Modern Warfare 2

I’m playing on PS3. I’m not sure if there are the same server problems there, but I’ll be sure to look at the connection.

The chances are that he’s onto something. You might not have a bad connection to the host, but you might not be getting the best, either. That could result in what you’re experiencing.

Where do you live? What times do you play? What’s your personal Internet connection like?

Having host isn’t the be all and end all of Internet console play, though. I rarely get host, but I think I almost always get a good connection to the host.

Watch the deathcams. Lst few days its seems like I’ll hit a guy four, five times and then have him one shot me. When I watch the deathcam, I only fired twice and maybe caught him with one bullet. Or a guy will start firing at me, and I’ll jump behind cover and still get killed. I figure the guy hit me through the wall, but when I watch the killcam, he finishes me before I even get to cover. I’m not that good to begin with, and when you add in the latency issues it’s really frustrating.

Is anyone else getting disconnected after every single match?

No, but it can be hard to start a party up. On what platform are you playing?

A couple of youtube videos I uploaded today…

The first one, I caught some strange goings-on in a 3rd person cage match…

Second, just a normal cage match game (not cameraphone this one) …

Happened tonight and last night. Steam itself went offline both times. Last night (thursday) was scheduled maintenance. Not sure what tonight’s was.

And on a similar note, it was chucking me out of partys after every game for one day (about a week ago)

There’s somebody in the gift shop!

That was pretty funny. Was that you?

Nope, just thought it was amusing. For some reason, when he yells “There’s someone in the gift shop!” I die laughing.

Does anyone in this thread record their games?

Last night I decided to record all my games. Last night was my worst night of MW2 gaming ever. Worse than when I first installed the game. I became a complete noob. I was losing every 1-1 match. I normally win those (legitimately. I play higher ranked players. I don’t quit if I’m losing. I don’t employ dirty tactics. I only camp ‘strategically’. In other words I’ll stop at a corner, look around a bit, and move on)

I was coming last or second to last in FFA games (I came 3rd in one, but it was full of actual noobs and one or two good players)

I have several theories…

Recording software has negative effect on input reaction times (people were knifing me quicker than I could knife them - usually the reverse is the case)

I was tired and full of a cold (I doubt this as I’m nearly always playing after work, so nearly always tired)

I was affected by performance anxiety (I think I’m one of those people who performs worse when being observed, or, in this case, recorded)

Or a combination of all three.

Do any other match recorders identify with this?

The original game had a recording feature that saved all the data about where everyone was and who was moving and shooting where, etc. So you could record a game, go through with fraps later and view things from any angle you wanted to… you wouldn’t actually have to impair/limit your experience by recording it live. With the second one, the function may still be there, but since they disabled the console you can’t activate it.

… one of the many ways the sequel is inferior to the original.

I was using gamecam. Assuming that Fraps would still be able to record what I see (despite as you say the functionality of recording the information about where everything is being disabled in this game) do you know if fraps is better or worse than gamecam?

You or anyone else?

Can’t say, I’ve never used gamecam.

I’ve used both. Fraps is way better in terms of speed and impact. Quality is more or less the same.

MW2 supports demo recording if you hack it enable the console.

Probably number 3. Record more games, post them up so we can see, and eventually, it shouldn’t be an issue.

I have to say that I’m getting pretty sick of this care package glitch. I’m running into it in probably one of every three rounds I play and it’s gotten very old. When’s the patch coming out?

It’s supposedly in Microsoft certification. Of course, with Infinity Ward’s track record, the patch will almost certainly break something else.

I’ve just tried both and Fraps seems to have a much bigger performance decrease when recording. It is noticeable whereas in gamecam it is not noticable.

Maybe I’m doing something wrong in fraps? (trial version. Not going to pay unless it proves to be better than gamecam - which I have already paid for) I have the video set to half size (seems to be no more customizable size than ‘full’ or ‘half’)

ETA: I am impressed with the fact that fraps can record your windows desktop activity. And does it well too.
