Could I please get a Mod to edit my posts? I’d like it if you could make me sound smarter. And perhaps you could give my posts a nice air of detached indifference.
And taller. Make me sound taller.

Bandwidth is used whenever data is transfered to or from the server. That includes both editing posts and opening threads. If the extra data from an edit is 5K and a correction is 100 bytes, then you would need more than 50 views of the correction to offset the edit. Remember also that the notification of the edit itself (as in Lasted edited by so-and-so on 04-16-2003 at 10:07AM) consumes bandwidth as well as server resources in the form of a data hit to retrieve the notification.
Little known fact about Decartes’ “Discourse on Method:” It originally opened with, ‘I mod, therefore I edit.’
It was edited out. There’s still a few bootleg copies of the original floating around, though. It’s true.

:smack: But I did the size right. “Lasted” wtf does that mean? Yeesh.

I can edit any post I want!
As long as it’s here.

I think you have a valid argument Stypticus but alas , you were brushed off like a bad case of dandruff. You loose…I mean lose.
Further, I don’t see the point of having the editing feature turned off. It gives the OP the abilty to go back and correct a spelling error making the post more legible to all who read it.
I know the worry is that they will go back and change the entire post but if the OP wrote anything controversial in his post I’m sure someone would have quoted the original scribblings anyway in a response and his nefarious deed will be revealed to all.
If he doesn’t get caught, so what? Besides, his post will show that it has been edited.
Thats just my opinion, I could be wrong. But c’mon, it’s just an edit button.
Maybe the mods need to edit their posts more often than we do. Lots of spelling errors, mistaken notions, unsubstantiated claims, name-calling, general abuse, blood-letting, occult curses…
They have to cover their uhm…er…tracks someway!
How’s something like this, Ice Wolf?
[sub](edited to remove the line Fuck you and the pig you rode in here on. How much time you think I got to waste on typing in horseshit explanations and trying to get the coding correct and making sure I didn’t make ANOTHER spelling error, just to assauge your delicate little feelings? I’m going to jump all over Rooves’ post here:
and excitedly squeal that I must have a point, because someone else agreed with me! We can form a minority group and demand our rights and–
Actually, I just want to get the thread back on track. Much as I appreciate the editing jokes and the “mods are gods” worship posts, I’m more interested in the mods’ input. I hold by my statements and will clarify:
I think it would be a courtesy for mods not to edit their posts for minor errors such as spelling, grammar, and coding, instead going through the same corrective procedure as the rest of us.
Incidentally, a bad case of dandruff is awful hard to just brush off.
And coldfire, stop trying to steal the Pit Points. I specifically pitted “mods” in general (you read that right), using you as an example mainly because I happened to have your edited post at hand for quoting. I even reiterated that it was a general pitting in a future post. I recall seeing at least two other mods do the same thing, but I didn’t think I’d need to save a list of post references. And don’t think I’ll pit you for stealing Pit Points, either; I’m wise to your game.
Actually I’m not. Are we keeping score here? Is the winner the high scorer or the low?
I don’t know how they do it but I know for a fact that at least one and maybe several mods can edit their posts with their hands inside their pants. Quite a sight too.
These freakin’ wonderful mods can have a bite of food with me anytime.

Just be sure to call me again if you need your post edited the day before you actually post it.
Hah! Now, if you ever try to edit anything in your post, spelling, grammar, whatever, then this post will stand forever as irrefutable evidence that your unedited post declared your Nazi allegiances. You will never win an argument in the Pit again!
(Does anybody ever win an argument in the Pit?)
I agree. I fully support the ban on post editing. But if the rest of us have to live with ‘loosing’ something in the translation, then the Mods should too, imo.
“Same corrective procedure”? I was under the impression that the basic procedure was to e-mail/beg a mod to edit your post for you.
So you’re asking that instead of editing their own posts, mods should e-mail each other, and let a different mod edit their posts?
