Yes! Thank you! Those will do very nicely. Do you think a similar idea would work for feet covers too? They’ve grown out of their socks, they have shoes. I was thinking if they could have fleecy things on their feet it would be warmer than shoes with no socks for now, and they could use the foot warmers later for slippers. They just need to be able to get from house to babysitter’s car and back and stay warm for now.
They’d work as footies as long as one didn’t try to walk in them. I think fleece would be way too slippery…
That’s what I was wondering about myself. Well, as long as they had fleecy covers for feet and ankles that’s what would count. I’m not sure how I’d get them to be high enough to cover ankles, it would require another seam and an extra part I’d think. The baby sitter’s house is warm, so they can go barefoot there. Send some good vibes the father’s way, he’s really wrenching his shoulders and praying the bootstraps don’t give. I wish I could do more. I think bringing them warm wraps will be enough. He feels horrible as it is, and is putting the children first. If I had lots of money I’d be taking them clothes shopping tonight, but I don’t. We didn’t realize it had gotten so bad, he lost his job right as both little ones hit growth spurts, got another one in time to keep food and utilities, but is having to scrape by with mostly fall weight clothes for himself for now, the kids have winter clothes, excluding outerwear and socks. (Until I get those ponchos etc. made, hopefully tonight, or tomorrow. Depends on if the lady is free who will loan me her sewing machine tonight.) We hadn’t seen him for a month or two due to some upheaval in his life which seemed best to stay clear of so as not to exacerbate things.
Adding, the kiddos have fall outerwear, I’m thinking with fleecy ponchos over that it would do to get them from the house to the car and back, wouldn’t it?
::Glides onto the floor with grace normally seen only in…giraffes?::
Sorry for any slightly bruised toes. That was me assisting Puggy in nudging Taters out onto the floor, I must admit. I think we should make this an all-week dance party!!! ::Triple steps her way into the next paragraph, almost without stumbling.::
That pumpkin and black bean soup sounds yummy, Ellen. And me with a pumpkin just sitting there waiting to be used. I’ve actually microwaved both squashes and pumpkins before when I’m using them in recipes. Works quite well.
Extremely cool monitor, cb. So sad I’m too poor (and too cheap) to get one just now.
I won’t be here for Christmas either, so I’m still contemplating what to do in the way of decorations. Might put a little tree up and have the niece and nephew help with the decorating. Sounds like your snowy fireplace idea should work, Taters. Of course, I’m not particularly crafty either, so what do I know?
Hey rigs, how old is your daughter? What’s she interested in? I’m pretty much getting books for most people this year. My brother is getting The Complete Calvin and Hobbes, which weighs approximately one ton. (They just delivered it today and I about pulled my back out moving it off the porch and into the living room). So glad the shipping was free.
Oh, and zabali - good on you for doing something to help! I think the ponchos should work just fine for short distances. Also, don’t know where you live, but around here there are lots of places that collect warm outerwear for families who can’t afford winterwear. There may be more possibilities than the Salvation Army for helping them out with clothing.
Well, happy Monday everyone!
GT…dancing off to do more laundry
I’ll be arriving at work a little late tomorrow. I’ve been asked to attend a breakfast with the post commander in his quarters tomorrow morning. I thought it sounded kinda neat (even if there is probably a bunch of stupid protocol involved), and said I’d go. I had to fill out a bio so it could be sent to him. Yeah, like he’s really going to spend a lot of time jawing with me. I’m sure there will be many other people there and he won’t get to talking to me. Still and all, I kinda think it’s an honor, so I’m happy to attend. My boss called me at home last Friday afternoon, and was supposed to give more info today. All I know is I need to be at General’s quarters by 7:45 a.m.
I just read Mr. Taters the OP and some of the responses to it. He thought it was pretty funny.
I’m thinkin’ red beans and rice with slices of smoked sauge for dinner tonight. Then I’ll finish (I hope) decorating the tree.
My son officially becomes a teenager on Wednesday, 7 December. It’s kinda funny, because he looks older than 13. He’s got a moustache, he’s very tall, and has a very deep voice. His moustache isn’t full on thick, but it’s very noticable and dark. It’s not just a thin little line either. I keep telling the hubby that he’s going to have to introduce our son to a razor and teach him how to shave.
I guess I better check my Dryel dry cleaning. I figured I’d wear my suit tomorrow.
Laters…
Spam, spam, spam, spam,Tuesday, spam and spam.
:smack: D’oh!
That was supposed to be my Reaction thread for the Tuesday comic on the Sluggy boards. I knew that was bound to happen one day.
