MLB: Postseason 2015

Well, that’s just one of those things that when it works, you’re a genius. But if it didn’t work, you’d be saying, “seriously, you ran because he throws sidearm!?!”

That goes without saying. Also, the situation - up 3 games to 1 - made the risk-reward ratio worthwhile.

It’s not just a question of whether Hosmer beats the throw or not. If he doesn’t run, there are two outs and a runner on third. The substantial majority of the time, Gordon makes an out and KC doesn’t score. If Hosmer scores more than ~ 30% of the time, it’s the right gamble.

And with only one out?? If Hosmer were to be deked off of 3rd he would’ve been out #2, a stupid mistake. I’m repeating myself.

There was already one out. Perez is going to be out at first (unless Hosmer goes too early and is thrown out instead). So it is going to be two outs and Hosmer on third not one out and Hosmer at third if he does nothing. This is not the same situation as trying to score from second on a single where you definitely don’t want to make the first or second out at home.

Yes I know and then out #2 would be Hosmer in a pickle between 3rd and home - stupid running on his part. Out #2 would not be Perez at 1st, 5-3. See post #692.

Really, Hosmer got lucky, very lucky.

If wright tried to fake the throw and back door I think Hosmer could have gotten back in time. Plus that would have been a big risk by Wright instead of getting the sure out at first, since everyone agrees it was a big surprise for Hosmer to have broke for home. Plus if he was in a pickle between third and home the hitter probably would have ended up at second with two outs.

I guess I’m trying to say it was risky and aggressive base running by Hosmer and not stupid.

Definitely a ballsy move and, bottom line, it worked.

If Hosmer had been thrown out, Ned Yost would be an idiot. It’s how it goes.

He’d be an idiot until the Royals win game 6 or 7, which I think they would have. As RickJay said, they were the better team.

Making a risky bet makes more sense when you still have a big pile of chips in reserve. The Royals had room to gamble, while the Mets were down to their last chip.

And maybe not. The best team doesn’t always win. Both Syndergaard and deGrom are capable of dominant performances on their best nights.

As a Yankee fan half-heartedly rooting for the Mets, I was surprised by the way Familia was used by Terry Collins. So what if he gave up a homer? When you have an elite reliever, you give him the ball when the game can be nailed down. If it had been the Yankees in their recent championships, Rivera most definitely would not have appeared in game 3. In game 4, he would have come in to start the eighth for a two inning save. And in game 5, well, there would be no question.

One way or another, this series should have gone back to KC.
