MMP and Chill - Winter is Here

My poor sweetie was up much of the night in pain. He refuses to take a day off from working in the shop, then he can’t sleep because he hurts so much. Sometimes he makes me crazy.

Assuming he eventually gets up and can move, we’ll do some cleaning in the shop. Today is Otis-training day. Then the grands and their parents are coming over and we’ll have Chinese delivered for supper. Today Tobias turns 4 - last week’s party was, obviously, early. Somewhere in there, I’d like to get some day lilies in the ground. Full day ahead.

It’s all starting with 48 Ferrets, heading to mid-60s, and overcast all day. Nothing exciting in the weather picture. Thus goeth my life.

Happy Saturday

I’ve been sleeping through the night for a bit. Waking to turn over, but no bathroom runs.
A good thing.
Off to pharmacy to get my vitamin D.
Its supposed to storm later ( they never know for sure) so will be home reading later.

Hello, Mumpers! I added a new note for the front of the refrigerator. It says, “ICE IS ON.” Our fridge has an icemaker, but it won’t shut off when the bin is full. So, rather than relying on our creaky, 76-year-old, human memories, we now have a little sign.

I have many reminders. My watch and phone notify me for pill times. The phone plays Dire Straits’s Money For Nothing, and the phone plays something called “Cricket” that sounds nothing like a cricket. Wonders of modern science!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 9c/48f with a predicted high of 10c/50f and cloudy. Weather app says “Oh, Mrs Sun, please show the fuck up, you fucking twit.”

I’m not sure at the moment. I’m too far into my time at the Uni to think about moving completely away, I am at the point where my biggest consideration would be my pension! There are vacancies in other parts of the uni that I might take a bit more of a serious look at though.

Sounds like a good idea, after a trip away I appreciate a bit of time at home again. Hope you feel better soon, and congrats on the choral offer you decided you didn’t want

That would be equally as effective for us!

We had a visit from Storm Claudia yesterday, it was absolutely miserable. I’ll try to bring something better when we come up at the end of the month!

So yesterday was a miserable day for a variety of reasons. I sent my two minions home early to make sure they got home before darkness and flooding made roads a real problem. I managed to get home myself although there were a lot of train cancellations and buses that just did not appear.

This morning I was up bright and early, tended to the needs of cats and squeezed in a couple of cups of tea before heading out to do some fundraising for Little Paws. It went quite well, people are generous but a lot of it is loose change, however we are not in a position to complain. There were some lovely people, very chatty, and the 2hrs went very quickly. I’m home again, ‘im indoors has gone to the gym and will not be back until slightly too late to make it for lunch at Jack’s, so that afternoon plan has changed.

We’ll have lunch at home, then go and do our errands, and I’ll make some chilli this afternoon. We haven’t decided whether to have it for dinner tonight or tomorrow, if I make it today we can decide on that later. ‘im indoors is mithering about it because I bought the mince on Monday and it’s now four days past it’s sell-by date (not sure if it’s got a use-by date). It’s been in the fridge all week so I am not bothered about it, doubt it’s going to kill us!

Off to see a couple of bands at the Giffard tonight, and there’s a new real ale/cask ale bar that’s just opened in town so we will probably drop in there to have a nose.

52F this morning, so a bit more seasonal than yesterday’s 72. Forties the rest of the week.

We were going to do laundry today, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. We’ll be going to dinner with the wife’s niece and husband later on. My daughter is coming for a Sunday visit and we’ll probably do birria tacos at the local bodega.

Time to get breakfast underway and get some coffee on board.

Alexa is my auxiliary brain. In fact, I’m running our countertop ice maker and she reminds me when I need to dump the ice bin into the freezer bin. She also reminds me to check the laundry when it’s going and to take my meds every night. Not sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing.

If it passes the sniff test, you’re good. Plus I expect the various peppers and such in chili would kill any nasties, or maybe that’s just my prejudice against chili.

FCD is out in his shop putting his tools away. He’ll call when he’s ready for my cleaning help. I already emptied the dishwasher and de-ashed the pellet stove. So until he beckons, I’ve got some chill time. And we don’t need to head to PetSmart till 1:30 and it’s barely 9:30 right now.

Good morning, everyone.

