Taking your complaints in order:

  1. We don’t immediately slam shut Pit threads the second there are a few light-hearted posts. Once it’s been a day or two without any more substantive discussion on the topic, we’ll usually close it, if it hasn’t died off on its own already. But it’s far more irritating for people when a thread is closed too quickly than when it is left open a little too long.

  2. What’s wrong with a mini-rants thread?

  3. That thread was indeed not appropriate for the Pit. It had also just been started and I hadn’t noticed it yet. Feel free to use the Report This Post button to call such threads to our attention in the future.

And, just out of curiosity, why do you have such a bug up your ass about what threads are in the Pit anyway?

I do remember something like that, it was a parody of a particularly stupid rant but the mods stepped in a shut it down as they felt (correctly) that a problem with the Ops thread, could well have been handled in the thread.

It was not easy, but here is the one I was thinking of Tell me Starving Artist wouldn’t be a burglar. Apparently I was wrong, though and it was allowed to stay. We both posted to it, I note.

For the record, I posted that thread to the BBQ Pit because it was a followup to a thread posted in the Pit last December that went on for nine pages and 300 posts. I thought it would be better to start a new thread than to resurrect a huge zombie thread, and I figured the people who posted in the original thread, and who might be interested in the happy ending, would be more likely to see it in the BBQ Pit than if I posted it elsewhere.

However, at Giraffe’s suggestion, I have reposted it in MPSIMS.

Taking your points in order

1)It’s a bit more than a few light-hearted posts, before you close obvious joke fests. There was a recent one that was closed after only 7, or was it 9, pages, where the members were OPENLY BAITING the moderators to close it. Post-padding, including Charter Members who literally typed “post padding post padding post padding” as their post. I agree with that thread closing, but why weren’t the most aggrieous offenders at least warned?

2)It is my firm belief that anyone who has to couch their rant in terms of “mini” or “lame” or “weak”, should realize that it doesn’t belong in the Pit at all, and post accordingly, in MPSIMS, or not at all.

Most of the other good threads lately seem to have turned against the OP or someone who comes in and makes a huge ass out of themselves. Looks like Carol is painting a big ol target on herself for this one.

I didn’t catch that it was a follow-up to a previous Pit thread. I appreciate your not bumping the old one – that was exactly the right thing to do. If this comes up again, mention (and link to) the previous thread and we’ll (in all probability) let it stay.

Cool :cool: I happened to spot the latest news story on a local radio station’s Web site, and remembered the original story had been discussed at length here, so I figured an update was called for. (I also looked around to make sure somebody else hadn’t already posted the same thing.)
