MLB: Post-season

Sounds like Mr. Pearce needs to take lessons from Mr. Pence.

Tigers falling apart here.

I can’t decide if this is good hitting or bad pitching/defense.

I guess the closer isn’t getting a save tonight.

The bullpen is going to be the death of Detroit. You cannot make mistakes against Baltimore they will destroy you.

I just started watching, but my vote goes to ‘bad pitching’.

This is awesome. I just hope they save some runs for the next few games.

The commentators also just answered a question i was wondering about: This is apparently still a Save situation for Zach Britton, even though the Birds now lead by 7 runs.

With this 8th-inning explosion, though, i wonder if Showalter might just pull Britton to save him in case he’s needed tomorrow.

Edit: The commentators just noted that there’s no-one warming up for Baltimore.

Yeah, the Detroit bullpen have thrown up a few meatballs this inning.

It’s official. I’ll never truly understand the save stat.

It’s all about when you come into the game.

It’s still a stupid stat, but it’s comprehensible.

I’m not rooting for Detroit, but they are playing embarrassingly badly right now.

Tommy Hunter up in the Orioles bullpen.

Good move to save Britton in case they need him tomorrow.

These are the innings where I give up keeping score because I simply can’t figure out how to deal with 10+ batters.

If when you come into the game the potential tying run is on base, at bat, or on deck–which was the situation when Britton came in–and you go ahead and finish the game without giving up the lead, it’s a save. They wouldn’t penalize Britton for having his team put the game out of reach between times.

Of course, no save as they replaced Britton with Hunter. Which is the right move IMHO–save your closer for tomorrow.

Not if he puts everyone on base.

That wasn’t meant to be an exhaustive list of when you get a save btw–just the part of the rule that applies to the situation tonight.

Yeah, if Hunter’s going to pitch like that, i hope they only bring him in in situations where they have a nine-run lead.

One down, two to go.

Let’s Go O’s!

It’s only one game, but it sure is better to be up one than down one…

Where is everyone? Anyone watching the KC/LAA game?

Tight one at the moment.

Gotta rest up for tomorrow…

Small ball don’t work if you can’t get anyone on base. KC’s pitching keeping them in this one.

Trying to stay up, and I’m working from home tomorrow so I have a little more leeway… but starting to fade. Can only last so long when I’m used to passing out an hour ago most nights. Fascinating game so far, though. I’m rooting for the Royals in this series despite how I feel about Yost.

(Random aside: my Taiwanese-born wife is excited about Wei-Yin Chen’s start tomorrow even though she normally kind of hates baseball… so go O’s!)

That’s one advantage of living on the west coast during the playoffs; it’s only 8.20 here.
