MLB Playoffs

We’ve had two in 140+ years. Go Phils! :smiling_face_with_tear:

People should focus on the positive. Think of all the joy the Yankees have brought other fan bases. Nothing is quite as satisfying as eliminating the hated Bombers and their obnoxious fans. Since the 2009 WS title, they’ve given that happiness to Houston (four times), Detroit (twice), Boston (twice), Tampa Bay and Texas.

If the Yankees never win, all that joy would be lost.

Sure there have been 27 championships but only 5 while I’ve been alive and old enough to care. I don’t really remember the 1923 season.

You’ve suffered, for sure.

For me I have 7. 1977 & 1978; 1996, 1998,1999 & 2000 then 2009.

If it makes you feel any better I’m also a New York Giants fan and I watched the entire game today.

I certainly remember 77 and 78. I clearly remember things like the home run by Chambliss and Bucky Dent. I wasn’t old enough or into it enough to really be a fan. I did enjoy going to games. I suppose I didn’t develop an early fandom because my father had his heart broken when the Dodgers moved and he never pushed it.

I watched it, too. Are the Giants really that bad? I mean, I saw their record but I wasn’t expecting that.

They are worse than bad. They are really boring. It’s a slog watching them play.

[my correction as noted by OP]

Gee that’s so bad. You do realize there are 15 teams in the American League so once out of 15 years is exactly what it “should” be. Now 6 teams make the playoffs so any one team should be in the playoffs 2 years out of five. More precisely, since going to 3 divisions thirty years ago, the playoffs have been 4 teams per league (1995-2011 = 17 times) 5 teams per league (2012-2019, 2021 = 9 times) 6 teams (2022-2024 = 3 times) and 8 teams per league (2020) So there have been 30 pennant winners and 139 playoff appearances for 438 team-years (14 teams before Houston moved). The Yankees have 30 team years or 6.85% of them. They should have won 2.05 pennants and been in the playoffs 9.5 times. They have won 5 World Series and 8 pennants and been in the playoffs 25 times. I don’t feel sorry for Yankee fans in the slightest.

Dodgers have taken a 6-1 lead over Mets.

Mets got 2 back, 6-3.

Dodgers win.

Ohtani v Judge. MVP vs MVP. Might be the highest-TV-rated Series in decades.

And it’s Yankees vs Dodgers in the World Series.

I live in LA County. Yankees in 5.

As a Dodgers fan who grew up in New York during the 70s and 80s, I’ve been waiting a long time for these two teams to meet again. Don’t really care how it turns out, just so happy to see them face each other again. Plus, it will serve as a nice distraction from the upcoming election.

Electing new commissioner already?!?

What if…

The 2004 Red Sox rally hero (Dave Roberts) who started the 0-3 comeback against the Yankees, goes down 0-3 in this WS series, gets Dodgers to rally back and win the series after being down three?

That happens, you’ll get a ticket in NYC for drawing Dave Roberts on a napkin.

Given the choice, I might prefer that to a Dodgers win, and that’s saying something.

I’m actually rooting for Yanks in this one.

GSC is on fire, Ohtani is not… yet.

Either way, I’ll welcome a current hometown win for D’s, but would love to see the billion $ bubble burst. :sunglasses:

well now everyones stopped snatching defeat from the jaws of victory … go dodgers !

Interestingly enough, four teams (including the Yankees and Mets) had a higher payroll than the Dodgers this year.

Probably because nearly all of Ohtani’s pay is being deferred until far down the road. IIRC, he is actually only being paid $2 million per year by the Dodgers for the near future.
