How do mods get assigned to forums? I just noticed that IMHO has five guard dogs, while the Pit only has two. I would think forums like the Pit, GD and GQ would require more policing than Cafe Society or IMHO.
First, we try them out in IMHO. If they’re good, we upgrade them to GQ
Serious answer: Our regular IMHO folk are on leave, so we temporarily added a few to cover for them. Mod assignments are by request and consensus. An incoming mod will usually request a specific forum(s), and then the rest of the admins/mods will decide whether or not to assign the new mod to the requested forum, or suggest another forum more suitable. Sometimes, although rare, mods will request to be moved from one forum to another. There’s also Lynn Bodoni, who is moderator-at-large and doesn’t mod any specific forum.
Luckily for me, I requested GQ and got GQ.
That’s ADMINISTRATOR-at-large, thank you. And I’m in charge of biting anyone who needs it.
Seriously, xash is correct, except about my title. We do try to match the staff with the right forum for their personalities. For instance, I’d be a poor match for MPSIMS or GD, though I was able to tolerate the Pit, which many people would prefer not to moderate.
Don’t forget, too, that we rely on members to report problematic posts. Problematic posts include duplicate threads, posts in the wrong threads, and things like that as well as the more obvious spam posts. To report a post, click on the little red triangle on the upper right side of the post.
I’m disappointed. I thought by “Mod Assignments” we were going to be able to send Mods on Fight Club-style missions.
Shh. Don’t Forget Rule Number One of Mod Fight Club!
I thought it was that we were going to get to send them on assignments.
Secret missions, maybe.
Secret Undercover Mission to places far and exotic.
Of course, should they get caught we will disavow any knowledge of them or their whereabouts.
