(Old) MMP and Chill - Winter is Here

Howdy Y’all! A quick post cause my DAWGS are playin’ the cattle. Meetin’ went well. MetalMouse we were second on the agenda and got to leave when we finished, so about thirty minutes. The actual meetin’ was still goin’ on. I neither wanted or needed to stay for the rest. OK, time to stare at tackleball.

Up from naptime, watching hockey. Having a Sazarac and Asian BBQ stirfry for dinner(with Sichuan peppercorns for extra heat) for dinner. Spot is doing his evening rounds.

Tomorrow is the Big Day: Grey Cup!

Canada’s annual piss-up!

I mean,

Canada’s annual major football competition. Much more sedate.

Saskatchewan Roughriders v Montreal Alouettes!

Only the third time these two teams have met in the Grey Cup; previous ones were 2009 and 2010.

We will not speak of the 2009 debacle. No sir. (Always makes the “worst championship game” in all those Top 20 countdowns on TSN Sports Centre, with a clip of the Riders’ offensive coach smashing his hat down on the desk.)

I like the Riders’ chances. Finished first in the League, with a talent for pulling it out of the hat when needed. Strong running back; veteran QB who’s come off his best season ever; and one of the best defences in the CFL.

But, the Als have a strong QB as well, just off the injury list, and also with a strong defence.

This game will be won or lost in the trenches: smash-mouth football!

ETA: it’s available online: CFL streaming, if any of you Muricans want to tune into real football!

(Only 3 downs, as God intended, and none of that wimpy “fair catch so you can’t tackle me” nonsense.)

Do you have a dial-a-nurse option? I’m not happy with this “wait until Monday” thing.

Evening all. Spent much of the afternoon at the gym, either walking or pedaling with a fair amount of time sitting and reading. Filled my gas tank, with the big Kroger card shopping discount it only cost $17.50 and as far as I can tell, I got about 32.5mpg out of it, mostly with stop-and-go-local-traffic driving so not too bad. And did figure out which button to push to open the gas tank lid…

Decided that since this weekend had no designated Sunday Dinner locale, I would go to 5 Guys tonight and have my Fettuccini Alfredo tomorrow for dinner. Also decided to see how large the 5 Guys Large Fries were. They were…large. Probably could have made a meal just from them, but the burger was pretty good too, so I am well-stuffed.

Rest of the evening will be Internettin’ and TV watchin’, expect that even with the exercise I’ll be up late what with sleeping in until 9am,

Maybe you should…

Oopsie, hope your problems are over repair-wise. And best wishes for your friend and her son, hope he gets the treatment he needs. Good wishes on the medical front.

red, sounds like you’re need some rest time and medicine for what ails you; take care of yourself and glad you have Sis nearby to help out.

doggio, love that pic!!

JtC, good on you volunteering, not going to get into the politics of it but I reckon most places could use folks like you to help. And TC friend burning out is understandable, that has to be a stressful job at the best times, and obviously it is not the best times…

swampy, this state is in the doldrums as Ali-bama lost to the Okies, better luck to the Dawgs (and I see they are up 14-3). Glad you didn’t have to stay for the balance of the meeting.

Piper, since you mentioned it, I had to look up the 2009 Grey Cup, it seems like it was an exciting game, with one team coming back to win in the closing seconds…so I presume that wasn’t your team… Better luck this year!!

And that’s all for now. The Buckeyes look to be doing well without my help so I’ll probably browse the internet some more. Have a good evening all.

FCMom, I remember a few things from my factory safety classes. Stuff that goes into your lungs, other than air, does not come out again. Even if it’s seemingly harmless stuff like dirt and sawdust, it never goes away. It might decompose, but it fills up the tiny air sacs in there. Every space that is full will never breathe again.

Hey, cool! SenBoy is now SenRefBoy.

For several years, we bought a hunk of turkey breast, instead of a whole bird.

Our nephew’s mega-miles Cadillac has ceased to be useful, so they got a brand-new Ford Ranger. Fortunately, his son-in-law is a salesman at the Ford dealer, so they got the best possible deal.

