Where dores the time go? The appliance guy came this afternoon, He flipped the defrost off, told me my 24 year old fridge needed reeplacing and called the landlord. Oh yeah, he mentioned the phrase “fire hazard” Something about the defroster sticking on. I went and bought a new wallet, mine was falling apart. I took a nap, and just woke up, four hours later. Gas here is $2.51
FCM, glad someone got the bilge pumped out. You should hoist a Jolly Rodger on your boat for Talk Like A Pirate Day.
Swampy, sweet aigs. Just don’t go egging anybody’s house with them.
Cello Guy, Jahdra, I feel for you. This is my weekend to work all weekend, so I will be in the same "stuck here while eveybody else goes home " thing.
Hi taxi! Hi scout!
Since everyone but me is headed for the hills, this MMP might degenerate into the dogbutler holds a conversation with The Voices thread. Time for canned food and warm beer!
Taters, you are in luck – Jericho is on Wednesdays at 8, whereas Grey’s Anatomy is on Thursdays at 9. So not only not same time, not same day, either. You can figure out when all the new shows will be on and schedule your life accordingly with this handy dandy webpage.
palebunny and her doggy boyfriend Isaac are continuing their most enjoyable visit. Also the Neurotic One, aka Rusty, but he loves everyone so it’s not quite as special. Today we went to the Amish market for breakfast/lunch (she and I had brekky and Papa T had lunch) and a look round, and we got out without buying the place out although it was a challenge. Then she and Papa T took the idiots for a swim, and then we took her to the fabulous restaurant around the corner for a dinner of crabmeat, crabmeat, and more crabmeat – of which half of both hers and mine is now in the fridge because it was more than any one person’s arteries can handle at one time (not that we didn’t try) – and then she and I did the all-American activity of going to the mall. Well, to two specific stores, actually, and we found what she was looking for, so it was a successful trip. And then we went to the big Borders, where we both exercised a surprising amount of restraint. Shocked even ourselves.
Tomorrow the excitement continues. Aren’t you all waiting with bated breath to find out what thrills we’ll be in for? Well, you’ll have to wait until evening because around here plans are always subject to change.
And on that exciting note, I am going to go put my feet up and read a book. All this excitement has worn me out.
Whew! You miss one day and it takes forever to catch up!
My day involved two doctor’s appointments, with a stop at the dog park in between. I got a shot in the butt at the first doctor’s, then had blood drawn (from the back of my hand) and a booster vaccine (in the arm.) And tonight I took my weekly interferon shot in my belly. I feel like a pin cushion!
It was fun at the dog park. Temps have cooled a little and it was only in the mid 80’s at 9:30 am. Lucy loves to swim. And I’m constantly amazed at how 20+ dogs can all get along and play. Lots of fun to watch!
Purty aigs, Swampus. I guess you’re not too old to remember stuff!
WheeledKidCarrierPerson, I’m glad today was a bit easier on you.
I fixed fried chicken, smashed NOTs, cream gravy, and little baby peas for dinner. Even the dogs got some. Much enjoyment was had by all.
Good Morning! [sub]morning[/sub] [sub] [sub]morning [/sub] [/sub] [sub] [sub] [sub]morning [/sub] [/sub] [/sub] It’s a cool and clear Saturday morning. I am having coffee, and will do laundry and recycling shortly.
Rebo, twenty dogs? At my dog park we get 100+ on weekends.
So, I’m just finishing breakfast. I have just now officially cooked on my new stove for the first time! Much better than the old stove - easier to regulate. Knobs work differently from the old stove, so when I thought I’d turned the burner off, it was actually way low. Guess I’ll have to pay attention.
First item cooked: Mexican scrambled eggs. Yum. (Basically, you sautee salsa and then add the eggs. They come out a little bit pink and very tasty.)
Need to figure out what all to stock up on today. The freezer only contains nuts and one can of frozen limeade. Oh, and one tray of ice cubes. Need to go to TJs for frozen veggies, pasta, tamales, chicken, shrimp and scallops. Also need to stop by the Mexican grocery for tortillas and frozen sofrito.
We’ll see what else inspires me.
I was thinking I’d go up to the park and walk around and then stop by for groceries on the way home.
I slept until 8:30 this morning. Trust me that’s shocking. Usually seven is considered late for me. We just had breakfast. Scrambled aigs (not the metal ones), sausage, grits and toast. I’m either going to go hang out by the pool for a bit or go back to sleep. My sinuses kinda hurt so I’m inclined towards some Benadryl[sup]TM[/sup] and sleepy bye.
ACBG and I are going to a dinner thingy tonight. I’m bringing a baked rice casserole that’s nummy. It consists of rice (duh!), beef broth, onions, bell pepper and 'shrooms. Tis a tasty side dish.
I hate night terrors. The wife has them on occasion… The last time, we were still in the first apartment in Hampton, and she woke up screaming that people were trying to break through the bedroom closet door.
Last night, we watched Stargate, and shut off the lights. About 11:30, she’s shaking me hard,
“What?”
“Maddy’s dead.”
“Huh?!?” since the dog was between us, I reached down. Her belly was a bit cool, but I felt a pulse and respiration. She, of course, thinks it’s a gift from Og himself, a midnight belly rub. The critter snorts twice and lets out a belch. Bulldogs are dainty like that.
“Whatever made you think the dog was dead?” :dubious:
“Well, I’m SOOOOOOORY!”, rolls over, and goes back to sleep. Meanwhile, I’m up for a while from the adrenaline rush.
