MMP and Chill - Winter is Here

That’s so interesting! Thanks much. It gets too cold here for fuchsia to survive the winter. I don’t move them indoors because the window box is firmly attached to the balcony railing. Plus this way they still attract Anna’s hummingbirds, which are here year-round.

I knew that dropping into the BMW dealership near my hotel this morning with no appointment would be a long shot, so I wasn’t surprised when they said they couldn’t help me today. But, it turns out there’s also a dealership 2 miles away from my next hotel: I have an appointment there for first thing Wednesday morning. I am so relieved that I’ll be able to get the other two new tires and an alignment before I drive the 250 miles back home! Today I’ve been able to chill and focus on work*, and tomorrow I’ll be able to just enjoy visiting my aunt. I’ll check out of NJ hotel #1 in the morning, as planned: I can’t check into NJ hotel #2 until 4pm, so I’ll go straight to my aunt’s (about 50 miles south of here) and take her to lunch. I’ll spend a couple more days in NJ, but am planning to drive home on Friday vs Sunday so I’ll have some solid recovery time at home this weekend (actually, I might head south late Thursday night to avoid the Friday traffic).

*Well, except for right now.

I had Chipotle for lunch (via DoorDash), and will have dinner with my cousin and her family.

What JtC said. I’d imagine that it’s sooooo much cheaper for places to make people do some work in order to get a credit/refund/etc.: not only will many people not bother, so the company isn’t out that money, they’re also not out the labor hours they would have spent on processing those credits/refunds/etc. It all adds up.

I would have thought A Christmas Story, too.

Awwww. But what happened to the purple sweater?

Bailey loved snow: she would tear around, doing donuts in the back yard. Heh.

:two_hearts:

Welcome back!

:joy:

Ugh. :people_hugging:

I think it’s so he has enough time to review the results, compare them to your history, come up with any needed recommendations, etc. At least, that’s how it is with my docs. They might not be able to look at the results for a day or two, so a week gives them plenty of time to get their ducks in a row before I show up expecting them to know stuff.

I started taking meds for my prostate cancer in June of 2024. After that I had fifteen weeks of radiation, three per week. I have seven months to go before I will stop taking the meds.

The list of side effects is very long. Two of the three meds I take every day list weight gain at the top of the list. I have been fighting it all along. At the first of the year I had to cave in and buy some bigger jeans. At that time we were walking an hour and a half every day, just trying to stay active, but we realized it was not doing as much good as we wanted.

In February we joined the gym. We are there every morning for an hour and a half. We warm up with some stretches and free weights for fifteen minutes then head to the weight machines for half an hour. We alternate upper and lower lifts each day. After the weights we do half an hour on the treadmill or elliptical. We cool off with fifteen minutes on the rowing machines. Last week we signed up for spin class on Tuesday and Thursday.

I wasn’t sure what the results were, but for the last couple of weeks I was having trouble keeping my bigger jeans up. I grabbed a pair of my regular 501s out of the tote in the laundry room and they fit just perfectly.

I am very pleased…

I’m envious. My current doc–well, my former PCPs, too–looks at my chart and test results for the first time upon entering the exam room.

Yay and whew on getting an appointment tomorrow to get the tires done! It’ll make the trip home a lot more comfortable to have peace of mind.

That’s not for wear in the snow. She’d just roll around and get it soaked. The German army jacket is for outside when there is actual snow coming from the sky. It was super snow zoomies this evening.

Congrats!

I got an email from my former boss (she, whose position I inherited when she retired – she still has a board membership): ‘I have so much to tell you so it might be easier for you to call me when you get off work.’ Hm… Intriguing.

I updated my résumé on WorkSource Washington on the weekend. I got an email from a temp agency today. I looked at their openings and replied that it didn’t look like there were any that needed my skills. (It looks like they offer ‘industrial’ jobs like machine operators and bakers and things.) The woman said that they often have openings that are filled before they can post them, and that they’d like me to come in for an interview… like at 3:00 tomorrow. I asked for another day for a 3:30 slot. She said she’d try to make that work. I’m not in a rush to use a temp agency, and I’m planning to apply for a commercial credit position at a bank. But it would be a shame if I had to resign early, before anyone could be trained.

