MLB: June 2011

I would like to take a moment to point out how under appreciated Clayton Kershaw is as a pitcher. He is leading the MLB in strike outs as of last night’s shut out and has a 3.01 ERA, 2.89 xFIP and a 1.06 WHIP

That may not be the best in baseball, but that’s stupid good.

Oh, and it seems that if you go by Game Score he has 2 of the top 5 pitching performances this season.. I hope he can keep it up. With Halliday in the league I don’t know that he has a shot at the Cy Young, but it would be nice to see him nationally recognized in some way. The Dodgers could use the boost as an organization if nothing else.

Yeah, he’s a helluva pitcher. I’d like to have seen a Kershaw-Verlander duel, though.

That would have been ideal. It wasn’t really fair to send Penny against him. I fully expect LA to get crushed by the Tigers in the next couple of games.

Wow, are the Astros ever terrible, though Wandy Rodriguez is in the top 10 in the league in ERA, which should help when they trade him for some magic beans in July or August.

Please don’t say that – I’m going to tonight’s game. Please let me hold on to my delusions for a few more hours.

Also, you forgot to mention Kershaw’s .303 BA.

(And yeah – you’re in when I buy the team.)

Although, to his credit, Penny pitched pretty good. Penny’s been kinda weird. He’s on point and pitching like a boss for a handful of games, and then the wheels come off hard for a couple. Has he always been like this, Marlins, Cardinals, and Dodger fans?
…Now all we have to do is institute the DH rule in the National League and we’ll have better baseball.

But he TOTALLY looked like Good Fausto up until then. I was convinced we were going to win going away last night. Usually, Bad Fausto seems shaky from the beginning, doesn’t he?

sigh

Ooh. Yeah, Scherzer is pitching tonight. I predict 115 pitches by the 6th inning and about a dozen strikeouts.

As a Cards fan it’s hard to say. He was pretty good, and then got hurt, and then was gone.

Silence, heretic.

Beckett’s effort last week was just a great pitching performance. By far the best that I’ve watched this season. To have TWO of Kershaw’s outings rated above that by James is extremely impressive.

I knew I’d get a nibble on my comment. It’s better baseball. I don’t want to see pitchers hitting.

It may be better something, but it sure ain’t baseball.

Yes it is.

I don’t want to see Prince Fielder run, we should institute a designated runner for the fat guys too.:stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah you usually don’t see both sides in one game like that.

BUT! Our hitting is coming back around and our bullpen is still tight, so I’ll take it!

Now, if only the Dodgers can keep a hold on the Tigers while we sort ourselves out…

Manny Acta should have done like Leyland did with Brad Penny last week and pulled his ass in the 5th after he walked in that run. Short leash.

Well, as I said, I’m going to the game tonight. It’s kind of unusual and amusing for me to have the double motivation to root against the Tigers tonight! I’m not complaining, though.

I hope Johnny Cueto pitches the game of his life tonight. The Reds need wins and it doesn’t matter whom its against.

I won’t be able to watch the Yanks pound him because MLB considers Cincinnati a local market for Charlotte. It’s only 480 miles away. Grrrrrr.
