MLB: May 2025

There was a lot made of Soto coming back to the Bronx. Soto who? A one year guy who won nothing. He will not be remembered.

He helped get the Yanks to a World Series as the other half of the best Yankee tandem since Mantle and Maris.

He’ll be a little remembered I think.

He has more world series rings than Judge. Let’s not be stupid, Soto is a tremendous player.

Soto is a great hitter, no doubt, but at this point I’m okay that we didn’t re-sign him. I don’t think he’ll age that well and the second half of that monster contract might not be pretty. Spreading the Soto money around, the Yanks have much deeper and better balanced offense than last season. Oh yeah, and Max Fried.

Yankees fans shouldn’t be such dicks, either. Soto should have been cheered the first time up. He doesn’t owe us anything, and without him we almost certainly don’t win a pennant last year. My only regret is Cashman not finding another way to rent Soto without giving up King. What a rotation it could have been: Cole, Fried, King, Rodon and Gil.

Truer words were never spoken. [present company excepted]

These long term contracts are meant to get value and win in the front end, anyway. ALL of them.

Booing? Turning their backs? That’s pretty tame. You buy your ticket you buy the opportunity to express yourself. When someone gives years to a team then has to move on they are usually given a warm welcome. I’ve seen standing ovations for returning players. The circumstances warrant the disdain. He doesn’t owe them anything. They don’t owe him respect for leaving the way he did.

Not that it means anything but Judge is currently credited with 3.8 WAR by BBRef. His team has played 44 games so at this rate he’d hit 14 WAR on the nose.

That would be the best season by a position player since Babe Ruth - and Ruth’s record is 14.1.

Shohei Ohtani’s having another amazing year too - he leads MLB in home runs and has scored more runs than he has played games - and Judge is still WAY better. What a delight they are to watch.

What are you talking about? Disdain? It was a one year deal, everyone knew that going in.

You really need it spelled out to you?

The Baltimore Orioles have fired manager Brandon Hyde.

And Ohtani being in NL means he and Judge won’t obstruct each other for MVP awards year after year as was the case before.

I do. It’s not like Soto did anything offensive to deserve disdain, unless simply not resigning with the Yankees is by definition offensive.

The Orioles’ front office: “We’ve tried nothing, and none of it works!”

Judge went 0 for 5 today including making the final out as the Yanks lost 3-2 to the Mets. :frowning:

The Brewers are really scuffling of late. As of tonight, they are 5-10 for the month of May, and in six of those 10 losses, they were shut out.

It’s genuinely a remarkable and shocking disappointment.

Angels beat the Dodgers last night and are up 9-7 now. Nice to have an interesting west coast game for a night cap.

The real shocker yesterday was the Rockies won.

The latest update on Oswaldo Cabrera (3b): Surgery to repair fractures left ankle and ligament damage. Not expected back this season. I really feel sorry for the kid, he was having a hell of a year, his opportunity may have just slipped away.

At least DJ LeMahieu, came back swinging the day Cabrera went on the IL.
