MLB: May

7-1 final. Ouch baby, very ouch. I had hoped the Reds would not only play better than they have on the road, but play well on the road against a decent team. No dice. So I still don’t know where this Reds team stands. Beating up on shitty teams and just getting into the playoffs like last season just isn’t going to do it for me. It’s a very similar situation to the Bengals, actually, and it’s extremely frustrating. Get somewhere in the playoffs/against good teams already!

Dammit.

Come now. That’s not even close, since it involved only one runner. The Brooklyn Dodgers once ended up with three men on third.

Jays suck.

And, the correct answer turns out to be: until 3:14 a.m. on May 31. Did you stay up for it?

Jon Miller’s words, not mine. But OK, “Worst Individual Performance by a Baserunner in a Starring Role”, then.

Losing 4 of 4 to the Mets is hard to take but at least the reinforcements are coming off the DL for the Yanks. Teix & Youkalis tonight and Andy Pettitte Monday.

Any guesses who will contact the Yanks about Lyle Overbay? I’m guessing someone will come for either him or Hafner at this point.

Thudlow Boink:

I was physically incapable of keeping my eyes open (and remember, for me, that’s 4:14 AM). But the umpires must have felt serious pity on the Royals and their fans to keep the game alive through a rain that long. Thanks, men in blue.

I’ll be at the Sunday night Yankees-Sox game with a friend. I don’t think I’ve been to a Yanks-Sox game before and I’m pretty sure I’ve never watched a game from the bleachers either, so that should be great. With luck the Yanks won’t put anyone else on the DL between now and then.

Ha ha, “lowly” Pirates and Wandy Rodriguez! Take THAT!

I think Rodriguez’s parents both work for the TSA to come up with such a name for him.

Forget demotion to Single A. Brandon League must die.

Here’s a weird record for everyone. Domonic Brown took over the NL lead in homers last night with his 12th in the month of May (15th overall), and he drew nary a walk during the entire month. First player ever to have over 10 home runs in a month and not draw a single base on balls. His triple slash line for May was .303/.303/.688. Interestingly enough, his strikeout percentage has actually dropped from his career average. So its not like he’s up at the plate swinging at every pitch thrown his way.

Jays suck worse.
