MLB: Post-season

No. I started a job today from 6-9 ET, and missed the Orioles. So out of a snit fit, I’m not going to watch this one either. :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow, Aoki almost screwed that up, but ended up making a really nice catch.

We went to a movie. What’d we miss?

More free baseball!

Nothing too spectacular, except some good pitching performances and some nice fielding by the KC outfielder Aoki.

Now we get free baseball. 2-2 going to the 10th.

Just got home, and need to go to bed soon. Damn KC for always making things interesting!

OK, I’ve turned it on.

This Gore guy is ridiculously fast. That stolen base in the play-in game was so stolen, it should have counted for 2.

KC home run by Moustakas.

Go Royals!

Gah. Our DVR decided that it needed to change channels to record things on non-existent channels, so we missed the homer. Stupid technology.

Game 1 over. Royals up 1-0. Excellent.

Looking forward to tomorrow.

Bummer. It was nice hearing the Anaheim crowd go quiet.

I’m off to bed now. The Orioles game starts at 9.00 a.m. my time, and i want to try and get to the gym before it starts.

It’s been a good week to be from KC. Monday Night Football, Wild Card game on Tuesday, ALDS Game 1 on Thursday, ALDS Game 1 on Friday, American Royal BBQ championship on Friday.

Then tomorrow I’m headed up to the ND/Stanford game, then Sunday I fly into KC for Game 3! I friggin’ can’t wait. I just need to not catch pneumonia at the ND game.

Munch, don’t forget the NASCAR races at Kansas Speedway this weekend (if you’re into that sort of thing).

Something interesting I read this morning… KC closer Greg Holland flew in from NC yesterday after his wife had a baby. He got to the stadium about halfway through the game and pitched the last half-inning for the save. You can’t make stuff like this up!

For my money, today is the best day of baseball every year for the somewhat neutral observer. Day playoff games and 12 straight hours of meaningful baseball, usually with at least a couple of teams that are interesting even if you’re not rooting for them, are Good Things.

Kinda like the first day of March Madness.

Go Giants! Today’s game is critical, because I think we have zero chance in Game 2 with Tim Hudson on the mound. Don’t wanna come home down 0-2.

Oh ye of little faith…

Fox Sports Go doesn’t support my cable provider, so I’m stuck ‘watching’ the game today on mlb.com. I suppose I could hope for extra innings, so that the game doesn’t end until after I get off work at 4:00…but I’m not sure I’m ready for that much Torture! right about now.

I suppose Hudson could be this year’s Barry Zito: worthless regular season pitcher becomes post-season hero. Don’t want to go to that karmic well too often, though.

Hudson wasn’t that bad at all. He was 9-13 but the Giants didn’t score for him. His personal numbers are fairly average.

He had a dreadful September which jacked his ERA up from 2.90 to 3.57, which is why he seems worse than he probably is. More than half of that is due to one awful start agains the Dodgers on September 13. Even pitching that badly in September he probably did not cost the Giants more than one game; in his last four starts, all losses for him, the Giants only scored two runs, combined. He was giving up a lot of runs but they were gonna lose anyway.

If the runs were a result of his being hurt I don’t think he would be starting; it’s as likely to be a fluke as anything else. especially when you consider than in five September starts he only gave up two homers and four walks. What that suggests is that the batted balls were just falling in all month. That happens sometimes and doesn’t really mean a lot. I’d be way more concerned if he was suddenly giving up gopher balls or walked everyone, both signs of fatigue or injury.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Do you have an MLB.com subscription? If you do, it is really easy to get around the blackout rules if you want to watch full coverage online. I’ve been watching all the postseason games on my computer through my MLB subscription, even though i’m in the United States.

What you need is a proxy server or a DNS service that makes it look like your computer is overseas. Free proxies work in theory, but most of them are slow and unreliable. Paid services are better.

I use Unlocator, a DNS service. All you need to do is create an account (email plus password), then change the preferred DNS servers on your computer or device (a 30-second process). If you change the DNS on your router, you can then use any device in your house. Once it’s set up, you just use the internet as normal.

Not only does Unlocator work, but they offer a free one-week trial, with no credit card required. You can sign up today and see the whole Division Series for free. If you want to keep watching after that, you can keep the service for just under 5 bucks a month.

None of this is illegal. I have no connection with Unlocator except as a customer.
