MLB: June 2011

Your condescension is duly noted.

In Cincinnati, Johnny Cueto pounds YOU!

Not in the rain, I guess. :frowning:

I wouldn’t want to be pounded in my Cincinnati by anyone, really. Not that Johnny Cueto isn’t a nice guy and all that.

Would you have thought just a few years ago that you would be watching an interleague game and actually caring about the results?!

Well, I certainly wouldn’t have cared about the impact on the AL.

That’s right, you are a Tribe fan now too. Well, enjoy the game tonight. Get a Dodger dog for me, and hope that whatever has been wrong with Billingsly has been corrected and whatever has been wrong with Scherzer has gotten worse.

Holy christ. Giants down 8-0 after 1/3 inning…

Joe

You may be onto something.

Lending more weight to the designated runner idea, David Ortiz stole a base tonight. I don’t want to see a clip.

Enjoyed the game, but skipped the Dodger Dog.

Billingsley had to fight it a bit tonight, but he got enough. And for once, the bullpen looked really solid. It was nice to see Kuo back on the mound tonight and pitching well. And even though the stats won’t reflect it, Kemp hit the ball very hard every single time he was up. Kemp is in the 20-20 club after only 75 games. There was also some stellar defense on the field, including a great bare-handed grab by Dee Gordon.

A fun effort to watch overall by the Dodgers tonight. It’s hard to get excited about a three-game win streak when you’re still reeling from the five-game losing streak and you’re still sitting well below the .500 mark, but I’ll take it.

The Dodgers are currently 3-4 in games I’ve attended this season. Next game is July 5th.

Bah. There is no more glorious baseball clip than Bengie Moline getting a cycle by legging out a triple.

They better be cheap. Mccourt did a good job giving all their assets away. Reportedly the team will owe a $21 million annual lease obligation to a McCourt entity for the club’s use of the parking lots surrounding Dodger Stadium and any ticket revenue in excess of the $6-7 million per year will service McCourt debt" More on that at http://www.dodgerdivorce.com/ This is why (along with many other things Mccourt did like keeping his entire family on the payroll), if I’m a player, I’d never agree to a percentage of revenue without a full open audit of team’s books.

The commissioner did good in stopping this contract from going through, but they take significant blame in letting Mccourt buy a team in the first place. Mccourt used zero of his own money in the purchase. He traded in some parking lots and made a dodger’s subsidiary borrow the rest.
If they were more concerned with owners who could afford their purchases rather than getting yes men this wouldn’t have happened.

Keith Law linked to this blog in his twitter feed the other day. It gives the most detailed explanation of exactly how Frank McCourt has fucked the Dodgers that I have seen and why everyone in baseball should care, not just Dodger fans.

What makes me particularly mad is that I don’t think there is any way to get Dodger Stadium or the Parking lots out of Frank’s control even if the team is sold since the team doesn’t own any of those assets anymore. This may result in the Dodgers having to move to a new stadium eventually since part of what is bankrupting them is the need to pay rent just to play baseball games at home.

We should start up a collection to get you to more games. By July it might be too late to save the season.

On the one hand, I’m questioning your logic considering the team doesn’t even play .500 ball when I’m around.

On the other hand, if you’re going to get me into more games, I’m not really going to fight you. If you’re looking for suggestions, I still haven’t gotten to sit in the Dugout seats.

The Giants are imploding. Their hitting has been spectacularly awful all year, and now they have a historically bad starting pitching performance (first 8 batters hit safely). Probably a fluke; Bumgarner has been good but unlucky all year. But their pathetic offense is no fluke.

And yet, it’s still an improvement. Sad isn’t it? Hard to believe the Dodgers were in the NLCS just 2 seasons ago.

It’s been more than unlucky. If he was playing on a team with a better defense behind him he would be in better shape. The Giants need nothing short of lights out pitching to win right now which is hard to get. They have been getting it more often than not though. I know I am not all that objective, but I see the Giants easily falling to where the Dodgers are in any starting pitcher gets hurt at this point. The whole NL west is a mess.

The best thing that’s happened to the Giants all year was an injury to a starting pitcher: Vogelsong is a huge upgrade over Barry Zito. But I wouldn’t count on the Giants getting that lucky again.

True. I was thinking more if Cain, Lincecum or Sanchez gets hurt. I don’t know where the heck Vogelsong came from, but my fantasy team thanks him.

Doubleheader between Reds/Yanks today and tonight due to last night’s rainout.

Mike Leake has been the Reds best starter since he stole some t-shirts from a Macy’s store downtown, got sent down and came back up. He’ll pitch in the day game starting in a few minutes.

C’mon Reds! We NEED both of these games to keep pace with the Brewers and Cards!
