It was pretty clear last year that Gray wasn’t the answer. That’s what made the Stanton trade frustrating; the goal should have been Gerritt Cole. Just like last year, the rotation is just too shaky to go all the way, barring a small miracle.
Some guy hit for the cycle last night but the homer was off back-up catcher Austin Romine. Does that even count?
Not giving up on the Yankee dream. Sometimes the ball doesn’t bounce your way and the other team strings together hits at the right time. I don’t trust Severino any more. He can be as good as anyone, or he can stink the place out. You just never know. Maybe the bats wake up tonight and maybe CC can find some magic, then get a satisfying win at Fenway.
Hernandez wound up with three overturned calls last night…the third one was obviously wrong in real time, no need for super slo-mo…and he is behind the plate tonight.
Here’s the weird thing, ask baseball fans the names of the worst 2 umpires and most will say Angel Hernandez and Joe West. How do they keep getting post-season gigs?
Porcello vs. Sabathia tonight. Porcello’s been solid against the Yanks this year, but his postseason history is not great and he did throw 15 pitches in Game 1. Don’t think that will have much of an impact. Sabathia was good against the Sox earlier this year in one start I saw. I imagine there will be a quick hook tonight if he gets in any trouble, though. Betances, Britton and Chapman didn’t have to throw last night since the game was out of hand early, so that’s in the Yankees’ favor.
I’m reading all over that this was the worst post-season loss ever for the Yankees. But nowhere can I find the worst loss ever. I realize only the Yankees matter to many people, but I’d like to know.
I remember the “Roooogggeerrrr” game against Pedro Martinez. I think the Sox won something like 13-3 at Fenway. But the Yankees won the series like 4-1
