Well other than inexplicably leaving Lohse in to face him in game one.
That is so cool. I hope you enjoy a rousing blaring of “Enter Sandman” and “New York, New York” by old Blue Eyes as Sterlings calls out into the night air, “The Yankees Win!, THE YANKEES WIN!”
That said, here comes the game. First final series game in the new stadium.
On Ventura, good for Ventura, I hope he does well.
Game 5, Tigers-Yankees. Let’s do this. I’ve been salavating about this game all day.
Don Kelly! Delmon Young!
Painful start, ouch.
This ump has a very large strike zone.
Early hook for Nova.
@WhatExit: I feel like it’s large and inconsistent. But I’ve felt like that all series with every plate ump.
Is Girardi overmanaging this a bit?
Possibly. The bullpen has been their biggest strength all year though. He must be thinking Wade for 5 and 6, Soriano 7, Robertson 8 and Rivera 9. I was surprised he used Logan so early, but they do have Sabbathia if they need another lefty.
I don’t think he is actually. So far it looks OK.
Yeah, but if he uses Sabathia tonight, he’s got problems in the next series. I don’t use him, even if it means I lose. I’ve got a collection of alleged major league pitchers in the bullpen, and they need to do their job.
Fister is looking great. Got himself into a jam, and got himself right out. Leyland has to know when to pull him, though, and not let him go one batter too long. Get him out a few batters early if necessary. One mistake will get the Yanks right back in this.
It’s his throw day. One inning is no problem. Don’t sound like McCarver.
I would have been seriously tempted if I was Girardi to have pinch-hit Montero for Martin in that last inning.
And here he is.
Look at him. Does he look like he’s into it?
Not especially sharp but your theory expressed above was not sound to me.
Well, your theory of using starting pitchers that you’re going to need if you win instead of the relievers that that’s why they’re there is ridiculous.
This isn’t the day when starting pitchers were used to working. They all throw six or seven innings every five or six days. Even if Girardi gets away with it in this inning, he’s still got to get through the rest of the game, and should the Yanks win, he’s got starter problems against the Rangers.
Using CC today for one does not affect using him on Saturday should the Yanks get the chance. Nova came out due to tightness in the shoulder. So what is your point?
Are you terminally obtuse, or are you attempting to tease me into a post that I’ll get warned for? My point is clear.
Well now that he is in for 2 innings I think Joe is making a mistake, but your point was wrong about one inning.
Well that was a reasonable pitch count for a throw day.
