Singled again his fifth time up.
5 for 5 with three homers, that’s a pretty good week he had tonight.

The Yanks held on for the 7-6 win and Hughes got his first W of the year. He struggled early and settled down some. I’m not sure what his problem is. His velocity isn’t bad. His curve isn’t hitting spots though.
The Astros suck, but on the other hand, the only two players that can be remotely described as “young” and “promising” (Jose Altuve and J. D. Martinez) are playing great. Altuve, in particular, could be the next great Astro if he can either (1) get his walk rate up to “sub-par” or (2) keep hitting in the mid-.300s.
Looks like they had a pretty cool ceremony at Fenway today, celebrating its 100th Anniversary.
(And the Yankees are doing their best to ruin it…)
I just want to state, for the record, that I think it’s fairly pointless to have All-Star balloting begin two weeks into the season.
I’m sort of enjoying the throwback uniforms the teams are wearing. But not as much as I’m enjoying the idea that they’ll be celebrating the Fenway Centennial in the most fitting fashion: with the Sox losing to the Yankees, who are are up 6-2 in the top of the seventh. Of course I really shouldn’t say that- it’s more or less an ironclad law of the universe that a Yanks-Sox game has to include at least one dramatic rally in the last few innings. Meanwhile Alex Rodriguez hit his 631st career home run and is now alone in fifth place on the all-time list.
5 solo shots by the Yanks is petty unusual.
Toronto turned a triple play against the Royals today.
I was the Blue Jays’ first triple play since 1979, and also the first time the Royals had hit into a triple play since 1979, according to the KC announcers.
Kemp and Ethier have the second-highest number of RBIs through 14 games in MLB history. Kemp, following his two-run shot tonight, has 20, and Ethier, who singled home a run tonight, has 19. The record is 41, so they missed it by a couple. Ted Lilly continues to be surprisingly effective, and the Dodgers took Game 1 from Houston, 3-1.
The Indians also managed to squeeze out a win tonight against Oakland despite Ubaldo Jimenez continuing to look like someone other than Ubaldo Jimenez. Despite giving up only two runs, he threw 107 pitches in six innings, including five walks. It’s starting to look like 2010 Ubaldo isn’t coming back, so the Indians are gonna need to get him a lot of run support. Four was enough, tonight.
And here I thought that the only ironclad law of the universe where Yankees- Red Sox games were concerned was that they had to be at least three and a quarter hours long…
Time for me to have a true baseball experience: I’m going to the Cubs/Reds tomorrow at Wrigley and sitting in the bleachers!
Jesus Christ, the Giants are like the Keystone fucking Kops defensively…

As a Dodger fan, it made me smile to see Aubrey Huff play 2B.
Bad news out of the Bronx, as Michael Pineda suffered a rehab setback with shoulder pain. The quote “not sure how much he’ll contribute in 2012” was used.
Phil Humber has a [del]no-no[/del] perfecto going through six against the M’s.
I wonder who the first base ump is ?
Got it! Congrats to Humber!
He’s done it! Philip Humber has pitched the 21st perfect game in MLB history!
That was a controversial ending to the perfect game. 3-2 count, way outside, and it looked to me like Ryan checked his swing.
I thought so, too, when it was live. Then the replay looked to me like he swung, but they never showed a replay from the first base line. So I’m reserving judgment.
