mmmm - haggis chips!

A new taste treat!

Mackies of Scotland puts out haggis and cracked black pepper potato chips! (or crisps, if you prefer)

Bought a bag last night while grocery shopping; was crunching away on them when I came home. Mrs Piper tried one and said, “They really do taste like haggis!”

They’re great, aren’t they? Mackie’s crisps are all good though. I see from the website they are doing a limited-edition Scotch Bonnet Chilli flavour, so I’ll need to keep an eye out for those.

I’ve only seen them in one store, but now that I’ve discovered them, I’ll keep an eye out for them. Scotch bonnet chips sounds a bit hot for me, though.

The haggis, it Burns!

Northern Piper, you’re in Canada, right? Or do I have you confused with somebody else?

Where did you get them? A Scottish import shop or something?

I’d love to try these. I’m a haggis fan.

The SO is going to be away for a few days next week. I think while she’s gone, I’ll make Spicy McHaggis sandwiches.

Right, in Canada (Saskatchewan).

Our local organic food store. Not a chain or anything - they’re just interested in bringing in new or different things to try.

For instance, they sell Dr Bronner’s soaps.

Hmmm. There’s a Scottish and Irish store here. I think I’ll be looking for these, and the Scotch Bonnet Chilli flavour too.

I don’t call it ‘Haggis’ anymore - people are more willing to try it if you call it ‘Paté Écossais’.

I’m impressed that they are available in Canada, as the business is basically just two family-run farms, one in Aberdeenshire and the other in Perthshire. They also make really nice ice-cream. I had just supposed they were a fairly local thing.

(I don’t work for them!)

From their web site:

My sister picked up a bag of these for me as I like odd flavors. She got them at Fresh Market here in Ky. I rather liked them. If real haggis tastes like that then I might just try it someday.

Haggis gets a bum rap; it’s really just sausage.

I’m going to have to look for these.

Huh, I’m in Scotland and I hadn’t even heard about these!

Oh, curse you, Piper. Now I’m going to have to start hunting around for these. Do you know what the odds are of finding haggis chips in Montana?

Finally! A way to try haggis without having to actually eat haggis! I’d go for it.

:D;)

Haggis basically tastes like a kind of chopped liver sausage. It’s not as mysterious as it is made out to be.

I know, it’s just a running joke around here. If truth were told we’d none of us touch a sausage or a hot dog again unless we’d made them ourselves.

Don’t you have a store you? Couldn’t you order them in, to spread haggisy-goodness in Montana?