Supper-chef boy r dee lasagna.
Got the new People magazine.
Cold and wet leaves outside.
Just a trace of snow.

Yeah, you’re up there in lake effects snow country, it may / may not be brutal. Stay safe and warm.

Welcome back, 52. I’m sorry about your uncle.

I plan on making a simple pot of chicken veggie soup tomorrow. I have some thighs in the freezer and (don’t judge!) some frozen soup veggie blend to keep things simple.

Yay!

Sis swung by to pick up my grocery list today. She’ll be back tomorrow to go with me to the doctor. The GI issues are doing a bit better today, but it’s still been an achy day where staying warm has been a challenge.

Although I really didn’t do much in the studio today, I did get some things out to make some mini posters for 22 November to distribute to anyone who wants them at the protest, Nelson was elated to see his favorite auntie.

Howdy Y’all! We did indeed have a day of high RDOS sloth. I read, napped and watched trash teevee. Oh day drank as well. The major activities were haulin’ trash cans all the way back up the driveway to where they stay and the makeage of sup. Neither task was strenuous.

Everyone experiencin’ snow, better thee than me.

drsunflower1 welcome back! This is the MMP. You can check out anytime you want, but you can never leave. Just like a hotel in California.

Pulley drone fishin? I woulda never thunk of that. Awful old horror movies are the bestest!

Taters glad y’all enjoyed the ebike ride.

Pilot glad gf and you had a good time.

VanGo what did Ms. Peach think of the snow?

JtC thanks for the reminder. I will order Aldi boxes tomorrow.

MetalMouse bein’ able to recite a huge poem in impressive. However, not to brag, I am able to remember where my wallet, keys, cellphone and glasses are ninety percent of the time.

52 so sorry about your uncle and the family drama. Some folks just love to ride in on the drama llama.

Oopsie glad you will be able to get the tires and alignment done before the drive home.

Ordered Chinese food for dinner. The wife likes it a lot, but most of it to me is just previously made breaded chicken glopped with a different sauce. Ah well, it makes her happy and we have tons of leftovers.

We had a disappointment today. We have never had chestnuts, so some were acquired.

We thought they were ick straight out of the bag and then I put them in the toaster and salted them and thought they were ick then too.

We still have half a bag left, do you guys have any suggestions before I crush them up and put them out for the crows?

I love chestnuts, so I can’t be helpful. However, as it happens, my order of chestnut flour just arrived this evening, and I’m looking forward to making an unleavened gluten-free Italian flatbread. Maybe their site will help? Fresh Chestnut Recipes — Breadtree Farms

Roasted chestnuts featured in many of my childhood books, so I figured they had to be good. I’m actually wondering if it is just this sort of bagged chestnuts that is ick and I’d be happier with fresh.

Add some butter and milk to each box. I know that it is expected that folks would have that already but times are different now.

So the snow continues to fall and everything is white. It will warm up and start raining tomorrow and be up in the 60’s by Thursday. Hubs says he needs to mow the lawn before winter, I think he should just leave it alone until spring.

I really do need to deal with my potato bag, though. If I don’t do something soon, all of the bag will have rotted off and the dirt will be all over the back porch.

Probably. I think Julia Child has instructions for roasting them. I slit them with an X oln the curved side an roast them in a cast iron frying pan in a 350 oven. They need to be peeled as soon as you can handle them after cooking. Here’s a slightly fancier approach: https://tastesbetterfromscratch.com/roasted-chestnuts/

My mother always makes a chestnut stuffing for the turkey. Peeling is one of my tasks.

Up from naptime, watching the Packers on Monday Night Handegg. Having an Old Fashioned, fries, and a cheeseburger(sauteed onions and 'shrooms, Muenster cheese, stone ground mustard).

