MLB Playoffs

And just like that, Reddick leaves the building! He just needed my prodding. Happiest man alive right now is Coco Crisp, who made an atrocious fielding blunder that almost cost us the game.

Is the game on TV? I can’t find it.

It’s on the MLB Network.

Thanks!

Well Don Kelly earned that roster spot

Nats post the first postseason win by a DC MLB club since the first year of FDRs Presidency.

It’s kind of odd watching the Yankees in the playoffs without having Rivera out there in the pen. They broke it open in their half of the 9th tonight, but when it was 2 - 2 in the 8th I would have liked to see #42 warming up. C.C. has pitched a great game tonight.

I’m saddened but not really surprised at the Giants.

Their pitching has ranged from shaky to awful for a while now. Part of that was obscured by a run-suppressing park, and part by memories of years past.

They ranked dead last in MLB in home runs. Again… partially the park. But they were 13 home runs behind the second to last place team. And they managed to make the top 10 in 2010, in the same park.

Yeah, and it was a scary one. I looked like Gio was going to have a full on melt down and then everyone just kind of settled down.

I missed the early innings since we are on vacation and the game took a backseat to playing with the kid in the water, but I caught the 6th inning on. Didn’t find out until later about Gio’s 7 walks - amazed he held the Cards to two runs, given that. sounds like the second inning could have been a disaster, but he limited the damage. He said afterwards that the cold was making it hard for him to hold the ball well.

And Matheus in the bottom of the 7th - was that amazing or what? I just wanted to hide my head - I figured the Cards couldn’t help but get a run or two - but the force at the plate and the DP grounder turned bases loaded and no outs into a goose egg on the scoreboard. And then our guys took full advantage of the error on Morse’s grounder, Clippard and Storen shut them down, and now we’re up 1-0. Sweet.

I’m in Aghanistan, so the game started at 11.30 pm for me. I went to bed early and then got up to listen to it (bandwidth not good enough for video). The 2nd inning was tough to listen to, but so was the 8th. I’ve just lost all confidence in Clippard, but the Nats pulled it out.

I heard the description of Werth’s catch and I was able to find it online later, that was awesome.

If Zimmermann can have a good outing tomorrow, I’m starting to believe the Nats can win this thing.

Conflicted? Hardly. I love the Nats and hate the Orioles with a passion.

Werth’s catch was a beaut - kept us in the game.

Clippard clearly isn’t the same pitcher he was during the summer. He earned his demotion from closer to setup man. He seems to be doing better in that role than in his last few outings as closer, though. But I still have to wonder why they didn’t leave Matheus in to pitch the 8th, he only threw 2 pitches in the 7th, after all. But it worked out OK, and that’s the main thing.

However today’s game goes, yesterday was an important win for the Nats. They not only proved they could win in the postseason, but they won a game that would have been easy to lose. They kept it close when the Cards had abundant opportunities to break it open, came from behind, then closed them down. There’s nothing like winning a game when the fates seem to be conspiring against you to get a team to believe in itself. This isn’t a team with a lot of outward swagger, but they’ll have it inside themselves when they walk onto the field the next couple of games.

Yeah, the only conflicted Nats fans I know are the ones who can’t decide if they want to string up the owner of the Orioles with barbwire or a piano wire.

If you get shut out, it’s never the fault of the pitching that you lost. They didn’t just get shut out, they got two-hit.

The game was kept close until the eighth.

I’m feeling a bit worried that the Cardinals are gonna use up all of their offense on this game. It seems they’ve done this frequently this season. I wouldn’t be surprised to see an offensive slump after a performance like this.

Bronson Arroyo pitched an amazing game last night as the Reds trounced the Giants 9-0 to take the 2-0 series lead heading back to Cincinnati tomorrow night for game 3. Great American Ballpark is going to be ROCKING tomorrow night!

So proud of the Reds. They have played really well.

Ichiro just scored on a crazy play in the first inning. Trying to score from first on a Cano double, the relay beat him in plenty of time, but it was up the line a bit and he avoided the catcher’s tag twice while somehow getting the plate.

Really an odd play in a fairly odd inning.

That play must have really excited the TBS cameraman, because he just gave us all a super close-up of Ichiro’s crotch for about five seconds.

Wtf, TBS?
