Modern Family 1/23 - Simply brilliant

I didn’t see this one going anywhere, until the ending. I’m impressed.

The Godfather reference was BRILLIANT!

Easily the best episode ever in my opinion.

“I’m Phil.”

Jay: What’s one more son in a dress?

Gloria’s sister with the laundry basket: Where’s the river?

I loved that the M-I-L’s wedding present was the family gun.

“Don’t ever ask me about my business, Claire.”

“I just want…”

“Don’t ever ask me about my business, Claire.”

“But…”

“Don’t ever aske me about my business!”

“I won’t.”

“Good.”

Luke appears and closes the door in Claire’s face.

EPIC.

F. U. Pritchett…

Do all the women in the village hang their clothes in here?

Even better- a Christening present. Nothing says welcome to the faith like firearms!

There were a lot of good lines, like most episodes, but the Godfather riff was fantastic. They had to break character for Phil, but it was worth it.

“I don’t think I knew what happiness was until I was 60.”
“Thanks Dad.”

Oh, definitely worth it! Hilarious!

“Before we dunk the kid, do you mind if I make a few casual remarks?”
“I think you already did.”

My only problem was the “St. Olaf Syndrome” with Gloria’s sister: she’s obviously been to the U.S. before so she would know L.A. (or wherever the show is set) isn’t a village (plus Colombia has plenty of metropolitan areas), and judging from what has been said about their family I’m sure laundromats are common even if they don’t have in-house washer and dryers so she wouldn’t really be expecting to take laundry to a river. That said, it was funny, just not believable.

Manny’s been pretty dull of late, but I loved the look he threw at Jay when he offered to send him down to visit Pilar whenever she gets lonely.

I agree about that. It was hard to believe that she was that clueless.

But the homage to The Godfather made up for that.

Quick question. I didn’t understan this line. :S

“Jay: What’s one more son in a dress?”

His eldest son, Mitchell, is gay. Further, Jay and the father of Mitchell’s partner both share some concern about which role each of the partners plays.

The line was of course delivered when Gloria’s mother held up Fulgencio’s christening dress.

Either Jay is being stereotypical about his gay son, or Mitchell literally wore dresses as a kid. Either way, it’s a gay son joke.

Thank you so much!
