MNF is on ESPN

I recently moved to Rochester, NY from Detroit, MI. What does that have to do with Monday Night Football you ask? Well, following the announcement of the move, the local news here covered the story and everyone interviewed said this was a good move. I don’t like to call people names but that is idiotic. Now you have to subscribe to a provider if you want to watch what we have been watching for free… dummy. Maybe my opinion is only shared by people from Detroit. I refuse to become a Rochestarian and I’m definitely not a New Yorker. GO PISTONS!

I can’t imagine getting worked up about what network does the broadcasting. I guess it’s an inconvenience if you don’t get ESPN, but how many football fans don’t get that network anyway?

Previously, you would’ve needed that subscription to get the Sunday Night ESPN game. Now NBC will be carrying it, and will also be getting the choice game via the new flex-schedule.

All in all, I prefer things the way they currently are, but you’ll still be getting the same amount of football and theoretically a better game under the new system.

Don’t knock Rochester, I love… err… like it. Yeah, that’s it.

But if there’s one thing Rochesterians love it’s their cable. Almost everybody has cable, it’s just a fact of life.

Monday Night Football will be hosted by the Demonic Trinity of Mike Tirico, Joe Theismann, and Tony Kornheiser.

And I won’t be rushing out to get a subscription either. I still can’t believe that one guy on the news that said it was a “good fit”. I say cooking should be a sport. :stuck_out_tongue:

Monday night football is still on broadcast TV, it’s just on Sunday night now. (Al and John both moved over).

Mute-N-Watch Football is on Monday Night, with the fresh hell known as Joe Theismann and friends.

I love Kornheiser and like Tirico, but I’m not sure it will be enough to make up for Theismann.

The only way I would in be in an enclosed space with Joe Theismann would be if I had a gun and a promise of immunity from prosecution.

Gotta admit, putting Theisman and Kornheiser in the same booth should be either terrific or horrific.

Only time will tell.

I’ll be keeping an ongoing count of the times Tony insults Theisman without Theisman knowing it. I think it’ll be a fun broadcast, in spite of Joe Theisman.

The downside is that Tony will be leaving his radio show as a result of this new gig.

:::Andy wonders if he should change his screen name:::

You say that like it is a good thing. Both of them need to be put out to pasture and the sooner the better. ABC got the better of the deal, getting a cartoon rabbit in exchange for Michaels.

I dream of locking Theisman down in a room, like in A Clockwork Orange - with his eyelids propped open and making him watch LT take out his knee in an endless looping reel. Ah hell, I bet he still wouldn’t shut up, would he?

I’d rather prop his ears open and make him listen to himself in an endless looping reel.

Oh, come on now. Say what you will about Al and John, but I’d take them for the rest of my life over 10 minutes of the Mike Patrick/Joe Theismann horror that was Sunday night last season.

Dammit, that was a respone to ZamboniRacer.

I don’t have cable/satellite, I’ve never seen a sunday night game. Now I won’t be able to see monday, but see sunday. I prefer sunday because they start earlier (I think) and I might get to see the end of the game. Staying up until 11:30pm CST to watch a game is nuts. But I only watch if it’s my team playing (GB) and since they are starting to suck, they won’t be on anyway. So to me it’s a wash, and no big deal. If they ever put the Super Bowl on cable, now that will suck. I don’t think they will though.

Understood.

I love Mr. Tony, but he seems to be a bad fit for MNF. He must be the irreverant one, but that would make Theisman the serious one. Theisman is not that good.

Tirico, as with everything, will be exceptional.

But I could care less. I usually am kind of “footballed out” by Monday. I only watch when I have a fantasy player going Monday and need the points to win.

As long as Tony doesn’t leave PTI, I will be happy.

He won’t. They said recently that Wilbon and Tony will do PTI on the road.

Of note is that like Madden, Tony is afraid to fly, so he’s going to get a decked out bus. (Reportedly, it will be “bigger than the Madden Cruiser.”)

Also, I see the cable-less complaint about not getting all the games, but in fairness you will get all your local games on free television. (Not much help for a Lions fan in Rochester, but who cares about Lions fans, really? Hasn’t it been 40+ years since their last playoff win?)

For example, all the Jets and Giants Sunday Night ESPN games were simulcast here in the tri-state area on channels 9 or 11. (Which are merging.) The NFL is very deliberate about broadcasting all (sold out) games on free tv to the local markets of the teams playing, much to their credit.
