Mods, feel free to move this bla, bla, bla...

I see this phrase a lot. Don’t mods already have the license to move threads? Why does the OP give permission to move threads?
If it is something that the OP has to mention, can we come up with an acronym? Maybe something like, Momifini. An acronym for “Mods, move it if you feel it needs it”.
What do you folks think? Any ideas for another acronym?

Sounds like a solution looking for a problem to me. Yes, mods can and do move threads as they deem appropriate, regardless of an OP granting “permission”, but it’s not like tacking that little phrase on to a post hurts anything.

I think posters say that so they wont look stupid for putting it in the wrong place. I see no need to acronym-ize it.

Since the overwhelming majority of OPs fall in the “hey, mods, move this if you think it belongs elsewhere” category, I don’t think it needs to be said.

Now an acronym for “Dear mods, I really strongly firmly believe that my thread belongs right where I put it and I’m going to throw a conniption fit if you even think about moving it” might be useful

I take it as just a matter of being polite. It’s an acknowledgement that the poster wasn’t really sure where to put the thread, and being apologetic in advance in case it does need to be moved.

flees

Or more precisely, I suspect, it’s a matter of pre-emptive guilt denial, or ego protection.

Acronym we need: MBMIIBY.

Mods, Ban me if I bother you.

I had never thought of that. And, I am sure there are polite dopers.

LOL. That was funny!

Mods, Only Tamper Heavily in the Event of a Really Foul but Unknowing Complete Kneejerk Error Respose = M.O.T.H.E.R.F.U.C.K.E.R.

This was not necessary. And even a little mean.

You shouldn’t treat your fellow Dopers like this and I you owe Oakminster an apology.

What’s wrong with DMIRSFBTMTBRWIPIAIGTTACFIYETAMI?

(Pronounced “dmirsfbtmtbrwipiaigttacfiyetami”.)

Quite funny though.

MMMTIN

Mods Move My Thread if Necessary

Pronounced “mmmmmmmm - tin”

Can someone let me in on what this is about? By PM if necessary?

This thread feels awfully familiar - like we’ve had this exact conversation before, including the suggestion for an acronym. Not that I can find it with a search, either on the board software or via google. My search-fu is weak.

Here’s one that links to a suggestion of an acronym, TSOPDA, or The Standard OP Disclaimers Apply.

Thanks for the link.

(Excuse me if this thread has appeared before.)

…or else he’ll start a thread about it.

How many times do I have to say “be nice to one another, dammit?”

If you have a problem with somebody take it to the Pit, do not air out your grievances here.

There are no more little warnings left in this thread. Be mindful of that.