It’s 53°F, damp and cloudy outside. We expect considerable cloudiness in the morning and rain showers this afternoon, with a daytime high of 57°F. Yesterday was exceptionally soggy, with non-stop rain.

Boo Fae, I’m sorry yesterday was rather cruddy for you. I hope today is much, much better. I can understand wanting to stay within the system, given that you have so many years vested. I felt the same about Fed service.

Sticky Buns, I hope the head zaps are gone when you get up.

Shoe, I would find it pretty unnerving to be locked in a freezer. I would hope that is fixed ASAP and not something that lingers on, like the water in the light fixture thing. I’m glad you were let out before you became a human popsicle.

Red, I’m glad you’re feeling a little better.

Still feeling cruddy, although the drip from the front of the nose has dissipated. Now, it drips down my throat into my chest; fun times for sure.

I think today will be a day of high sloth, other than doing dishes, and little piddly things.

You all take care of yourselves, please.

Flyboy, re the dog that didn’t howl in the night - it’s almost as if someone tinkered with its voicebox and disabled it! Mum’s the word.

Holy guacamole, was there a lot of teak sawdust in the shop!! There’s still more, but there will be more sanding, so I just got the worst of it up. Meanwhile, here’s the top of the swim platform with the ladder clamped in place. Before the ladder is installed, the platform will get 3 coats of Cetol and two top coats of clear Cetol. It will be BEE-YOO-TEE-FUL!

FCD will need help getting it from the truck to the boat - that sucker is HEAVY!! It’s close to 12’ long and 20" wide. At the thickest it’s about an inch and three quarters. It’s some dense teak!

And, yes, that’s Otis in the background of the 3rd pic, chewing on some wood scraps. Because he’s nuts.

On break from rehearsal for tomorrow’s concert (Chamber Chorus). Last night we let the kittens stay out over night as an experiment. It went well. They did not destroy the house. They will still stay in their room when we’re not around. Trying to figure out what we’re going to do about a Christmas tree.

73 at the moment. It’s November. That’s stupid. Winter is not here.

Serious sleepage was attained, except for one bathroom break, I was abed until 9am today, not a personal best, mind you, but still later than I’ve been in quite awhile. Woke to cloudy skies and 65F (heading to 76F) and nothing much on the agenda. Some house-irk should be done, but whether I will do it remains to be seen. Otherwise slothage will occupy the day, this is my 1-month break on Saturday between the Fall soccer season and the indoor Futsal season, so I plan to take advantage of it…by doing little…

And see what else my fellow MMP’ers have been up to in the past 12 hours…

Bright Tree, yipes!! Glad you’re Ok.

Dicey, good advice, there is supposed to be a set of You Tubes on the car on-line that I haven’t bothered to look up, need to do so. Had my gallbladder out 25+ years ago, keep an eye on it, the pain can be very miserable. And hope brain keeps on braining.

Well-played.

Sticky Buns, I’m trying to imagine brain Zaps like you describe and can’t really. Just hope yours goes away and mine never starts…

swampy, thinking any meeting in the known universe will take ‘only a half-hour’ is just asking for it… But hope it doesn’t delay your RDOS activities.

FCM, men can be stubborn…and some to the point of self-injury. Hope he figures that out sooner than later. And lovely work on the platform.

Pavo, glad house is still standing post-kitten freedom. And I may be mowing my lawn here in December…weather be weird, indeed.

Take care all.

Knots, I’m old-fashioned, still use sticky notes to remind me of things, albeit my new car likes to remind me via bluetooth that the doors are unlocked and would I like to lock them remotely. So guess I am getting into this 21st century stuff…

boo fae, glad you survived the storm mostly unscathed. Awating the report on the new bar…

..hmmm, a “the curious incident of the dog in the night-time” scenario…

We are back from dog school, and now Peach is running laps around the inside of the house. This includes turning the corner in my office by bouncing off the couch. She’s going to knock the couch over on one of these trips.

It’s currently 52°F with an expected high of 64: warmer than yesterday, but it’ll be mostly cloudy all day. Staying home all day yesterday worked out so well that I might just do it again today.

If WifeBFF feels up to it I’ll see her and HusbandBFF either today or tomorrow, but she’s been having some GI issues so I’m not holding my breath. At this point I’m just hoping to see them on Thanksgiving…which I can’t believe is less than 2 weeks away already.

