The Dodgers end the month by going 3-1 against the Phillies, with Puig setting the team record for hits by a rookie in a month. The D-Backs are losing all over the place, so LA has risen to only 4 games back.

The Dodgers stand to really benefit from being in a bad division. After another win today (8 of the last 9) and another Arizona loss, the Dodgers are still in last place, but are only four games out of first. And now, their next four series leading right up to the All-Star Break just happen to be against the other four teams in the division. Should be quite the interesting couple of weeks here in the NL West.

Oh, and Yasiel Puig, that bum, only managed a paltry 4-5 today AND failed to hit a home run in his last at-bat, which would have given him the cycle. I keep wondering why the team doesn’t just release him…

I understand what you’re saying, but it is still very concerning. It isn’t a random trial, that you can expect to even out over time. They have two glaring weeknesses, relief pitching and defense, that will continue to hurt them in close games. I don’t know how look up stats by games where winning run scored in first six innings, vs games where winning run scored 7+ inning, but I am sure they have a vast split that is a legitimate function of how they play.

Their main relief pitching weakness is gone.

That’s the thing; specific, glaring weaknesses can be solved. General weakneses cannot.

Hey, thanks. It’s DAMN hard being a fan of a team that went to three straight NLCS, then goes on to give you 20 years of ulcers. I find that, in general, you root for or against teams, and not cities. The Steelers are a lot different than the Pirates, obviously. BTW, used to be you could be a little more proud to be a Steeler fan. We’d look around the league at felons and wonder how the teams could keep them on the roster. In the old days of Art Rooney Sr., Roethlisberger would’ve been lucky to stay on the team after his first newsworthy problem, and would NOT have lasted past the 2nd. Now, winning takes precedence over being a decent person with half a brain. Sad.

Sorry to hear about the Reds. Not a lot, you know, but some. I have a fondness for regional rivalries, and Cinci isn’t that far down the interstate.

Oh, and BUCS WIN AGAIN! officially half way point, and they are 21 games over .500, and have the best record in baseball. 9 game winning streak.

I am just excited to talk about Pirate baseball for the first time in two decades. You can talk about whatever you want, I’m not a mod nor do I play one on TV. I was just trying to get focus off the Steelers and on the Pirates.

Ok, Pirates go to 21 games over 500 wearing the last uniform worn by Roberto Clemente, who wore, you guessed it, 21. Is this the season the stars finally align? Or are we in for another epic collapse? Perish the thought! The Bucs are going to get that 82nd win and then who knows? The sky is the limit!
