MLB: October 2017 — Welcome to the Postseason

But if the game is close, he could burn through the bullpen.

If the lead is huge, it would probably be Garcia and/or Monty asked to eat 3-4 innings each. Warren is also reasonable though of course, especially for 2 innings.

I’m worried that he might pull the old “start Romine at catcher, use Sanchez at DH. Then late in the came pinch hit for Romine and burn the DH” routine. It could bite him in the ass if the game goes long and he runs out of pitchers/pinch hitters.

I still feel like we’re carrying 1 pitcher too many. Either Monty or Garcia should be watching and not on the roster and the bench could be one more deep. I would lean towards Clint Frazier but another utility player would also make sense. As it is a 4 man bench with one really only a DH/PH and another as the backup catcher leaves very little flexibility. Our next PH is CC and while he can hit another pitcher would have to run for him.

I think he’ll avoid the start Romine trick with only 2 games left. If we’re lucky enough to face the Dodgers in the World Series, he might pull it at home for 1 game again.

That was Game 6 of the 1977 World Series, and Reggie Jackson became the first person after Babe Ruth to hit 3 HRs in a Series game. I was 16 and it was an awesome power display. The Yankees won the Series, 4 games to 2.

3 HRs in a World Series game:

And in 2012, the Detroit Tigers were heavy favorites over the San Francisco Giants. And yet the Giants swept the Tigers. This gives me hope, for the Yankees or the Astros!

I say that as a Giants fan. But, damn, the Dodgers look so strong.

Da Bums!

MLB Network is stating breaking news: Dusty Baker and his staff will NOT return in 2018.

Memo to Dave Dombrowski: Get on the phone, quick! Dusty’s your man!

Dodgers pitching was ferocious!

Obviously, it will have a different outcome when they face the offense of the Astros.

“Baker’s replacement will be the club’s fourth manager since 2013.”

Still, I think it’s a good move. Winning the NL East this year was no great managerial feat; in fact, with the talent in their lineup, they should’ve won 105 games. Dusty relied overly on the poorer pitchers in the bullpen, even in the NLDS, when much better arms were available.

Not sure if the Nats org will be willing to shell out the bucks for a top level mgr tho.

The Series oughtta be good regardless of who their opponent is. The Yankees have been arguably as good as any team since August. They’ve gelled at the right time.

Kershaw said he hoped the ACLS went 7 and that game 7 went 37 innings. At least he got half of his wish, so far. Let’s see what tomorrow brings.

Get some rest Dodgers.

The Astros are coming!

To whoever wins Game 7 tonight: win strong, win proud, win with a lot of momentum that you can carry into the next round against…

… yeah, dose guys, dem bums!
By midnight tonight, I’ll not only be an SF Giants fan, I’ll also be either an Astros fan or a a Yankees fan!

I hope to add you to the Yankees Fans. Only fair we use to share a city and even a stadium. The only 2 dugout World Series ever.

Chris Bosio and Dave Righetti are no longer pitching coaches for the Cubs and Giants, respectively.

Arguably except of course for the Astros who were 21-8 v. the Yankees 20-9 since August and have a better W-L record in the post season. Oh and Cleveland who was 26 and 4 after August and only one game worse in the post season.

They do have a better post August record than any in the National League though.

Haven’t you already had enough disappointment this year?

Ahem. 1944, St. Louis Browns vs. St. Louis Cardinals.

Well this looks bad

But it’s not over till it’s over as Yogi says