{{{{liirouge}}}

I drink coffee in the middle of summer. But wishing you flannel weather. And welcome!

“Princess Pretty Paws”, who wouldn’t go out if there was dew on the grass, loved snow

Yaya!

We are also pleased.

Never had 'em Roomie like them, though.

Late wife grew up in the northeast eating freshly roasted chestnuts from childhood. She loved them.

I grew up in the southwest only ever having read of them; never experiencing them. But they sounded great.

In our very late 30s we moved to the snowy Midwest. And promptly encountered freshly open fire roasted chestnuts at an Olde Tyme Christmas celebration. Outdoors in the snow. She loved hers. I tried, but had to spit out mine. Never could develop the taste for them. Not that year, nor subsequent years.

Moral of the story:
Chestnuts: if you didn’t eat them as a child, they are simply disgusting in all respects.

Well, seeing as how we grew up less than a hundred miles apart, you understand my ignorance

I’m guessing you are right. I’ll probably try them again because I really do want to like them. Hubs and I like different things and don’t often both say ICK over something, but they don’t grow in WV either.

Ask Roomie for one next time they are eating them and report back, please.

Stuffing?

And from my morning post to a late-night final; I have been remiss today, so copious apologies and I’ll try to do better. That said, except for the short shopping trip and sammich acquisition this morning, some gym time (with less workout and more rest periods) this afternoon, and obtaining a Wendy’s Double with fries for my evening repast, it has been a rather slow (along with cloudy and cold) day here in N. Ali-Bama.

Did call my brother and cleared coming to visit for Thanksgiving, getting much discussion out of him is hard, we try to steer clear of politics and he’s got a family to be concerned about, but still try to go and see him during the holidays.

And now there is much reading to be done, so best be about it.

red, I also have a PCP meeting tomorrow, mostly to get my prescriptions renewed, but I have a couple of questions for him and maybe request a referral to a urologist.

Knots, that’s a pretty respectable snowfall, hope it melts as fast as it accumulates.

Nellie, glad the dogs were good company, and good news about the kids coming for Thanksgiving. As for the Doc, I get my fluids collected during my physical, never had to get them done early. But if them’s the rules…

FCM, don’t have a card but do have a couple of e-mails showing my appointment for tomorrow. Guess we both see the medicos tomorrow.

Dicey, waiting on your report on the Luxembourg eggnog. Happy Bloodletting!

52!!. Great to see you around and about again. My {{hugs}} and condolences for your uncle’s passing, and appropriate cringes over his daughter’s conduct. And never been to N. Michigan in the fall, I imagine it was beautiful. Don’t be a stranger! (well, if you want to be strange, go for it… )

Nut, that committee does not fill me with the greatest of confidence, but I know you will see it through. And never seen the Gavin apple, I am a big fan of the ‘Envy’ apple these days.

JtC, had to look up The King in Yellow (Lovecraft, right?), sounds like he’s worth another visit or two.

FCM, Otis is an inquisitive pup…which also makes him a PITA…you take the good with the bad, I guess…

Bright Tree, sorry for the appointment FUBAR, hopefully they were suitably apologetic about it.

rocky, had never heard of the Polar Bear cam, may have to look that up.

Oopsie, glad the dealerships worked together to help you out. Take care.

Hippie, I spend a lot of time at the gym too, albeit not for the same health issues but the shared goal of watching my weight. Have gone from 46" waist to 40" and can squeeze into Flex-type pants at 38". Nice feeling, isn’t it?

flyboy, well, at least someone believes you are readily employable, hope it all works out for the best (for you at least).

swampy,

You got me beat, I leave my keys behind at least 3-4 times a week.

JtC, sounds like my weather forecast, without snow on the ground here (but it is only 28F outside at present). May see 70F by Firday. As Mooooommm is fond of saying, weather be weird… And never ate a chestnut, I stick with pecans and walnuts.

And that’s it for tonight’s report. See y’all tomorrow,

I got some roasted chestnuts from Trader Joe’s a couple/few years ago. Did not like.
