Moderation gone mad: Miller

Arguing about what? And, no, I’m not playing stupid. I’d be happy not to argue in here at all any more. But, when you throw out a drive by “evidence suggests otherwise”, that’s just roundabout way of saying “you’re lying.” Of course I’m going to defend against that.

Oh, for crying out loud. Are you seriously suggesting that you have not, in this thread, been arguing that you didn’t deserve a warning?

Have a nice life.

I fully agree with this. There was simply no reason to believe that comment was wishing violence or death on Snowboarder Bo.

Yes, I don’t think I deserved the warning, and the note was debatable. But, with my facetious tone in the Pit and in the beginning of this thread, do you really think it mattered to me all that much? I’m done with you. I don’t suffer people like you.

You have a nice life, too (and, that’s every bit as facetious as yours was).

As far as tone deaf goes … I do not read Tibby asking for the warning to be rescinded so much as mocking its silliness and how way off-base it was. He has no reason, IMHO, to be contrite and no reason to be afraid of the consequences of one warning over many years.

Mocking something that you believe to be stupid is not trolling and as a long standing member I do not believe it is appropriate for a moderator to call any poster a troll unless they are in the Pit and not wearing their moderator hat. Or as part of explaining why they were banned.

Is it someone not “respecting your authoritah!” Yes. But dang, if you cannot take being mocked a little maybe you should be hanging up the plastic badge and turning in your coffee mug.

Stand by your (I believe mistaken) decision all you want. It was your place to make the call and I accept that I will not always agree with moderation and will once in a blue mood, like this time, think a moderation call is way out of line. But calling a poster a troll on the basis of very limited experience and mainly because he mocked you instead of acting contrite? That is both thin-skinned and way out of line.

Now say you are sorry and go to room right after dinner without dessert. And think about it young man!

Thanks, once again, DSeid.

I don’t know if moderators reverse warnings often or not. I figure they can if they want. Despite Frank’s accusation of me “playing stupid”, I’m smart enough to realize that, if I had any chance at all of getting the warning rescinded, it would not be by being flippant; it would be by being apologetic. I’m savvy enough to play the get-out-of-jail game if I want. But, I refuse to apologize for something I didn’t do.

I didn’t threaten Bo. I made a joke, a joke that obviously went over like a led balloon, but a joke nonetheless. DSeid’s Person B did not register in my mind as a stand-in for Bo when I made the joke. If you think about it from a comedic logic standpoint, it’s illogical—I’d just previously joked about being a convert to Bo-ism. Lopping off the head of someone I just stated was a person who I, all of a sudden, converted to just isn’t funny—it’s not even cartoon logical.

I didn’t see anything in any of Tibby’s posts that I felt was mocking me personally. If he was trying to mock this particular warning, well, I don’t think he communicated that very well. His attitude came off to me as contemptuous of the general concept of warnings. And based just on comments in this thread, I don’t appear to be alone in thinking that his performance here didn’t put him in a very positive light.

As far as the respecting authority thing. It’s not so much about being personally disrespected, as it is that people who don’t appear to give a shit about the rules mean more work for me later down the line, and I am a stupendously lazy man. If someone gets a warning, and their reaction is to make dick jokes, I end up thinking,“This is almost certainly something that’s going to happen again.” If their reaction is anywhere from a sincere (or reasonable facsimile) apology to “That warning is bullshit!” then at least I have some level of confidence that I won’t be having the exact same interaction with that poster in a month or two. If the poster doesn’t seem to care that he got a warning, why should I care to take it back?

All that being said, Tibby’s reaction to being called a troll is actually pretty heartening, and goes a long way to lending credence to his overall sincerity. He does appear to genuinely care about his reputation here, at least in some respects. If he’d shown that sort of reaction to the initial warning, this thread would have been two pages shorter. I don’t think Tibby is a troll, or a liar. Or particularly funny, but that’s not against the rules.

I’ll rescind the warning.

Thank you, Miller. Your saying you don’t think I’m a liar or a troll means the most to me. Your rescinding the warning, I consider a bonus.

You not considering me particularly funny remains a sore spot, but my humor will grow on you in time.

Honestly much more than I expected or had any right to expect.

Impressive it is!

Wow, I didn’t expect that to happen, either. Thank you, Miller.

Thank you, Miller, for expressing your reasoning and for rescinding the warning.

Let’s all go to the quarry and hug it out down there!

[Linda Belcher] Ahhhhhh, I loves you Bruh. {{{{HUGZ}}}} [/Linda Belcher]

As I have always suspected, a fellow bro. Good on ya bruh.

Well, he does have a pretty sweet ass.

Annnnd with that I’m closing this thread.

Or at least I am.
