I would just like to state for the record that I DO NOT dance. Ever. Fortunately, neither does KeithT, and we’re both very relieved about this.
Busy weekend in taxiland. Friday I made fudge to use as my grab bag gift for our office holiday party. Saturday I made meatballs for another party that’s this Thursday and cookies for a concert at my church on Friday (I won’t have time during the week for cooking).
Then Saturday night was the office holiday party at a REALLY nice downtown restaurant. I don’t usually go to these parties, but this is one of those places that I’d never go on my own (can’t afford to!) so I wanted to check it out. Lots and lotsa really good food. CHEESE! I love cheese. And a really really rich chocolate cake-like thing for dessert. And people getting wasted which was quite funny. And we got our present from the company - a nice ski jacket kinda thing that can also be a fleese jacket, a fleese vest, a windbreaker or the ski jacket if it’s all together. Mine’s got zipper problems but other than that it’s cool. And I got lotto tickets as the grab bag gift… but only won $2. Oh well. Oh and I got someone else’s leftovers in my doggie bag instead of mine!
Then yesterday the friends that I was cat sitting for took me to see The Nutcracker as a thank-you. It was very well done.
So a very busy weekend, but I still found some time to relax. Which is good because I’m going to be out Tuesday, Thursday and Friday this week. I like the holiday season. So much going on!
It’s supposed to snow here today, and I couldn’t be more excited. Mainly because when the kids get out of school, I get a free holiday. Snow is goooooooooooood!
Welby, splendid job, mate. I don’t care what they say about you, I still think you’re OK.
Gotta run. They are paving my street, so I have to drag my book bag out to where my car is parked, at least a mile away (ok, maybe 2 blocks). And it’s cold this morning, maybe 40 degrees . Sorry, east coasters, I kid but it’s all with love.
Did I hear some dancing going on in here? Well count me in!

No, I don’t know how to dance. No, I don’t let that stop me. Apologies to anyone whose toes I may have pressed (har har!) into service as a temporary floorboard.
My weekend was … interesting. On Saturday I went to The Concert That Ate Cincinnati. It started at 1 pm and (with a 50 minute break at 3 pm and a 90 minute break at 6 pm), lasted until nine pm. It was a showcase of all the student groups in the Rensselaer Music Association: 3 a cappella groups, 4 ensembles, 2 symphonic groups, 2 brass groups, 2 choirs, and a partridge in a pear tree. Fortunately, by bringing my laptop and sitting in the back, I was able to complete my application to Cornell while I took notes on the concert for the campus newspaper.
And then yesterday I was up until 3 am working graduate-level problems in electrodynamics. Whoo. At least there’s snow on the ground.
Herman and Lily are thriving - welby, my Herman is an abandoned kitten I’m bottle raising, it wasn’t a comment on your dancing skills. I’m not nearly brave enough to do that. Took them out into the front yard yesterday for a photo session - got lots of close-ups 'cause they kept running back to me. I guess the big wide world is a bit scary when you’re so tiny. I have to make a run to Petsmart this morning for another canister of formula powder.
It’s raining and I really don’t want to go out but I can’t let the furbabies get hungry.
Awesome job on the OP, Welby! …and I would not knee you in the groin for stepping on my toes. Thanks for the fling around the dance floor. Do you have some ice packs for my toes?
The tree did not get decorated yesterday. I got the lights up on the tree, but that was all. I was running all around town doing errands and buying stuff, so it was going on dinner time when I got home yesterday. I made dinnner, and then the hubby wanted to play WoW . So, we ran an instance and played until around 8:00 pm. It took awhile to get the damn lights on the tree and I just didn’t feel like doing the ornaments after that. So, I just went to bed.
Well, I best get some work done. I’ll check in later.
While the rest of you are dancing, SOME OF US HAVE TO WORK!!
I’m about to leave the house to drive to the New Job. Orientation is from 9-12. I’m a little nervous, because I haven’t been a new employee for over six years! Hopefully my desk setup will be okay, and hopefully I’ll be able to surf at lunch. I suspect I’ll be pretty busy at this job, so you’ll probably notice my participation goes down a bit around here.
I’ve been tromped and withered by Welby! Whatta way to start the week!
Well, bobbio is here in the Bluegrass and I haven’t seen hide nor hair o’ him. He is staying on Pink Pigeon Parkway, though–always a good sign. If ya wanna know the truth, though, the place where he is was, until about 8 years ago, a rolling gorgeous horse farm. Now it’s Shopping Hell known as Hamburg Pavillion, located on the aforementioned Hamburg farm. Or what was Hamburg. Now all is left is vestages such as Pink PIgeon Parkway, Pink Pigeon being the name of one of their racehorses.

