The snow is just starting to melt off, but it’s still damn cold out there.
I got up this morning, had some coffee, read the paper, and then Mr. Taters and I took off with a friend to go get our Christmas tree. A friend of our friend owns a Christmas tree farm, so we went out there and picked a tree out. We even got a bit of a discount from the owner because we’re friends of his friends.
We didn’t just buy the tree though. We also bought a tree ornament and a decoration. The decoration is one of those little old-fashiony village buildings, but it’s all lit up on the inside when you plug it in. It’s a village inn. I’ve got the little building sitting in my fireplace niche and now I’ll have to pull out the rest of the decorations to put up there. We picked out an eight foot Grand Fir for our Christmas tree. I just love the way those trees smell and the needles are a nice, deep glossy green.
On the way home from the tree farm, we stopped at a little BBQ place for lunch. I had the brisket, some awesome baked beans, and fries. The hubby had a platter with chicken and pulled pork, along with the beans and fries. Our friend had the pulled pork BBQ sammich. To keep in the spirit of things I drank some sweet iced tea. It was okay, but it wasn’t nearly as good as the sweet tea I had when I went to a BBQ place in San Antonio.
Tomorrow I need to buy some of that fluffy fake snow stuff from the craft shop. I think I’ll also head to another store to pick up some more tree ornaments. I like to buy ornaments. I buy a few every year, but never get a boxed set. I pick out individual ornaments. I also like to buy old-fashioned Santa Clauses. No, that’s not quite right, more like St. Nicholas style. My nephew threatens to steal them every year. I don’t really have many, just three or four, but two are pretty big. I have some St. Nick ornaments for the tree as well. I actually have quite a mish-mash of ornaments; everything from birdhouses and real-looking birds, little snow globes glitter in them, little wooden ornaments, victorian looking ornaments, pinecones, ceramic ornaments, angels, just a little of everything. Somehow it all comes together and looks like it belongs together. I don’t do tree tinsel though. Just the lights and the ornaments.
Goodness, I’ve blathered on and on. I guess I better start pulling the rest of my Christmas decorations out.