Since you dragged it out:

*Riders were ahead in the final seconds.
*Als kicked a field goal - wide!
*Rider fans across the country start celebrating!
*Flag. :worried:
*Ref puts his hands on his hat.
*Too many men on the field - 13, not 12. :scream:
*Als get a do-over on the field goal, 5 yards closer.
*and it’s good.

Riders lose the Grey Cup.

To their credit, no-one on the team or the coaching staff has ever identified the player who was on field when they shouldn’t have been.

I think it was their head coach who said afterward: “We win as a team, we lose as a team. Tonight we lost as a team.”

I’m really sorry you are feeling so poorly, but want to remind you that dehydration can kill a person. Maybe call your sister and have her take you to a Doc inna Box?

I agree, this is only Saturday, Monday is a very long time from now.

I’m not volunteering on behalf of the state and don’t have access to their food stamp system. I do know how to go to their website and fill out the application and print it out.

That will give folks a paper copy to take home and complete if they aren’t comfortable giving me their SSN’s and income paperwork. (they will be sitting right next to me and will be able to see that I’m just typing what they say, but some folks think I’m able to flash memorize 9 digits while doing it.)

We did that for many years but really do like all of the bird. Now we are RDOS who can take the time and bother so we do.

That is how team sports should work. Good coach!

So I’m having a complaint about the American Needlepoint Guild. As a paid member, I get access to all of their online magazines as well as a bunch of other cool stuff so of course agreed to renew when prompted.

Apparently I need access to my old, now defunct email to finish the transaction and I can’t figure out how to find a work-around. I’ll look at it again tomorrow, but I’m afraid I’ll have to actually call and talk to someone. Or just rejoin, but then I’ll lose my old timer status. When one is over 80 and has been a member for at least 20 years, they get ten bucks off their yearly membership and free dead tree magazines.

I rented a house with tile counters years ago. AVOID.

… whether they needed them or not.

We’re not really supposed to have phones out in the kitchen (a rule that admittedly gets broken all the time).

I would do that, too, but I’d be sad to miss out on the crispy skin, gnawing on the wings, and simmering the bones for broth. (I only ever see turkey beasts as boneless/skinless, alas.)

Okay, I managed to not go to sleep until 5 a.m. this morning :upside_down_face: so you can guess how energetic I was at work today.

Took a restorative nap on my “lunch” break, but I’m going the hell to bed here in a sec. Slept hard for, what, 15 or 20 minutes on my break, which got me through my shift.

… maybe I should sleep in my car in the driveway, instead of tossing and turning in my climate-controlled home atop my comfy mattress.

You are a warrior goddess in my eyes, you know that don’t you?

Absolutely, cruelty is the whole point. And then they’ll make entire families sit around hungry for a month because there is a big backlog of apps to process and the state can only afford a minimum staff so it’ll take time….funny, it seemed to only take seconds to not load 42 million people’s SNAP Nov 1.

Please tell her she’s a goddess in my eyes too.

Yep, we do.

I hope those are some of Harry’s flying squirrels~that’s so thrilling. There are several colonies within a mile or two of me but they still so few I’ve never seen one.

This cranky night nurse says, whatever you do, DO NOT WAIT UNTIL MONDAY TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT BEING DEHYDRATED! Especially at our age and when you’ve been sick one way or another for days.

Drink some Gatorade now while you call your nurse line or if that isn’t possible, go to an urgent care tonight. If there aren’t open urgent cares, go to an ER.

Congrats to your Dawgs on chasing those Longhorns back to Texas. Both my tackleball teams have a bye week so I’m at loose ends.

This night nurse ain’t either. Let’s gang up on her.

I agree. And don’t think for a second that you should wait til tomorrow or Monday so you don’t bother people at this hour.

pretty sure it’s an even bigger, badder OSHA rule that commercial freezer doors must have a functioning emergency exit failsafe openers.

Til then don’t go in without your phone and make it a temporary rule that no one goes in unless a cow-irker buddy is standing outside to let them out, until the door is fixed and the city inspector has cleared it.

