Both were using an M21, one of them was firing the weapon at a far faster rate than the weapon otherwise allows. Even with a macro or something to speed up fire. It was firing like a full auto weapon.
I think there may have been an aimbot, but I wouldn’t swear 100% to this.
Finally, and what made both so obvious was they were both using some sort of radar hack. So they had the weapon pointed at you when there was no possible way he could know you were there. Watching Killcam, you’d see him slew the gun around to point directly at you, before you were even visible, so the second you appeared from behind the cover, bam. And this happened a couple of times at a distance where he could not have heard you. [EDIT - And just to clarify he did not have the heartbeat sensor attachment]
In one instance he nailed me from half the map away, with no line of sight, and no other way to know I was there. He just happened to line up on an unremarkable patch of wall and fire two rounds, both of which hit and killed me.
I changed the fire key from left mouse button to left shift. This is very helpful with weapons like FAL or M16 because bashing the left mouse button affects the aim.
Now I don’t have a run button but I don’t use it much anyways, maybe I’ll use Caps lock as run.
My story is the same as yours. I’d only dabbled in multi-player for the first month or so but pretty much gave up from frustration (at myself).
Yesterday, I said “screw-it” and went all in for some grief. Sure I lost a lot, but I actually enjoyed myself and was satisfied when I was able to get a modest kill-streak. I focused on a few particular weapons to build some stats and unlockables on them. I think I’m level 12 now.
I’ll send you a friend request tonight (mske10). We can pick on each other.
The PS3 seems to be the platform to play this game on if you’re not very good. Of the videos that I’ve seen online and people are playing on the PS3, the people they’re playing against are playing like damn idiots. I’ve also heard a few accounts of anecdotal data saying as much, too.
So, in closing, you’ve got a better environment in which to not get squished all the time.
At first whenever the game picked me as a host I would dominate everybody. I would have zero lag and people would be dead before they even noticed. But lately it seems that whenever I am the host, I get the worst lag of all. I guess the game is intentionally adding some lag so there is no host advantage to balance things out. In face-to-face shootouts there’s no way to win because the other guy has started firing 0.2 seconds earlier. When shooting from a long distance at a moving guy the lag ensures that no bullets will hit. The only kills I manage are to players who are at point blank distance and unaware of my presence.
I had heard the same thing about the XBox 360 crowd. It is probably just a way that 360 people to talk bad about PS3 and vise versa.
I have gone and made an Anti Air-Support class.
Aug H-bar w/grip
Stinger
Slight of Hand
Cold-blooded
Steady Aim
and whatever equipment you prefer.
If you get killed by air support switch to this class, take it out, and it is decent enough to keep you killing until you can switch back to another class. Once I unlock it I think I’ll change SoH to One Man Army so I can switch back at my leisure.
Ok. I need help. I’m sure this is going to come across akin to “how do I tie my shoes”, but I’m really struggling to come up with a procedure, if you will, to actually fucking kill someone.
It never fails, I sneak around a corner and see an enemy coming my way, so I aim as best I can and start firing. It seems like I hit him a few times, but nothing happens. I always get shot once and die. Or, like last night, the guy just walks up and stabs me.
I need to know what the hell I’m doing wrong. Is there a trick to quick aiming? Do you always try to keep your barrel at a certain level or something? Do you try to aim more for an area under the name tag? Do you do the aim down the barrel and try to quickly adjust? Shooting from the hip seems futile to me. Seriously, if someone can throw me a few tips or something, I’d be grateful.
Last night wasn’t even fun … but then I was trying to play with mske, while trying to join in with my daughter at the same time. It was like a monkey fucking a football. I guess I’m not a multi-tasker.
A couple of things to think of. First, you should probably try aiming higher if you can - headshots are ideal of course, but you can also “aim up to them” by starting at the upper chest cavity and let the recoil move your sight up to the head. Shooting from the hip is not something that I can do, so I am always aiming down the sight. Second, if your opponent is moving and you aren’t you are going to have a tougher time killing him/her. You have to adjust your aim - he doesn’t. So keep moving once you get around that corner instead of stopping. If he is close, don’t bother trying to shoot, just melee instead and cut that SOB down.
Of course, you’ve seen me play now. So take my advice with an unhealthy amount of salt.
I would say aim low to begin with. The recoil will bring the gun up. Fire in bursts rather than emptying a clip as your aim will go off quickly due to recoil.
Run - Stop - Aim - Hopefully Kill - repeat.
Stay on the sides of maps, try to avoid the centre.
Play objective game types as deathmatches are getting harder and harder due to people using lots of Kill streaks.
Turn on Slight of Hand, makes aiming easier.
Stopping power - Kills them quicker
and whatever makes your from the hip more accurate.
People are more focused on the goal in objective game so they can be easier to kill so you can get your eye in better.
Domination is a good one. A team should try to hold two of the three areas and they score points while they are holding them.
Deathmatches have lots of really good players on them just looking to get nukes etc. so you can end up just spawning and dying all the time.
I’m level 62 now and i think i’ve played about 10 deatmatch games so it may be just me but i get way more enjoyment from Headquarters and domination. Each to his own and all that but if you’re looking to get your eye in or quickly go up a few ranks to open up some weapons/perks I’d go with objective games.
Yeah, I thought about that after I had logged off. Steady Aim is pretty useless once you have the grip unlocked for any given LMG too. I should change that to commando or ninja.
If you’re getting in hits before they shoot you, consider trying out the Hardcore matches. On those, if you hit someone at close range, they’re pretty much going down regardless. Keep in mind, though, that even though they’re easier to kill - so are you! People tend to be a lot more careful in Hardcore. Not as much running and gunning, not as much risk, more snipers. I like it because I can actually use silenced weapons and get kills. In the normal matches it seems like you have to hit someone 20 times with a silenced weapon before they go down.
Always losing on face-to-face shootouts and/or having to shoot a million bullets to kill someone while you drop dead with just a couple of shots are indications of a laggy connection.
You can’t win at face-to-face battles because the other guy has already seen you and started firing half a second earlier. You need a million bullets to kill somebody because due to lag the guy is not where you are firing, he has moved. Sometimes firing ahead of the other guy (at the point you expect him to be 0.5 sec later) as he runs works, but it is hard to do.
Since you can’t choose servers in MW2, the only way to ensure a better connection is to choose a game mode that has more players connected (you can see that when you hover the mouse pointer over the game mode) so there are more chances you will end up playing with local players.
Here in Greece the game becomes unplayable after midnight. There are very few local players so I get connected at hosts from Bulgaria, Italy, etc. with huge lag and I always get pwned.