Move along now, nothing to see here. I’ll be back in a minute to tell you about my Korean green onion pancakes that I made for dinner.
I knew I was asking for trouble some day by having two message boards open at one time. I knew I would eventually post something to the wrong board. I should have noticed that I did not have an option to make the thread sticky and the emoticons were all wrong. Oh well, c’est la vie.
Anyway, I was going to tell you about the Korean pancakes I made for dinner but I already posted about them here. They were pretty good but I think I need to work on refining the recipe a bit and I need some kim-chee.
Baked beans are off.
OK, this cracks me up. I’m not any kind of authority on etiquette and stuff, but in a social situation, even a business-social situation, isn’t that what small talk is for? You find out those fascinating tidbits??
You send a bio to Jay Leno so he can zero in on the good stuff for TV. Otherwise, you chat someone up, right?
Sorry, it’s early and I’m crabby. I woke up way early (like 2:30) because the power was clicking on and off and it freaked out the dog. Then I turned on the TV to see what the snow situation was, then finally logged on to check base status. We’re open as usual. No late start. Bummer. So I may as well hit the shower now. Even tho my alarm won’t go off for 7 more minutes or so.
Stoopit snow.
Have fun with the general, Taters! Maybe you could send him a bogus bio and hilarity would surely ensue!
I just knew that Pink Pigeon Parkway was <snerk> worthy. Swampio, you didn’t disappoint me.
The first time I heard the name I had visions of a parade of very gullible members of the feather boa crowd. Then it morphed into Pink Panther Parkway, and it was Inspector Clouseau instead.
Ellen, sorry I couldn’t meet up with you. I was busy interviewing until almost 4, and went straight to the airport.
Had an interesting experience on the way back. I, the second biggest guy on the plane, had to sit next to the Biggest guy. And he was bigger than I was before I had my guts replumbed. Oh, did I mention that this was also on a commuter plane, not a proper domestic airliner? Glad I’m not claustrophobic…
I’m waiting patiently to hear something from the interview… <drums fingers nervously>
Good Morning Y’all! Just checkin’ in before I go off flyin’ to Detroit. I’ll be leaving home around nine. The great thing about flying out of Albeeny is checking into security at an itty bitty airport. Much better than going through security in Etlanner, let me tell ya! The temperature in Detroit right now is 19 degreesF with a wind chill factor of 2. Snow showers are predicted for the afternoon but no flight delays are expected. There better not be. My colleague from Arizona and I are due to arrive at about the same time, so that’ll make hooking up, getting the car and going to the hotel good.
Have a happy rest of the week everybody! If’n I gets a chance I’ll sneak in a time or two from Detroit.
This post is probably a little late, but I had to say something about those thumbless mitten hand-bag things.
I thought they were a pretty good idea until I saw a pair on my neice at Thanksgiving. Perhaps she’s just easily frustrated, but on her fourth attempt to pick something up and discovering that her thumbs still didn’t work properly she got positively enraged.
I thought her head was going to spin around, but all she did was tear them off with her teeth and fling them as far as she could.
We’ll miss you! Stay warm and wear your hatty thing.
zabali, could you check with some local churches for donated clothing? We also donate to the AMVETS if you’d rather go for a more secular route. I just hate thinking about those poor little ones not properly dressed…and Dad too.
fcm, I keep saying I’m gonna get one a those trees-inna-box that you just pull up and, wallah!, you gots a Xmas tree. OTOH, maybe just declaring grinchhood would be easier.
That’s all I got for now.
Tupug
Ex old buddy, it might be time to dust off the tools, we’ve got a revolution happening overseas. If the Russians link up with the underground over here, it’ll be bad news.
Ya know… you could tie a rope around the old air conditioners (I think the barrel hitch would work nicely) and lower them carefully and gently down off the balcony. That way you don’t have to carry them down the stairs. Just a thought.
When a cat has a cyst on the side of its face and said cyst gets removed and then you have to put a “drain” in the incision… it looks really gross.
What’s all this hostility towards the snow FCM? Snow is good stuff! Unless you don’t get off from work, I guess. Which I didn’t.
Of course, it’s my fault there wasn’t enough snow. If I’d remembered to wear my snowflake patterned bannana hammock yesterday we’d have had another 3 or 4 inches.*
I’ll try to remember next time.
Of snow. Perverts.
And, of course, there’s the added bonus that you can “accidentally” drop them anyway. At least you’ll look like a responsible adult, even if you’re not.
