Update: The Reds can still beat the Cubs. I think the Reds have now beaten them at Wrigley 12 or 13 straight times, which I believe is the current best MLB streak for that.
Puig is listed ‘day to day’, with a shoulder strain, almost certainly incurred during the fight. Suspensions scheduled to be announced sometime today as I understand it.
He’s just lucky he still has a nose. He would have had to drop the “I” out of his name and everything.
Cliff Lee rumors about going to my Cardinals? I mean, we’re pretty damn good right now, but with Garcia done and Westbrook out for a month…I don’t hate it.
Where’d you hear that? Westbrook is back and due to pitch tomorrow, and it’s a tough question whom to send to the minors and/or the bullpen to make room for him.
My brother who still lives there says it’s been local talk. Having just had a what-was-I-thinking-using-my-damn-brother-as-an-SDMB-cite, I was thankfully able to find an article with Joe McBrayer talking about it.
The Cardinals aren’t allowed by my laws to get any help!
And the Reds finally bit the bullet at Wrigley, losing 6-5 to the AAA team known as the Cubs in 15 innings. Stupid Reds.
The Reds are quickest team to rebound from getting pounded by the Cards of any. All teams are so happy to see the Card series behind them that they bounce into a 4 game winning streak. Funny how that happens.
What is scary to me, regards the Cards, is that they almost seem to give the home teams one game of the series so their fans won’t become too despondent and refuse to attend the next time the Cards come to town.
I think the Cards have the team to beat this year.
CB Bucknor at it again as he calls Seth Smith out on strikes…problem being that it was only strike two. He’s battling Angel Hernandez for the worst ump in MLB:
While Bucknor is a bad ump, this didn’t affect the game and he obviously didn’t actually send Smith back to the dugout. I’ve seen good umps do this, it happens.
What Hernandez did is a thousand times worse. Or, for that matter, the inexplicable failure of FOUR umps in the Astros-Angels game to enforce a simple rule about pitching changes.
You’re right…Bucknor is just bad. Angel is much worse, so I retract the ‘battling for worst ump’ remark. Hernandez is in a class of his own.
The Cardinals entered the weekend with the top record in the majors. The Marlins entered with the worst. As of right now, the Cards are the only team over .600, the Marlins the only ones under .300. The teams are playing each other.
The Marlins look like they’ll take 2 out of 3…
Carlos ‘Chokes the Clown’ Marmol does it again…he entered the game against the Mets ahead 3-0, then proceeded to give up four runs to lose the game, 4-3.
The Jays swept the Rangers this weekend.
According to the announcers this is the first time the Rangers have EVER been swept at home in a four-game series. I find that amazing, actually. For a team to go 40+ years, some of them pretty miserable, and never once have that happen to them? I wouldn’t have believed it possible.
I saw that Byrd homered to lead off the ninth, checked who was pitching, said, “Oh, Marmol! The Mets are going to win!” and was not at all shocked when that turned out to be the case. <sigh>
Well, it took two starts, but it was great to see Wang get the win and pitch well.
Dodgers manage to not lose today!!!
Josh Hamilton dropped to 7th in the order, responds with 2 strikeouts. I so want to see if God’s will for him is to bat 9th!
I bet he’s doing coke again.