I got hot water out of the tub faucet this morning! I pushed a little on the handle while turning it on, and that seems to have done the trick. So, no plumber today. But if I haven’t actually figured it out and the water’s back to only lukewarm tomorrow, I’ll call someone. November has been the month of repairs – no water in the shower 1.5 weeks ago, flat tire 1 week ago (which turned into a 5-day ordeal and resulted in four new tires and an alignment), and now this – and I’d really just like for everything to work properly for at least the rest of the year thankyouverymuch.

I got the elbow strap yesterday and used it a few times while doing things around the house: sometimes it seemed to help, but other times it didn’t. I think I might not always be putting it on correctly. I’ll see if I can get it right today, but I have a full elbow brace – and the Wrist Widget that Paintcharge mentioned – in my Amazon wish list just in case. There might actually be a couple of things going on: in addition to whatever tendinitis I might have developed, last night I remembered that I also recently whacked this elbow pretty good two days in a row. On election day (11/04) I was sitting on the edge of a molded plastic chair and tipped the chair right out from under me, hitting my arm just behind the elbow when I landed; the next day, at my office’s tech expo, I was under a table connecting some computer stuff and when I got up I managed to hit the same elbow.

I’m glad I still have the rest of today and all of tomorrow off, but I think by Monday morning I’ll be ready to be back at work. After almost 8 months I still love my job; it’s a nice feeling.

Yesterday I learned that a friend’s pre-teen son is battling an eating disorder and has become severely underweight: they’re at an inpatient treatment center in the midwest, and she thinks a feeding tube will need to be inserted today. I can’t imagine how terrified she is. We exchanged several emails after I found out, and she shared that on top of worrying about her son’s life she’s also feeling like an abject failure as a parent because she sometimes allowed him to use the eating disorder to manipulate her (e.g., “I’ll eat if you buy me this game”). She’s divorced; her ex has been similarly manipulated. Family counseling starts on Monday: I really hope it’s able to help her take some of that weight off herself.

Very early Tuesday morning I have an appointment at the bariatric center; it’ll be my first one in two years. I fell off the wagon – more like I jumped off and ran in the other direction – and got way behind in checkups and lab work. I also stopped going to my primary care provider (PCP), who finally refused to renew my metformin prescription without labs/a physical: I know I still need that med, which meant finally getting my act together. I discovered that I need to find a new PCP, but was able to make an appointment with – and get lab orders from – “my” nurse practitioner (NP) at the bariatric center. I had blood drawn a week ago; the results are mostly what I expected. On Tuesday morning I’ll brace myself for the reckoning, and will ask if the NP can manage my metformin prescription or if I need a PCP for that (I’ve identified a new one). I also plan to ask about starting Wegovy, which was mentioned to me 1.5 years ago as an option but there was still a shortage at the time. I can’t believe my 4-year “surgiversary” is a week from today!

I’m willing to give it a go (and I’ll try the red kind, flyboy!).

That concept is completely foreign to me: I might leave home without cash, but if I have my license I also have my credit and debit cards.

That could be enough to make me consider purchasing a BB gun!

Ha…but I’m so glad you managed to avoid the collision!

I don’t get the “also ghosts” bit…like, enter with caution and ghosts?

Awww! :tada:

I’m only 54 but also all about the electronic reminders! I use Google Keep and Google Calendar extensively – for when it’s time to take my supplements/meds (3x day), when the trash goes out, when I need to change the furnace filter, etc. I get either emails or pop-ups on my phone, depending on the topic. I also rely on Outlook at work: I have reminders to do my timesheet, follow up with people, etc.

Start recording video! :joy:

I’ve always had Formica or composite, According to Sis, don’t even think about getting tile. She’s replaced one of her tile counters and the next money spent on the kitchen, she’ll replace the other.

When my nose begins to drip down the back of my throat, I keep some Chloraseptic spray on hand so’s I don’t keep caughing and wind up with bronchitis.

Is teak sawdust corrosive? I remember working with walnut and oak and even before it was OSHA requires, I wore a mask.

I slept until almost 0900 this morning! Even after all of the napping I did yesterday. I’m still not :100: , but feel a bit better.

