MLB: June 2022

With two outs. No. It was ducking stupid.

Throw 3 pitches just out of the strike zone and try to get the batter to bite.

There is essentially no situation you can possibly construct in which this makes sense.

weird days fot the dodgers

I know it’s college baseball, but FSU won’t have a Martin coaching for the first time in 42 years.

Cubs vs Yankees is one reason I’ll always support interleague play

Didn’t think the FSU brass had the balls, but it was the right call. Meat was just an extension of his dad’s term - same coaching and recruiting issues. At least now the next guy (rumor is FSU is going after Link Jarrett hard) won’t have to be “the guy that followed the legend”.

The underlying issue is that FSU needs to invest significant $$$s into its baseball program and I’m not sure those $$$s exist. We’re still chasing football glory we’ll never get back to.

Agreed and there’s also basketball which has been strong. FSU got hurt badly with the cancellation of the 2020 NCAA tournament. That team could have won it all.

Washington Nationals kicking ass tonight against the Brewers. That wasn’t on my bingo card.

13 innings and counting for Yanks Cubs

An interesting article on ESPN as to whether LaRussa’s intentional walk of Trea Turner was the worst in history.

Whatever mojo the Brewers had for the first two months of the season, it’s gone right now. That’s seven losses in a row (and nine out of their last 10), and they’ve fallen behind the Cardinals for the NL Central lead.

Jays (.596 winning percentage) and Rays (.586) are both playing great baseball. Sucks for them to be in the same division as the Yanks, who are playing at a .724 clip.

They are respectively the 3rd and 4th best AL teams. As 2022 is the year of 3 wildcard teams, currently Yanks would have a bye and Jays, Rays & Red Sox would all be wild card teams.

So if season ended today it would be Yanks & Astros getting the bye.
Twins host Red Sox & Jays host Rays.

Wild Card series is best of 3.
Division series is best of 5. Best Division winner draws the winner of the 2 wildcard match. 2nd best Division winner draws winner of the 3 Div winner vs weakest wildcard team.

League and World Series are still best of 7.

All the wild card games will be played Oct 7-10 (Fri to Mon). All 3 games are played in the higher seeds stadium.

Division series run from Tuesday the 11th to Tuesday the 18th. Game 1,2 & 5 in the higher seed’s stadium.

League Series games run from Wednesday the 19th to Friday Oct 28th.

World Series runs Sunday October 30th to Monday November 7th.
Anyone know who gets home field advantage this year?

I found the tiebreakers:

  • 1. Head-to-Head record
  • 2. Intradivisional Record
  • 3. Interdivision Record
  • 4. Last Half of Intraleague Games
  • 5. Last Half of Intraleague Games plus one (continues until the tie is broken)

But for every Yankees-Cubs you have to swallow Tigers-Marlins, Rays-Reds, Angels-Pirates and so on. The purpose of interleague play was to give us Yankees-Mets, Dodgers-Angels, Cubs-White Sox, and Giants-As. For that we have vastly diluted league schedules and each team visiting each out of division league city once per year.

The first interleague game I saw live was the then Anaheim Angels vs Colorado Rockies in 1998, so definitely not a hot ticket. And, those in the LA/Orange County area had plenty of chances to see the Rockies play the nearby Dodgers and Padres.

But, it was still a great time and it was different than seeing the A’s vs Angels yet again.

Yanks have 6 hits but 5 solo home runs. Baseball is a weird game.

5th inning 5-0 over the Cubs

Make that 6 homers all solos.

Watching the game here at a bar near Wrigley, some very deflated Cubs fans now.

The Los Angeles Angels vs the Mets game just got a lot more interesting.
