Moderator Warnings -- why no email?

Yes, because out of those thousands, only a very small number is going to bother e-mailing us to see if they’ve had a warning.

Damn you, Amok, to the fiery bowls of heck! I wanted to be the first to say it.

of course, only a few even get the warnings in the first place, meaning for each warning = one email by one mod, but for the rest “very small number” x “several mods” x how often each of that very small number gets obsessive/compulsive about it (not that anyone here exhibits obsessive/compulsive behavior of course. Not that there’s anything wrong with obsessive/compulsive behavior).

Well, thanks for that. To be fair, this isn’t the first time that my sarcasm has fallen flat and I am sure that it wont be the last.

wring, you believe that sending an e-mail with each warning would be less work. I think waiting for people to ask me if they’ve missed a warning will be less work.
My past experience so far has proved me right.

I nominate wring to serve as Special Minister of Information. He can be the one to send out the “You’ve been warned” e-mails. Since it’s not that much work, apparently, maybe he’d be willing to do it for 75% of what a full fledged mod pulls down.

And a free coffee mug.

of course before, folks didn’t necessarily know that there was a list, ya know?

And, of course my point isn’t necessarily just ‘less work’, but to insure that the poster has seen the warning, a valid concern IMHO.

Anyhow. I think it’s a good suggestion. PTB don’t, for reasons that make sense to them. ::shrug::
now, does this go in my permanent record?
(smiley added for humor impaired. not that there’s anything wrong w/being humor impaired, of course.)

You know, the thing I don’t get is some people’s hang up about how we should be treated differently as paying customers than as free-loaders. (See BinaryDrone’s post #79 and assorted other posts by assorted posters in all too many threads fussing over moderator actions).

I see this as being kind of like the free outdoor theater in the park which I attended recently. One can pay for reserved seating in advance, or one can show up with your blanket or chair and find a space in the grass ampitheater. Depending on your willingness to show up early, and your luck in selecting space unclaimed by obnoxious others, you can get a good seat for free. The Reserved seating is closer to the stage, does not require showing up significantly before showtime, does not require bringing one’s own chair, is more handicapped accessible, is guarenteed not to have the light post that was in my vision in it (the light post is located behind the reserved seating area. It is a large pole- given that it must support several lights, including the spotlight, and the spotlight operator).

On the other hand, the amount of money paid by the people in the Reserved seats is not sufficient to fund the production. And, all of us got to see the same show, the same thank yous to the sponsors, the same songs and dances, the same “What do we need . . . We need your DOUGH” spiel sung at intermission about why you should donate money to help fund next year’s performances.

Likewise, the essential balance of what you contribute to this message board and what you get from it is not altered by the requirement that one must pay to be a member. You still have to consider whether you are willing to put up with the moderation which goes on*. You have to realize that what some people consider obnoxious behavior is not what others do. On the whole, I think this board is likely to continue to thrive as long as it has a sufficient quantity of self-proclaimed experts on just about every subject under the sun. What is the critical mass of people who make interesting or informative posts neccessary to keep the other people posting? Haven’t the foggiest, but I bet it’s a lot smaller than the number of people currently willing to pay to be a part of the community.
Umm, I’m not sure what my point was anymore, but I’ve spent long enough typing this that I’m going to post it anyway.

*One could not pay me enough to be a moderator. It seems to me that in general almost any moderator intervention is met with complaint from someone. And, on those rare occassions when it is clear to everyone that moderator action should be taken- the complaint becomes that the moerators didn’t act fast enough to suit someone.

Casey - FTR, wring gender = female. not that it really makes a difference, just don’t want to foster incorrect concepts.

Sorry about that. Mistress of Information sounds more powerful anyway. And just a little bit sexy, too.

[del]Yes[/del]. No.

Does this mean she only gets 3/4 length jackboots? There is a joke about a cattle prod, but I will refrain.

Forget the coffee mug – offer her casual Friday’s at Casey1505’s workplace and you’d probably have a deal.

Maybe it was just Amok’s time.

Mistress of Information Hmmmm. with 3/4 length jack boots, veal prod *, and SD coffee mug. Hmmmmm. Wonder how it will go w/my current title of “Chair of the Liberal but not a fucking Lunatic Society”.

(*get it? 3/4 length cow= veal… okay, so it was funnier in my head)

Is this the same “permanat record” that we had in school? Cause if the Mods have access to that…

Perhaps I should say my good-byes now.

For me a lot of it comes from the fact that in the past one of the prime rebuttals to any complaint was that the place was free. It is my perception that the attitude that we are all being done a favor still has some holdouts and that it is not really appropriate.

Sorry, sir! Please don’t warn me.

What if you get chastised rather than warned? Is there a record of chastisements? How many chastisements equal one warning?

I would rather be warned. I was chastised soon after birth, and I couldn’t walk for nearly a year.
