MLB: May 2017

Chapman has allowed 16 baserunners, and five of them were in one game. In 13 games, he has allowed more than one baserunner in just 3 and has allowed no runs in 11 out of those 13.

He had a terrible outing against the Cubs, but so? Last year he had a game in June where he gave up two home runs in one inning (against the Twins, to add insult to injury.) Everyone has a bad game now and then.

The Mets suspended Matt Harvey for three games for failing to show up for a game. And why did he go missing? Because he saw news stories about his ex, Adriana Lima, going out with her boyfriend before him, Julian Edelman, so Harvey went on a drinking spree till 4 AM.

I’m amused by the current stats of the last guy in the Astros bullpen, 30-year-old second-year guy (I think maybe still technically a rookie but he had 22 innings last year) James Hoyt. 4 appearances, 5 2/3 innings pitched, 21 batters faced, 3 hits, 1 walk, 17 outs recorded, 13 of them by strikeout for a 20.65 K/9. Won’t last but funny while it does.

The Giants scored 4 in the 9th today, then held on to win 6-5 over the Mets.

The last time the Giants won a game in which they trailed after 8 innings was May 10, 2015.

May 10 shall henceforth be known as “Comeback Day”.

My Dodgers are in gear, closing in on the NL West. I’ve vowed not to talk trash about the Giants unless they are closer than double digits in Games Behind. Doesn’t seem sporting, dontcha know. I may not get a chance to talk trash about the Giants all season, under my self-imposed gag rule. I just wish I could figure out who our numbers 2-5 (or is it six, now) are in our rotation. Also, Toles just tore up his knee and is out for the year, and I feel really badly about that. There is a lot to like about him as a player. Hope he comes back good as new.

Very well done…

Thanks, I thought you might ‘appreciate’ it. Hoping your guys will heat up, I love the rivalry and the Snakes and Rockies just don’t feel real.

Was Familia also “closing” that one?

Speaking of comebacks, how 'bout DEM NATS yesterday against the Orioles?

It was great.

Of course I’m a Yankees fan

I’m pretty sure yesterday’s comeback from 7-3 was the only Blue Jays come back of significant note this season. It’s hard to come back from a 4-run deficit when you don’t even average 4 runs a game.

I am all for enthusiasm and it was nice to see the Jays celebrate after Goins drove in the winning run, but I was rather bemused by Mike Wilner’s radio call on the Fan590; his tone of voice is what I’d expect if Goins’s hit had won a playoff series, rather than win a May game for a last place team.

Man, the Rockies are really pinning my Dodgers’ ears back…

I’ve had the Pirates/Diamondbacks game on in one corner of my monitor while i work, following Zack Greinke’s no-hit bid. He lost it in the eighth, to a home run.

In Minor League news, the Mets organization has considered moving Tebow up to AA ball, but will apparently wait another month or more. His slash line is a not-completely-embarrassing .250/.330/.370 after getting off to a sluggish start.

Hoyt update, vs. Yankees allowed 3 hits, 1 run, but struck out 3 so now 80 percent of his outs recorded are by strikeout and a 21.62 k/9.

The Giants and the Reds are heading to the 17th inning. I’d really like to go to bed…but they won’t let me.

I’m watching too.

Pretty tense stuff. No scoring since the fifth.

Edit: Wow. helluva play at third.

Edit: But not such a good one by Span in center.

Damn…Reds lose with a walkoff by Posey. Hopefully they can wrap the series today but the starter they’re trotting out hasn’t pitched in the bigs for three years. Can’t wait for the Redleggers to get a couple starters back from injury.

Well, I’m glad to report the Jays are now officially on a one-game streak of noone going on the DL!!!
Gotta hand it to them winning eight of their last twelve, which isn’t spectacular, but neither is it too shabby for a team in the straights they’re in. Over half their payroll - $83 million (Happ, Sanchez, Liriano, Tulowitzki, Donaldson, and Martin) - is currently on the DL list, so any victories they’re getting these days are pretty awesome. Nice to see Gibby joking around a little more and having players stick bubble-gum balls on his ballcap.
(Not that there isn’t mass injuries elsewhere - apparently the Mariners have four injured starters.)
