Modern Family - season 3, ep 24 - Call Me Baby - May 23, 2012

I’m surprised no one started this thread yet.

What did you guys think of the season finale?

I thought this was the best episode of the entire series.

I thought it was a great episode, but my TiVo said it was called Baby On Board, which made sense given that Gloria was pregnant at the end.
Oh, that reminds me, I really like the “Drive straight”/“Are my pinkies up again” joke.

Luke’s run-through of the hidden mail was priceless, tying back to previous eps, e.g., Claire’s gun-range invoice, burning stuff down at the dude ranch, etc…

I agree…one of the best in the whole series.

I love that Dylan is back because he is just all kinda of hilarious, and I assumed that the “big announcement” was going to be one that we “didn’t expect”.

I wonder if Sofia (insert last name here) is pregnant in real life and they decided to put that into the storyline because of that.

I actually wondered if Haley (Sarah Hyland) was pregnant… her cheeks sure seemed “cheekier” on this episode… Googled her and found out she has a renal disease and recently received a transplant (likely months after the episode was shot) which may explain her looking a bit bloated…

I loved Jay dancing with Lily. Too cute!

“Let’s take one more, with flash.”

One of the funniest moments in the entire series for me was last night, when Gloria mentioned that Cam and Mitchell’s new baby was Mexican and Manny looked up at Jay and said “how’s that giant wall working out for you?”

And maybe I missed something, but was there a reason the scene at the hospital came off as telenovela? I wasn’t paying close attention at the time, but it struck me as odd.

There were a few references to Mexican soap operas earlier in the show.

Previously, in the car, Cam and Gloria were talking about a telenovela they both watch (and which Mitchell was making fun of), setting up the hospital scenes.

Ah, got it. Thanks.

Fire and Ice, the Mexican soap, has come up a handful of times throughout the season (seasons?). Gloria watches it, Jay has slowly become interested in it and as much as he doesn’t want to admit it, he’s hooked and Cam likes it and is honing it Spanish skills by watching it. It’s just sort of a long running gag.

It would have been even funnier if they started messing with the lighting at the hospital or switched to whatever style of camera they use on soaps to make it look like one as well.

Loved the telenovela scene at the hospital. I was wondering if Cam and Mitchell would notice it but then they appeared to be in it.

I wasn’t a huge fan of this episode. The telenova parallel was just too contrived and took me right out of that part.

Loved the old mail scene.

Jay and a pregnant Gloria…egads.

I loved it and I teared up a bit at the end when Mitchell had his breakdown. I think one of the funniest parts (and I found there to be several in this ep) was the commercial break when the hospital had turned into a telenova and Mitchell and Cam gave the dramatic look up and right with Joey Tribiani’s “smell the fart” acting.

And Luke… what can you say about that little nut? Hiding all that mail “and the ticket from when Manny and I stole… nevermind” Love him!

I was a little deflated when Gloria said she was pregnant. I like her with Jay and Manny and I don’t see adding a baby to that mix because it flows so well. I guess we’ll see…

Plus Jay accidentally revealing that he watched it to; trying to play it off that it was just Gloria that watched it.

Am I the only person alive who thought that the actress who played the sister of the birth mother was much more attractive than Sophia Vergara is?
Sophia Vergara is the most overhyped celebrity “Sex Symbol” since Angelina Jolie.

I see writing and think I understand each word, but together, they make no sense to me.

YM clearly V’s, but surely you can’t argue that it is easy to see why other folks might disagree with your POV. She is very pretty, very curvy in a very nicely proportioned way, and has a nice, reasonably smart self-confidence. As an embodiment of the “bombshell” stereotype - Latin or no - she presents herself pretty well…again, YMMV, but it is not hard to see.

You are right, I certainly “Get It” (Sophia Vergara IS attractive, no doubt about it) and the odd thing is that normally I am always more drawn to brunettes than blondes, but for some reason I think Julie Bowen (Claire Dunphy) is much, MUCH more attractive than Sophia is, even though 99 times out of 100 I would normally go for the woman with dark hair and olive complexion.

I guess I don’t understand the level of hype SV gets, when there are many, many more attractive Latin actresses around (Penelope Cruz, Salma Hayek, Eva Longoria) who don’t seem to capture the public’s attention like she does.

I should add that from the little I know, the women I mentioned, (Cruz, Hayek, Longoria) all seem pretty full of themselves, while apparently Sophia Vergara is supposedly down-to-Earth and not stuck up with her newfound fame.

I felt the same. It usually reeks of desperation when they bring a new baby into a sitcom, but maybe the MF writers can buck the trend.

Oh, and a ‘seconded’ to, “Now one with flash.” I couldn’t stop laughing.
