MLB Umpire Rob Drake Under Investigation For Tweet Threatening People Over Trump Impeachment

Whoa now, he said “cival” war. I believe that is the Roman numeral CIV, which means 104, and AL refers to the American League. WAR as we all know is Wins Above Replacement. Can’t the poor guy talk about baseball stats without everyone piling onto him?

Thank god for Enrico Palazzo!

Weird how some people are offended by a guy threatening to kill them.

It’s fourth and fifteen and he’s looking at a full-court press.

It was a totally Republican controlled government that just gave the rich a thirteen figure tax break. It’s the Republicans that want to destroy health care for all and social security and medicare and … well, virtually any and every program that helps the common man.

You’ve gotten a ton of mileage out of False Equivalency, your “their all the same” doctrine but, please, I don’t want to hear any more of it. A democratic controlled government is about as similar to a republican controlled government as Hillary’s stupid email controversy and Obama’s gray Easter Sunday suit is similar to Trump’s collusion with the Russians and extortion of the Ukrainians. A TOTAL JOKE.

I sincerely and apologize for my part in what is obviously a hijack of this thread. The initial rant about the Republican Party being ruled by the rich was completely off-topic and I should not have responded to it.

“Fringe” is just the word I was looking for with respect to this guy.

Guess they are going to have to start calling umpires “Red.”

I’d like to go on record that I am against umpires shooting people.

Me too. And I am also against people shooting umpires…in most situations.

I hope there aren’t more wackos like this guy in sports.

I’m sure you NEVER use the report button, do you?

I’ll just say that I have no doubt that there are more than we realize, but that the others are smart enough to realize that openly saying the dumb/scary stuff that’s on their minds would quickly land them out of an exceptionally high-paying job.

If John Rocker (as an example) were playing today, I imagine we’d be hearing some seriously crazy crap coming out of his mouth.

Or Curt Schilling.

This thread is going a bit off the rails. I think we can probably get it back on track, but I’m going to have to read through it first to see how, and I don’t have time for that right this moment. I’ll probably re-open it this evening with some further moderation.

[Moderating]

OK, I’ll reopen this now, but I expect all further discussion to be on the topic of this specific case. If it doesn’t relate to this specific case, don’t bring it up. Specifically, TriPolar in post #8, Jasmine in post #12 and #25, Atamasama in #15, and ChiSquirrel in #31 were all over the line.

Any further such digressions away from this case and into politics in general will receive a Warning.

Is there a social media clause in the umpire’s CBA? I would expect so. My previous job had one and posting something that extreme would be grounds for termination. I’d think that would go double for umpires who are supposed to be anonymous, no one pays top $$$ for baseball tickets to see the umpires. I’m sure MLB wants the focus to be on the players on the field and not having to worry about the safety of an umpire making threats of political violence.

If there isn’t one now, I’d absolutely expect MLB (and the other major sports) to insist on one in their next CBA.

The CBA is not publically available, but from other lawsuits, I believe that this language is included in the umpires’ CBA: "“An umpire shall not make public statements . . . that are critical of the Commissioner of Baseball, or that otherwise are inimical to the best interests of Major League Baseball.”

I’ll note that this lowlife, pathetic scum has, apparently, not been disciplined for prior political tweets including Birther bullshit or calling Hillary Clinton a “fucking liar” during the Benghazi “investigation”

I think the AR-15 tweet is far beyond tolerable political speech (even of the kind he’s done in the past), and MLB should kick this douchenozzzle’s ass to the curb. We will see, but I’m not holding my breathe.

That’s the part that gets me, as well. I suspect if I made a public tweet about getting an AR-15 and intimating a cival [sic] war because of my objection to some political process, that I probably would end up on some sort of “watch” list, at least, if not getting a visit from some nice people with questions for me.
