MMP - The Fire Within

Oh god! I just read that again! Bwahahaha, that does sound um, rather naughty but sad at the same time, doesn’t it? That wouldn’t make him a very happy camper now, would it?

First batch of danish pastry is done. I should knead the bread. It’s cherry danish this time.

I’ve made lentil soup, sesame beef noodley stuff, and two batches of danish pastry so far, and now I’m working on a couple loaves of bread. Today is all productive.

Because many consider LI to be the heart of NY–you know, Manhattan and all that…

This may be a go, because I have some leftover sausage. What is this “veggie” of which you speak?

Nope. Busy day is all. My desktop guy was trying to transfer my phone and email services over to my new blackberry, and he crashed my laptop. He fiddled with it for half an hour or so, and I finally got tired of watching him, so I kicked him out of my office and fixed it myself. But my new blackberry still wasn’t set up, so he had to come back to finish up. But the new blackberry wasn’t activating properly, and my contacts didn’t populate to the new phone. So I kicked him out of my office again, and tried to fix it myself. By that time, I was pretty agitated, as I had spent way too much time messing around with what should not have cost me any time at all. Plus I couldn’t seem to fix it. I built and implemented the Blackberry Server, but I don’t know much about actually setting up the phones themselves. So, I asked him to finish the job, and he did so, at his own desk, and it worked out fine in the end. My question (I have not asked him this - probably won’t) is: Why didn’t he take the goddamn phone in the first place, instead of wasting three hours of my time?!?

Long story short, my free cycles, which I could have spent posting to the SDMB, or otherwise indulging myself, were spent dealing with my desktop guy and his endless string of time-wasters.

I’ve recently found out that crazy people really like me!

The OCD lady asks for me by name when she shows up! That’s a thrill, listening to her ramble through the same story over and over again. But she’s fairly benign as long as I catch her early and de-rail her onto a useful train of thought. (Shut up! What do you want!?!)

Yesterday a was verbally… well, not “attacked”, more “relentlessly browbeaten” by this… woman who didn’t want to shell out all the bucks she owed for services rendered. That was exciting.

Then there’s the Rat Lady. She has these rats, see. Now she’s trying to sell us some “rat hammocks” or some such that we can, in turn, sell to other people. People with rats I expect. I had to tell her “no”. I was fairly polite about it.

Then there’s the Yellow Book guy. He wants us to buy Yellow Book (not “Yellow Pages”- they are Other People) ads. (Because he works on commission.) I had to tell him “no” too. But since he’s not a client, I didn’t have to be so much the polite. (But I was anyway because I’m nice that way.)

Not a crazy person, but there was a nut-job Pug we had to trim the nails of. No one died, no one was even bitten, and I didn’t have to actually choke the dog into unconsciousness to get the job done. (He did auto-express his anal glands (fun!) and pooped all over the exam table.)

It’s like working in the Lollipop Forrest with magical dancing pixies! (Or some danged thing.)

Actually it’s a pretty good gig on average. There are a lot of really nice (or at least benign) people that come through the place.

Harvard University got back to me about an hour ago - I’ve been invited in for a Round 2 Interview! Happy DAY! The hiring manager told me money might be an issue (I’m at the very top of the pay scale they have to work in). I’ll be really heartbroken if they offer me a couple thousand less than I make now and I have to turn them down. Wish me luck! I couldn’t make the interview time they proposed, so I’m not sure what day I’m going back. Probably Wednesday morning.

Where’s my lamp?

Harvard?

Guess I’ll start calling you Mr Winny, I mean, Smitty!

And I don’t like our phone guy either–well, I don’t like our phones. He can’t get them to work the way we want them to and he bitches the whole time he’s on the unit.

Sorry about your blackberry. Next time, get a blueberry.

<haw!>

Leg o’ Lamp

So, how’s this work? Do I just tell them to charge it to the SDMB MMP, or do I get reimbursed?

Yes. I hate the blackberry. I had the 7100, which I disliked less than any of the others I’ve had, but now I’ve got the 8700, which is the wide one (the form factor I don’t like). Oh well. Look at me - complaining about a free blackberry.

is officially scheduled for ednesday afternoon!

W00t!

hmmmm, what do you think of this little number?? It’s colorful and sparkly and everything!! Or maybe a chandelier? Not as classy as mine was, but still, a stunner…

No, I know this is what you really want, isn’t it? Well, from me, the best you’ll do is that handful of tea lights. But I promise if I hit the lottery, I’ll buy you whatever lamp you want.

Dang, I got beat to it… stoopid multiple codes.

Congrats on the Hahvahd interview! Don’t expect me to call you sir or anything.

Chopped spinach works well, diced onion and diced red and green peppers are traditional - chopped tomato is nice too

Now I should clean up from the fun cooking hijinks, because a friend (not Quasi-Daughter) is coming over this evening. If it were Quasi-Daughter, I’d just leave everything, and rest secure in the knowledge that she will clean up my mess for me.

I don’t feel motivated. Maybe after a cup of tea.

The danish (should it be plural when I just make a long strudel-like roll?) is delicious, and better than last time. I took some to work half an hour ago and was smothered with gratitude.

Oh, no–I couldn’t possibly.

And we are too getting your snow!

Well, maybe not YOUR snow, but snow nonetheless–we’re having snow showers here.
Just put together a paper castle with my second grader–we had found the partially done kit when we cleaned out the basement, so we finished. He is busy jousting in the other room.

I love kids.

Goodness. A guy goes to class and misses all the fun. Well. Yeah, there really aren’t girls around. That early morning gym thing is worth a shot though. I’ll keep it in mind, thanks. Yeah, Russell Sage College is down the hill, but the religious organizations are the only thing that link the two schools, and I am supremely irreligious.

I’m hoping for a ton of snow this weekend. There’s been a depressing lack of winter this winter.

Not snowing here yet, but we’re being threatened with 4-8". We’re kinda close to the rain line, so we might just get sleet/freezing rain. There’s a happy thought…

See? This is why I know I am a mutant–I love sleet and freezing rain–admittedly I love them from the warm and dry embrace of my easy chair with a fire, book and hot tea, but still. I also like to go for walks in sleet.

There is nothing like coming in from raw weather to a nice, cozy hearth–gemutlichtkeit. (sorry, I have no umlaut )
