Modern success stories: How did you meet your SO?

Met my hubby of five years over the phone.

I was his Insurance agent (living in TN - he was in AZ)

We worked, we flirted, we talked, he got my number at home…we talked (ALOT) he visited, I moved, we married. viola’

At work.

Luckily we work for a big enough corporation and our departments really don’t interact much at all, so we’re able to keep work and play quite separate.

Met mine in Japanese class, at a University, back in Fall of '99.

Still going strong, despite me having to move out of state. :frowning:

<< Don’t believe everything you think. >>

My wife and I met in school.

I was her teacher.
[sub]Relax, she hired me as a private tutor, no grades or power-relations involved (she’s not even younger than me). She claims she wasn’t looking for a boyfriend when she hired me, but I wonder sometimes.[/sub]

Met when we were both working the registration table at a sci-fi convention. Met in March '02, he moved in with me in April '02, got engaged May '02, we got married in June '03.

ChiDope, 2001.

At church, in school. That is, we were at university, and met at our church congregation. He kept walking me home. We got married about a year later. It’s been nearly 8 years.

Met mine on this board. Best thing that ever happened to me :D.

And since I haven’t postd very regularly for while, I should say that it’s Anthracite, and I love her very much :).

College. Junior year.

I was living with my previous girlfriend, and a friend brought a friend over to dinner.

I kissed her goodnight with tongue, and she thought it was just the way I treated all friends of friends. Two nights later I danced with her at a party and went up to her room for a drink and some other stuff.

A month later we were an Item. The next year we were Living Together. Eight years later, we got married.

'nother Dopefest here. January '01, NYC.

I used to talk to women on ICQ at random. I would enter a first name in the search engine and get fifty responses that were online at the time. I decided one evening to enter her first name. I said hello, she said hello back. The e-mails began a couple of weeks later and the phone calls a month after that. Seven months later, I traveled 1500 miles to pick her up. That was almost four years ago and we’ve been together ever since. We got married in October of 2001 and we have two small children. Life is good.

Online has it’s risks, but it’s like fishing. Every once in a while, what’s on the end of the line isn’t what you want or expect…so throw the line back in and try again.

My (then) teenage son kept insisting that I meet one of his teachers. I wasn’t interested. Finally he kept at it, making suggestions to first one party and then the other, until the whole thing got embarrassing.
Even though he was doing well in classes, I arranged to meet her at his school one afternoon at a teacher/parent session, just to shut him up. I intended to apologize to the lady for the boy’s foolishness.

We’ll be married 18 years next month.

Yes, ever since then, there has been a limit to how much trouble that boy can get into with his dad.

Wow you all give me tremendous hope. A friend and I currently both believe we’ll end up as that crazy lady on the corner with 30 cats.

I love that some of you met your SO’s at Dopefests…is this all really just a guise for a dating service?

We went to school together.

[Simpsons]
Lisa: They call her the cat lady, people say she’s crazy just because she has a few-dozen cats. But can anyone who loves animals that much really be crazy? (lady gets out of house, sees Lisa, and starts throwing cats at her, and chasing her)
[/Simpsons]

I strolled into her art gallery, looking for some paintings to buy. I bought a few and one thing led to the other…

My ex-best friend (now back to best friend status) called me up one day. We hung out, and she invited me to a LARP (live action roleplaying game). I went. My fiance was the ST. It was love at first chop.

College.

Shakespeare class.

Married ten years now.

I met my SO of over three years at a friend’s party.

Online.

Honestly, I was trolling for sex. Hot, kinky man-sex. I’d given up on the idea that I’d ever meet anyone with whom I’d spend my life, and I was settling into a routine of friends, gainful employment, and (really, seriously rare) occasional meaningless sex.

I should mention that I don’t do the chatroom thing well. I tend to find it funny. And there was this one guy who started laughing along with me, and mocking too. And we wandered off into a private chat, and had a good time talking. So we set up a date the next night.

We’ve been together since. And hopefully, ever after.
