Not every one is this exciting but a surprising number are. Probably every third one is pretty special. This was an outstanding example, it will draw comparisons to 2001 (Yanks lose but after many great comebacks and the 9-11 tie-in), 2000 (Subway series) 1996 (Lots of stuff), 1997 (7th game went extra innings after Indians & Marlins both upset the favorites to get there), 1993 (Joe Carter), 1988 (Gibson), 1986 (Mets & Buckner), 1977 (Jackson), 1975 (Fisk), The 2003 & 2004 AL Championships were extremely memorable and of course in 2004 Red Sox ended the 86 year curse.
Actually maybe it is more then 1 in 3 years that are really exciting.
Because there are 7 playoff series, there’s always a few that are awesome. Few people remember, say, the 1995 NLCS, but almost every baseball fan will remember the spectacular 1995 division series between the Yankees and Mariners, one of the best playoff series of all time.
What Exit? didn’t even mention the 1991 World Series, which is without doubt the best playoff series in any sport I have ever witnessed and is frequently cited as the greatest World Series ever, and was played between two teams of limited market interest, the Braves and Twins. That after two league championship series hardly anyone recalls.