Glad I mentioned something to you guys…sitting (interminably) at the laundromat later I started to wonder and thought I should check on da Chiefs (trust me, if the Cornhuskers were playing a game today there is no way in this town I could have missed it).

Oops, the Chiefs ARE playing Sunday, at 3:25pm, against the Denver Broncos, a team not too popular in this here parts.

At least my Chiefs shirts are now both clean so I can suit up when I go to the House of the Grands (who will all be in Chiefs gear, including the baby).

Conked out for a couple of glorious (and dream-filled) hours, woke for bio-break & some Internettin’ and am now working through a hot snack (frozen TV dinner - don’t judge - the turkey/stuffing kind, plus this one comes with cinnamon apples).

Along with a few slices of Gouda on the side, because cheese. Which was just a random “ooh, snack in front of me” but it goes very nicely with the apples.

And a multivitamin, cuz man did I feel rough today.

I know it was because of a lack of sleep, but gotta keep those systems powered.

Also a certain someone gifted me homemade cookies, and imma drift back off to dreamland now with the most wonderful sweetness on my tongue.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 53 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 78 and sunny. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I have Chalice duty. Then it will be back to da cave for sammiches and RDOS inactivities. Sup will be chili/cheese/onion/slaw dawgs and fries. Fartfest to follow.

My DAWGS ate steak last night to the tune of 35-10. WOOF! WOOF! WOOF! I didn’t stay up for the whole game. I cannot stay up past ten p.m.

shoe no judgment for the teevee dinner. Haven’t had one in a loooooong time, but the turkey one is the best IMO. Might have to mention to OYKW the idea of gettin’ a couple. We could call it a pre Turkey Day practice. Homemade cookies, SCORE!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization shall commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. It’s a balmy 60 degrees ferret Height(15.6 Centipedes). and the high’s supposed to be 75. So an open window day in mid November. I shall do the usual morning cleaning and afternoon pro handegg and sloth.

We don’t judge eating.

So say we all.

State got crushed by Miami 42-7. But UNC(Team of Rational Hatred) and Incarnate Word(Team of Irrational Hatred) both lost, so the kollege handegg weekend was a wash.

(I have this one)

Agree. My first apartment had them and there was much hate on my part.

I’ve never seen flying squirrels, but I did see flying fish on one of our cruises - they were a hoot to watch!

SIL’s family are all Auburn fans, and one of the first gifts they gave Roxy was an Auburn onesie!

I can’t recall the last time I had one, but I used to buy a bunch of the low-calorie frozen pasta dishes. Someone made a Swedish meatball on noodles that I really liked. I haven’t bought any in a few eons. At the moment, the issue is freezer space… 14# turkey, yanno.

58 Ferrets here when I awoke, on the way to mid-60s with sun today. I must get the day lilies into the ground! That is today’s chore. Beyond that, no plans yet.

I got almost 8 hours of sleepage last night!! It was glorious! I’m feeling close to human with actual energy this morning. That bodes well for planting. I also need to review the puppy training book and work on some of the latest skills. There are too many distractions in PetSmart to keep Otis’ attention, especially if he can see Trevor. So armed with a bag of treats, we shall see.

Speaking of whom, I hear FCD releasing him from his overnight home. And so the day begins.

Happy Sunday!!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 7c/45f with no predicted change, and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Do we talk about the fucking weather because we’re fucking boring?” No, I do it because it’s a terribly British thing to do

That sounds like just the right kind of day if you’re feeling cruddy. I hope it helps to get some rest, and you’re soon on the mend.

I had a live tree set in a solid piece of wood as a base, then put a very small hook in the ceiling and attached the top of the tree to the hook with a bit of fishing line. The tree stayed upright, and the kitties could climb it without it falling over. It would sway a bit, but otherwise it was stable enough to deal with a couple of inquisitive and adventurous kitties. And you never have to explain to anyone else why there’s a hook in the ceiling!

