s Monday Night Baseball on ESPN, the announcers made reference to the fact that Hershieser was involved in that effort, but I don’t think there’s much that can be done until the team is official up for sale, so I guess I’m not really expecting any update in that regard.
But boy would that be a good move from a PR perspective.
I don’t recall seeing the Yankees play the Rockies before. I’m looking forward to seeing Tulowitski.
A one-armed fan just leaned over a railing and caught a foul ball in his hat! You don’t see THAT every day.
They showed the Giambi Grand Slam in the pre-game. The ball sails just over my head in the shot. I’m the guy in the green jacket.
Argh! The Cano double play just hurt.
I’m watching on MLB.tv so, unfortunately, I don’t get the pre-game.
You don’t see a guycatch a foul in his beer every day, either.
With the price of beer at ballparks being what it is, I’m not sure that was a good exchange.
