MLB: October 2017 — Welcome to the Postseason

We’re finally getting the Greg Bird that we thought we were. Hope his injury-prone days are behind him.

Boy, was Robertson on a short leash, or what? Let a guy get on base and he’s out of there. Chapman still hasn’t convinced me that he’s back, the 9th was a little too close for comfort. Good job by Judge to keep the Yankees alive. Being 6’-7" does help when you’re going over the fence to rob a home run.

I don’t know why but I have this weird feeling that Cleveland and Houston wrap it up today.

L.A. might end up sweeping Arizona, contrary to my earlier gut feeling. It would see that the Dodgers of July and August have reappeared, and that’s not good news for the rest of the league.

That’s right - Sale and Verlander are both now pitching in relief.

Holy crap, THAT was a game.

Disappointing, but the Astros are simply better than the Sox. Now just someone beat the Yankees.

Chris Berman should never be allowed near a mic during a baseball game again. I was driving home from work and ESPN was the only way to hear the game. He’d be blathering away telling some story and you’d hear the pitch in the background. He’d quickly mumble “In for a strike.” Or “Bounced wide of first.” And go back to the story. Didn’t give the count. Just terrible.

God, is Ron Darling always this shitty of an analyst? He sounds like a 7 year old who jumped behind the mic when his father went to the bathroom

I had the exact same reaction sometime on Saturday when I went on a food run during a game. I swear he did not used to be so terrible to listen to.

I’ve NEVER liked Berman. He’s always struck me as a guy who was trying way too hard to be funny, and too hard to be “edgy” and “original” to be effective and entertaining.

I have a lot of sympathy for him because of his wife’s death, but he was unbearable way before that.

So, the Nats went out of their way mid-season to pick up three quality relievers to shore up their sagging bullpen. So… who does Dusty put in in the late innings of a crucial playoff game tied 1-1? Sammy Solis and Oliver Perez!!!(neither being one of the above-mentioned quality relievers…)

AND… he failed to pinch hit Adam Lind for Jayson Werth with two out in the ninth. … Lind being a left-handed homer threat and Werth being a weak-hitting righty against the Cubs’ right-handed closer …

It’s hard enough to win in the postseason without having to overcome managerial incompetence.

jaycat, Dusty has been a, well, less than competent manager for many years. You just noticed?

Of course you’re right. Maybe I’ve been in denial. Sometimes I wonder if we weren’t better off with the Senators all those years… at least you didn’t have to worry about it…

Hoping the Yanks can hold onto a 5 nothing lead.

I feel awful for Urshela. He’s amazing with the glove normally. Having five unearned runs hung on you has got to hurt. (Not that I’m expecting you to have any sympathy.)

Still plenty of time for the Tribe’s offense to wake up, though.

5 to 3 is not at all comfortable

How about now?

Still not comfortable. It’s never enough with Cleveland.

Come on you worthless snakes.

I am rooting for Arizona because they are playing the Dodgers, because I don’t want the Dodgers to be well rested for the Cubs series, and most importantly because if the Cubs game tomorrow is played in the afternoon, it will perfectly set up my day of day drinking, with the Cubs game leading seamlessly into the US-trinidad and Tobago match.

But in the time it took me to type that the fuckers went ahead. Grrr.

Cleveland has been known to score 4 runs in an inning.

I thought Yankees - Indians could go the full 5. And Jaycat, I still have a weird feeling the Nats - Cubs will also go the full five. Teams are pretty evenly matched this year. It’ll come down to managing the late innings.
