MLB: Post-season

Tigers eliminated - wow, hard to fathom, they have such a good team.

Go Royals!
Go Orioles!
Go Cardinals!
GO GIANTS!!!

Well, Trout has woken up.

1-0 Angels.

“It’s just a flesh wound.”

Sorry, after 2002 I can’t cheer for the Angels.

No need to apologize. I don’t like them either.

I can’t cheer for anything connected with Orange County, for the most part.

Bases-clearing triple.

Go Royals!

And Wilson given the hook by Scoscia.

2/3rds of an inning. That’s about as quick a hook as you’ll see.

And a first-inning pitching change–something you don’t see very often these days.

I think you’d see it more often these days than ever.

Which is still pretty darned rare.

And now a second-inning pitching change.

Hector Santiago.

It’s an admittedly small sample size, but I was looking through my old scorecards from the seventies a few months back and noticed a number of pitchers being pulled in the first, because of ineffectiveness not because of injury. It struck me I hadn’t seen that in a while, and while I’m sure it happened later in the 2014 season I didn’t notice it. I attributed it to the existence of long relievers on the staff–I saw a number of guys pitch 4, 5, or even 6 innings in relief in a nine-inning game back then, too, and that’s pretty rare these days.

But it’s quite possible that I’m wrong. The plural of anecdote and all…

Two-run homer for Hosmer.

5-1 KC.

Third inning, third pitching change for the Angels.

I’ve lost count. Is this the Angels’ fourth pitcher?

Yep.

I guess there’s no point in Scioscia holding back anything, because there’s no tomorrow if they don’t stop bleeding now.

ETA: Angels deploy Pitcher #5 in the fourth inning as KC piles more on. At this rate the Royals are going to win the series five games to nothing.

Fifth pitcher now. This is getting ridiculous.

Lorenzo Cain is pretty damn good out there in center field.

That was two great back to back plays in center.

Pitcher number 6 for the Angels.

We’ve just started the bottom of the 5th, and the game is already over two hours old.