There was way too much Wal-Mart this weekend. I got to be cussed out by a guy because I wouldn’t honor his competitor’s ad price (there was a Brookshire’s Savers Card gimmick or some such nonsense.) This was because he couldn’t save a total of 80 cents on his TV dinners.
I swear that I’m going to make a list of how to not be a crappy customer, and leave it posted everywhere.
And jayjay, why are you never on AIM? You don’t know how long you’ve been on my buddy list.

Cincinnati? Rensselaer? I always thought that they were in two different states. Especially since you referenced electrodynamics.
welby and FCM are you guys getting all the snow? By the time it gets to me, it’s just rain. Thanks, once again, to the Chesapeake Bay. And they’re calling for a mix of snow and rain for those follks in Vunderbob’s area.
I filled up 15 bags of leaves Saturday, and put a new pfaucet in the kitchen yesterday. Only had to make one trip to the hardware store for hoses too. I’m getting back into the swing of things for home improvement. Of course, I wouldn’t be doing a lot of things around the house if there was a decent tavern (as in serves Yuengling beer) close to the house.
Saturday was Chainsaw Day for us. A fried who owns a chainsaw, and is pretty skilled with it came over and diced up the ugly trees. He also helped us yank out the tribbles and triffids that were planted by the original owner of the house in a severly misguided attempt at “xeriscaping.” If I ever meet this person, I’m going to give them a good kick in the ass. I’ve got size 14 feet, so it will be a good kick. Seriously, this was the ugliest yard on the street, filled with stuff that looked like it wanted to be tumbleweeds when it grew up, and other scraggly scrubby stuff. Unless there was some sort of water conservation incentive back then, I can’t imagine why anyone would want to do that.
We now have a pile of firewood to be dried, and vast open areas in the front yard that will be filled with grass next spring. Of course, before we can do that, we need to grind/dig out the stumps. Before we can do that, we need to call for a “USA” plot of the underground utilities so we don’t grind a hole in the gas or electric lines that are running under the yard. That would be a bad thing.
I had a try at making pumpkin soup yesterday. Rather disappointing, actually. The recipe starts with peeling and dicing a pumpkin, and oven-roasting it. How do you peel a pumpkin? It wasn’t bad soup - it was just uninteresting. Perhaps I’ll try a different recipe that starts with the canned stuff, or I’ll cook another pumpkin like an acorn or spaghetti squash and scoop out the then-soft flesh. I still have three smallish pumpkins left over from Halloween / Thanksgiving decoration.
At least the cooked-all-day pot roast came out well.
Bobbio is stayin’ on <snerk> Pink Pigeon Parkway! <snerk> Is he staying at the <snerk> Pink Pigeon Inn? <snerk>
We just had a severe thunderstorm warning. I took the opportunity to use it as a drill. Everybody did good. Went where they were supposed to and everything. Ok, it was really an actual event where we are supposed to take cover. It’s just good to know that folks will actually do it when given the alarm to take cover. It’s rainy and icky today. Tommorrow I’ll be where it’s snowy and icky. It’s an icky weather week for me.
I had yesterday Sunday dinner leftovers for lunch today. BBQ poke chops, field peas, mac & cheese and corn bread. It was just as good today as it was yesterday. YUMMM!
A thunderstorm drill? Is your building made of paper? I’m from the Midwest - no slouch in storms - and we never had to run and hide from thunderstorms if we were already inside. Tornados, on the other hand…
As we all know, severe thunderstorms often spawn tornadoes. Therefore, when the warning sounds we go to the safe areas of the buildings until the all clear is given. Also, there had been a history of possible tornadoes with this storm cell. One was spotted, though apparently it didn’t touch down, about 15 miles away. We’re all about safety first here. Just the way we are.
Actually, with the torrential rains we’re having, I’m more worried about localized flooding. It’s so flat around here it doesn’t take much to turn my six mile ride home into a thirty mile ride because of flooding. This happens a couple of times a year after lots and lots of rain.
Sean cold and windy Wyoming is getting some of the snow aswell. I just checked with the windchill it is 1 American degree outside
Anyways as I know everyone takes such a keen interest in my life …you may or may not remember but almost 10 weeks ago I was in a car wreck in my 2 1/2 week old brand spanking new car. I finally get my car back on Wednesday :D:D:D:D:D:D
Ahhh… So it’s really more of a tornado drill. That makes a little more sense.
A few years ago, there was a tiny tornado here. People just didn’t know what to make of it.
<local yokels> “It sounded like a train!” “It was hella windy!” etc…
<newscasters> “We’re not really sure what happened here.”
I saw the picture of a bashed-up cul-de-sac, and thought “You morons! It was a tornado!” Yes, definitely a freak occurrence for the area, but still, who hasn’t seen The Wizard of Oz, or even Twister?