Sis swung by with more gatorade and took my trash out for me. Is it any wonder she’s my favorite sister?

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I was on the slides all morning. I had a bunch of abandoned International packages to send to overgoods. Which now include filling out a paper form, along with the electronic entry. If we have to do this for every abandoned 10oz bottle of Turkish shampoo during Peak, we’ll need more clerks. And there was the usual avalanche of package to scan and data enter, because…reasons. But I’m showered, the laundry is in the dryer, the bacon, eggs, gin&tonic is in me, so naptime till hockey.
Hope the head stops zapping you, sticky.

They’re not that great, or did they all just take their monthly baths?

Rather than relying on Spot to tell us when dinner is we have a little sign

I think you adopted the reincarnation of Cale Yarborough.

Someone refuses to wear a mask. Or hearing protection. He will wear his welding helmet, tho, and occasionally gloves when working with certain materials. I have no idea if it’s corrosive, but it sure is a fine dust.

Otis was a brat in class - too many distractions, and he wanted to rassle with Trevor all the time. But we learned stuff to work on this week, so there’s that.

The Chinese dinner was good, but I goofed and forgot to order Roxy’s meal. She shared some of her dad’s and all was good. They’ve all gone home and it’s quiet here again. Slight chance of rain overnight but mostly it’ll be mild, so no freezing here.

Thus winds up my day. I think. We’ll see if any more excitement ensues.

Part Cale Yarborough, part meercat.

It’s now raining, so Ms pretty paws doesn’t want to go out. Snow seems better than rain, but we’ve only had light snow so far. Let’s see how she likes a blizzard. (Now I want a blizzard from DQ…I don’t even know where the closest one is.)

Hey everyone. I’ve read and retained, but I’m out of spoons for the day.

Shoe, that sounds terrifying. At one point in my life, I had to inventory the contents of a walk in freezer weekly, they get really cold really fast. I hope it gets fixed and nobody gets stuck in there again. I also wish women’s pants came with pockets that held a phone, but that might be a big much to ask.

In my news, I went to the library with a box of food and ended up volunteering to help folks fill out their food stamp applications online. Everyone has to reapply no matter how long they’ve been on food stamps and those online applications can be a bear if folks aren’t used to dealing with that sort of thing. I’m not a food stamp worker anymore, but I still know how to fill out an online application.

This is just more cruelty, there is no reason for this but to inconvenience and frighten poor people. Not to mention that everyone is backlogged already do to this horrible economy and people will go hungry again.

TC friend is a hospice worker who is now working for free (well, she has a full time job) because her client ran out of home visits because he didn’t die fast enough and has pretty much been told by his insurance company “Too bad, so sad. You can have more visits if you live until the first of the year”. TC friend has gotten a new job, she’s working on a ranch now. She thinks raking up horse shit out of barn stalls is a much better job than getting paid peanuts to watch lonely people die forgotten, so once this client kicks the bucket she will be done and won’t renew her licenses. This is a real shame, all of the good and compassionate health care people burn out and leave.

Now that I’ve lived with my kitchen for a year, I’m ready to rearrange it. While we were unpacking, I put things where I thought they should go. I was wrong, now I know my work flow out there and I put stuff in some really inconvenient places.

I also want to paint the cabinets and change out the pulls, but Hubs will fuss about the cats and paint fumes so I’ll have to wait on that until spring. Not that it is that cold now, it warmed right back up after the snow. Currently its 65f and cloudy.

Most of the birds have flown away but now that the forest is getting bare I can see the squirrels swooping along in the moonlight. I rarely see bats but I can sure hear them in the early dark. Everything is stocking up for the winter, us included. While our roads will always be clear enough for us to go out if needed, when its seriously ick outside we like to be able to stay home and feel sorry for those poor working stiffs out there in the sleet and slush.

Oh, and this is a long shot, but does anyone have Carnut’s contact info? She hasn’t posted here for quite a while and I wanted to send her a little something for x-mas. I have her mailing address from last year but don’t know if it is still the same.

I’m sick again. This time, I’m throwing up. The only thing that doesn’t upset me is seltzer with slices of ginger. This thing has dehydrated me enough that I’m not urinating like I should. I’m hoping that my PCP can give me something to alleviate this crap Monday.

Sorry for the whine.