We popped in last night on our way to the Giffard. It’s very nicely done, very long bar with around 27 beers and ciders. Plenty of bar staff and a guy doing an acoustic guitar session in the corner. They haven’t quite finished it yet, they’re waiting to install the beer board with all the useful info on it. We had a decent pint of Black Cat Brewery’s “Superstition”. Once the beer board’s functioning, it will list beers by brewery, name, strength, type (lager, bitter, stout, porter etc) and price. Ours were a mid-range price, cheaper than the Giffard and a bit more expensive than the Posada. It will be somewhere we go back to, that’s for sure.

That must be awful for the whole family, I hope he is getting the right treatment and she gets some support from counselling. She shouldn’t feel that she’s failed, a child with an eating disorder must be such a difficult thing to deal with, I am sure many people in her situation would resort to desperate measure just to get their child to eat something. Fingers crossed for both of them.

That’s good news, I was hoping you’d continue to improve but I see further down the thread that you’re poorly again. I really hope you can get some help from the doc, but waiting until Monday doesn’t sound good. Do you have a phone-in service you could try?

That’s why you’re on the Good People list - I am sure there were plenty of folks who were grateful that you could help them, especially as you know what you’re doing.

Lucky you! Definitely deserved after the awful time you’ve had recently.

Yesterday was a fun day. I did a couple of hours fundraising for Little Paws at a local supermarket (we raised just over £250 which will go straight to the vet bills), then came home for lunch. Afterwards, we went into town to do some errands. I made some chilli with the manky mince when we got back so that’s all ready for dinner tonight. Last night we had a chippy tea so even though I ordered a mini fish and chips, I still have a tub of chips left for lunch today.

We got ourselves ready to go out and Ubered into town. First stop was the new Pack bar (Perfect Ale Cask Keg) which only opened yesterday. It was quite busy which was nice to see, although the barman told us that most of the crowd was from another bar which somehow had missed their weekly beer delivery so they’d run out of most things! We had a drink in there, then went down the road to the Giffard to see three bands.

The bands were all very good, it was a fun night, and ‘im indoors bought me a hoodie (gigs are good for xmas shopping!) from my favourite band of the night. We didn’t stay very long afterwards as they’d run out of our usual beer, so we wandered back up to the Posada and saw a couple of friends in there.

We left around 1am, went down the road to where there are usually some cabs, the taxi driver recognised us and knew where we were going  Got home and had a cup of tea before bed. So far today, the cats have been tended to, litter trays have all been emptied at least twice and I’ve had a bath. That’s the sum total of effort for today, I am planning an afternoon of slothage!

Last week, Otis gave my arm a good tear (not deliberate - he’s got rough paws and nails) and when I’d take the bandage off, it would start bleeding again. The problem was the bandage sticking to and pulling the surrounding skin, opening the owie. So I dug thru our medicinal supplies and found no-stick pads. I put one on and fastened it in place with adhesive bandages. We’ll see if this works better. I want to leave it open to dry and heal, but when I open it, the bleeding restarts. So this is a test.

I’ve decided I’ll start my chore day by helping FCD with sanding the platform - specifically the long grooves he routed. I need to break (round) the edges and sand inside the grooves so we can start the coatings. It will all have to be done by hand because of the profile. So I hope to get it done in a few hours. Then I’ll head outside this afternoon for my garden task. I should be properly exhausted in no time.

He’s back - off to work!!

29F this morning; what a difference!

We went out to dinner with the niece and her spouse last night. Went to a local place called Kramarczuk’s, which has really good food, considering it’s cafeteria style. They’ve been in business for 70 years, since the original founder and his family immigrated from Ukraine. Good, solid food and they sell house made sausages and other goodies in their store. I actually found guanciale there last night!

Laundry today and then my daughter comes over. We’ll probably go out for tacos.

Prediction for weather in Winnipeg, site of the Grey Cup, is just above freezing for game time.

Should make for a better game than last week’s western final, where it was 10 below Celsius. Ball gets hard and slippery, and the field is slippery at that temp, which affects the game.
