Someone mentioned brunch in a (non-brunch related) thread I was just reading and now I want brunch. It’s 3.15pm here, so it’s a non-starter, sadly, but if it wasn’t I’d be torn between smoked salmon and lightly-scrambled eggs with wholemeal toast, or Eggs Benedict. In either case they’d need to come with a large glass of fresh OJ and plenty of coffee.
All my adult life, I’ve never really understood this whole thing of assigning times/meals to specific foods. Today, I had pizza for breakfast. In fact, at least five days a week, I’d say, my breakfast consists of leftover dinner from the previous night. At night, when I’m chilling out and watching TV, a nice bowl of cold cereal is the perfect snack. A little sweet, high enough in fiber (I eat frosted shredded wheat) to fill me up, not so heavy that it’ll give me gastric troubles just as I’m going to sleep. . .
If you want smoked salmon and eggs and O.J. (and coffee, if it doesn’t bother you to drink it that late in the day), just because it’s not any specific time of the day doesn’t make it a deal breaker!
Ah! Now I understand!
This is why I love those little hole-in-the-wall diners that serve breakfast 24 hours a day. Want a BLT? Great. Want a side of multi-grain pancakes on the side? You can have that, too!
You know, I considered selling my smoked salmon in the Marketplace board. Just seems to difficult to deal with regulations though. It’s pretty simple though, cure and prep takes only a few days, followed by a few hours of smoking. Think you want it bad now? Try buying the fresh salmon and waiting those days before it’s ready!
