Moderaters and Administrators

I have had a question (or two) since I started logging on to this MB, but was afraid to ask as it would reveal my stupidity. :0 Moderators and adminstrators. Moderators (or is that moderaters?) apparently work out of their own computers. How do they moderate? Do all posts come through them before the rest of us, or do they just audit them after they have appeared? Administrators (or is that administraters?), I don’t know where the heck they work from, their own computers, or are they physically located at the Reader (or is that Reador? ). Apparently they don’t audit any post, but if a problem arises they hop to it. Would somebody take the time to explain the scenario to an ignorant poster (or is that postor :D)?

Moderators work from their own computers. The only different to you and I is that they have a different kind of user account here which grants them more options – such as moving threads, deleting and editing posts and so on. I would guess that the administrators also use their own computers, but have even more access rights, but don’t quote me on that one.

Typically with vBulletin Boards, the Admins have access to the main control panel, which lets them do everything from ban people to change the colors of the Board, to adding and deleting Forums. Sometimes, “Administrator” is just a title change, and they person really only has Moderator powers - it depends on the Board policy.

The understanding I have is that all the administrators here actually have administrator powers, even if C K Dexter Haven has probably never even figuered out how to ban someone. All the administrators (including a couple Chicago Reader staff) have been administrators since before we switched to vBulletin, when the titles were more rigid. Cecil Adams used to be an administrator, but was upgraded to “Perfect Master”.

The only people to access the board from the Reader offices are probably Ed Zotti and jdavis. The other administrators work from home. The vBulletin webpage (you get one guess as to the URL) explains such things as the administrative control panel in greater detail.

Why would “ANYONE” cause a problem for CKDex? He be one of the coolest of the cool. Him and Tomndeb are the utmost gentlemen. :: sheesh :: on anyone who even thinks of messing with them. <-- da old man

Well, we were playing a game of poker, and he lost big time… and now he owes me $15,000.

(Sorry… I just saw half of Rounders today)