I just got back from pitching two big tents for the fire department Shrimp Feast tonight. When I walked in, it was obvious that Maddy was never told she had assumed room temperature.
Yawn Morning all. It’s 10:30 here, unfortunately I have to get up this early today because I must get to a bank before they close at noon to deposit the rent / utility checks my roommates gave me last week. Who decides these crazy bank hours anyway?
My plans today are rather mundane, either watch Mansfield Park (never read the novel, but my sister assures me that the movie is filled with great sideburns), or Sense & Sensibility, and then head to a local used book store to pick up the remaining leather bound Goethe books.
Bobbio, maybe your wife is right about the bedroom closet. I have to poke Maggie sometimes, the difference between dead and nap time for her is the level of decomposition.
gt, I’m still waiting for the fridge. I don’t care if it is old or new, just as long as it works.
My husband occasionally has night terrors. Nothing quite like being woken up in the middle of the night with him hitting me and screaming. I manage to calm him down, and he’s back to sleep, out like a light (with barely any memory of anything happening the next morning) and I get to lay there are freak out and have trouble getting back to sleep. No wonder I’m an insomniac!
More good news:
My husband got a job offer, for his dream job. Great pay and benefits and working in exactly the field that interests him. The slight downside is that the transit commute sucks, but the upside of that is that his dad, who has been trying to unload his car onto us so he could buy a new one for years now, is ready to unload his car on us. And since I will be getting a formal job offer next week too, we are quite happy! 2 cars, double income, no kids. Being DINKS is great!
I’m sleeping again. Always a good thing. I wake up a lot to cough, but I have been managing to fall back to sleep, so YAY!
It’s a gorgeous day out. Once we both get the geek out of us and get off the computers, we’ll probably head out and explore the Plateau a little more.
Mr. Taters is (of course) a perceptive and discerning person. Oh, and nice, too.
Back from grocery shopping, round one. Got the tortillas (and some Mexican cheese, which I like better than Monterey Jack). Got most of the frozen stuff on my list, although they were out of scallops, except in a seafood mix that included calamari and shrimp. I like calamari, but I’ve never cooked it and didn’t feel inspired today. Maybe next time.
Now I’m off to Wild Oats for yogurt, bread, and possibly other stuff.
doggio, by “new” I meant “new to you.” My main criterion for satisfaction with appliances is “it works.”
So, I feel like I’m visiting someone else’s house when I open the fridge. Wonder how long that will last.
Hubby is off getting his ears lowered and renewing his CDL. Before he can renew, he has to take the HAZMAT test.
We were supposed to go out to dinner with some friends tonight, but they had to cancel the dinner because their son has a weapons presentation in tai kwon do and since it’s his first, he has to be there. Our friends felt really bad and still want to get together after the tai kwon do thingie, we’ll see how it goes and where we end up.
Oh well. When hubby returns I’ll ask him where he wants to go and make the reservations. I’m thinking of this restaurant out in Yelm. They serve awesome food. But, I want to make sure he wants to go there before I make any sort of reservations.
I should finish my toilette. Hah! I’m getting all fancy. I’ve showered and dressed, but I need to dry my hair and fix my face.
mnem, my husband used to get the night terrors too, but his eyes would be wide open. I’d have to calm him down as well. However, one time he scared the ever-livin’ shit out of me. I woke up to him sitting on top of me on the bed as he was trying to strangle me. He was having some horrible nightmare. It took some doing, but I somehow managed to flip him off me and onto the floor. He kinda konked his head on the way down. This finally woke him up. He didn’t know what the hell was going on. I told him and he felt horrible. I was so freaked out I couldn’t sleep the rest of the night and it took me several more nights to even feel comfortable again.
Fortunately, the night terrors have stopped for him. He hasn’t had them in several years now. Thank goodness.
Everyone’s so busy today…and me doing nothing productive at all…
Carl the Brick Guy came today and we picked out the brick for the little patio/porch like thing we’re putting in front, next to the driveway. It’s a little (15 x 10 maybe) space that we didn’t feel like planting anything on, so this will let us drop a couple chairs there and enjoy the nieghbors.
Last night, we had the make believe 50th birthday celebration for our friend Mike. It’s make believe because tonight is the genuine, surprise party for him. He’s got some of his family, and some of hos wife’s flying in from far-off lands. Ought to be fun.
So, with that, it’s off to shower and get ready to yell surprise and stuff like that.
Bigyellowkidtransporterguy don’t yell surprise too loud now. Remember he’s fifty and eligible for AARP. You’ll either scare him to death or he’ll get real mad and hit you over the head with his cane while yellin’ at you to get off’n his lawn.
Oooh, cool idea with the make-believe party, MBG. Hope you have fun! (And hope he enjoys the surprise.)
I’ve been grazing on various and sundry acquisitions from today’s shopping: fresh figs, cookies, chocolate, triscuits.
I got new saucepans for the kitchen today. I’ve been using a couple of my mom’s old Revereware pans and they’re getting tired. So, to go with the stove, we now have nice stainless steel/aluminum core pans. They’re not a matched set because when I looked at prices, I decided it wasn’t worth it. So I got 3 coordinating pans at TJMaxx and spent about 1/3 of what I would have spent elsewhere.
Also got a new cabinet to go alongside the fridge. Technically it’s a bathroom cabinet, but I thought it would work in the kitchen because it was the right dimensions. I’ll be acquiring different knobs for the drawers and door and it’ll fit right in, I think.
Guess I should start putting it together. I’m thinking I’ll semi-watch a movie while I do that.
Hope everyone’s having a lovely Saturday. (I’m totally jealous of you, Drae!)
