Which leads me to wonder - why don’t they just credit my account? Or are they hoping people won’t pay attention and won’t do whatever it is they have to do to get the $20?? Or is that cynical of me?

Earlier this afternoon, I was throwing a ball for him from the living room to the den - maybe all of 25’ or so. He got excited, I guess. Came charging back and leapt into my recliner on top of me. Nothing like 60# of drooling hairyness landing in your lap!
